Why playing ARAM cannot level up champions

Why playing ARAM cannot level up champions. It seems not fair for those ARAM players. And now the new chests function is relying on the champions grade, so that means ARAM player cannot get any chests.

Last I heard, it sounds like their main focus has been getting Mastery up and running on the upcoming featured game rotation queue for when it launches. After that's out, they'll probably start looking at TT and ARAM to add mastery to those, too.

It should definitely be different than mastery on Summoners Rift. Playing a champ well in ARAM is not the same as playing them well in the intended game mode. Maybe these thoughts are why it's been taking a while.

I really don't think it's unfair at all or should be changed. It should be incentive for people to learn League of Legends as it was created to be played rather than this mini game mode.

It'll most definitely be a completely new scale specific to the mode. If they used the same scale, they could just about flip a switch (or copy/paste existing code, perhaps with a small bit of integration) and enable mastery on these other maps. But then it wouldn't be very meaningful at all. Grading performance on HA or TT using an SR-based scale wouldn't make sense. So yeah, it'll definitely take more time to implement as they adapt it.

Relevant Riot post that discussed it is here: http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/gameplay-balance/qTePvlpc-i-really-wish-aram-would-get-at-least-05-of-attention-sr-gets?comment=00280001

I have the completely opposite viewpoint: all maps/modes should definitely share the same Mastery score. Specific (grading) algorithms should naturally differ, but the end result should be cumulative across all maps/modes.

  1. Having different Mastery scores on each map/mode would quickly make the interface bloated. There's currently three permanent maps, and the rotating mode queue will certainly contain at least two modes. That would already be five different Mastery scores to display, and half of them would be time-gated because of the rotating mode queue.
  2. Champ Mastery doesn't actually reflect personal mastery (i.e. skill) with a champion. There's no way to lose Mastery levels, and both Bronze and Challenger players have the same opportunity to earn Mastery. Someone could do horribly every game and learn nothing, yet still have high Mastery from purely grinding games. The only thing Mastery represents is how much time someone's spent playing a particular champion.
