Lag For Everyone Happening a lot recently

So I have been noticing that during several of my recent ranked games, there has been massive server lag for everyone for at least a couple of minutes. This has been happening a lot recently and I would appreciate it if someone would tell me if this is a short term thing or what the issue actually is. I have lost a lot of lp from this happening and for some reason still get a Defeat even though this lag affected the game A LOT.
