Whats up with Sona?

I was away from league for a couple of months and came back about a month ago. And im seriously shocked by how scary Sona sudenly became while I was away. I played against a few Sonas, but only now after the DJ Sona skin release is that i'm seeing a lot of them around, and what happens every game is: Sona goes full ap, rush lich bane and pratically one shots carries with her Q passive proc. Its insane O_O

Is she even suposed to be a support anymore? No other support can "poke" like that, I think riot has to take a look at her Q damage.

Sona got both her damage and utility nerfed to the point that in order to have team impact outside her Ult she NEEDS to build at least Lich Bane and one more AP item. Lich Bane allows her to provide somewhat steady dps in a fight that she otherwise doesn't have. Without Lich Bane, Sona is a liability to the team in lieu of pretty much any other character that has a more than single target stun.

The synergy between Powerchord, Lichbane, and Hymn of Valor has always been around. People just didn't build Lich Bane as much because Sona was relevant with aura items and such while relying on her decent base damage. That decent base damage is gone now, she needs that leg up.

And for Supports that can "poke" like that... Zyra, Morgana, Nami if she takes Lich Bane (She heals herself too!), LULU...

She's only gotten nerfs.

And yes, she's still a support; Mid Sona is feasible but Viktor is basically a better AP Sona since their Q's are similar.

She has received multiple small nerfs, and no buffs as far as I'm aware. She's just naturally a strong early poke support.

If they nerf her Q's damage and the damage she gets from her Passive, they will ruin her poke. The problem is that a full AP Sona gets so much with Lich Bane, but it will hurt Sonas that don't go it.

That's basically what's already happened; that's why you see Lichbane in the top of Sona's purchases (lolking, champion.gg)

She's been shoehorned into taking it.
