Why do people play _____? (Apart from being good at playing them, of course)

Obviously, for certain people there are certain champions in League whose designs and personalities are as dull as a bag of rocks. There's just nothing remotely unique or interesting about them to make you want to pick them up. For me, the champion that fits this most is Fiora . She's a girl with a sword. That's it. That's her entire deal. Yeah, she likes honor. So does every other champion of Demacia, that's just par for the course. Oh, she's rich, but her family fortunes were slightly disturbed at one point, that is not even remotely close to being on the same level as escaping from a gladiatorial arena with the help of a king who you then befriend and serve as an advisor toXinZhao JarvanIV . And where another Demacian heroine Lux manipulates light itself to blast enemies away and shield her allies, Fiora just has a sword. And the sword itself isn't even anything special. Like, how did she past the drawing board? Who looked at this champ and said "That is just as valid a character in our game as a floating tentacle eyeball that vaporizes living creatures as part of it's learning process." Velkoz ? I don't get it, not at all.

Now that I'm done with my rant, what champion bores YOU out of your skull? (Please keep it to just one champion, or give shorter explanations if you can't hold back from naming more. I will not harass anyone for naming a champ that I find interesting, I will only give a short counter argument and leave it at that if that's what you want.)

No powers. Rich. Still has a mass fanbase.

So... Essentially, Fiora is the Batman of League of Legends.

Funnily enough I find J4 and especially Xin Zhao extremely boring in character and concept. Fiora is objectively a much more nuanced character than either (not that that's saying much) going by her background, if not her current voice work.

Yes, she just has a sword. She is a woman that fights a giant, floating, tentacle, eyeball, squid monster from beyond space and time that vaporizes living creatures as part of it's learning process and kills it with just a regular sword!!! That's badass!

I do want to say something, as someone who has studied character and story design, it's all about perspective. Fiora doesn't seem special, which then makes characters like the Eight Foot Tall Titan Sion more in perspective of his strength. It makes Vel'Koz seem more odd. Making J4's ability to crack the earth seem even more spectacular.

Fiora and some others are the basis of "these people are amazing! Look at them then just look at Fiora!"

But then you realize, Fiora has worked her way into the same ranks as them, is killing them.

She isn't particularly amazing, but then you see her in action.

She weaves her blade beautifully, stabbing and dancing around her opponent's weakpoints, measuring them up and analyzing them in seconds. She strikes your front, then your back in the blink of an eye. She's one step ahead. She's destroying you in every angle. You fight back, you swing at her but she avoids it. You try again. Fiora pulls herself back, placing her sword between your weapon and her, displacing your weapon. Fiora has one the fight, and you didn't think anything of her to begin with. She has outdone you, outsmarted you, and never let her guard down.

None of them. Champions are just tools for winning games, I don't find any of them inherently interesting or notably boring.

Edit: Apparently this post is offensive to some people. Sorry folks, I just don't feel the way you do about champions.

Malphite Just is so mind numbing to play for me. Ult into the enemy team to initiate a fight, slam the ground, be a damage sponge the rest of the fight basically. Maybe peel for the back lines if they need it, or harass their carries. Rinse and repeat in about a minute. Plus, he's suppose to be be some giant mountain or something, but he look's so small compared to others.

Everyone from the Shuriman Empire who is not named Xerath, Renekton, Nasus, or Azir. So people like Skarner, Amumu, Sivir, Rammus, Cassio, and other assholes I forgot with basically no lore and usually just a lot of BS about not knowing anything about them.

"Skarner is a dude who guards a thing and kills people who come near. Why does he guard a thing? What is the thing? Why are you asking so many questions?" -Literally Skarner's lore.

I used to play Fiora.

But then I took a rework to the knee.

I love to play LeeSin because he has fun combos and can make some cool plays. He allows you to be creative, and I rarely get bored of him.

For some odd reason, After playing one game of Riven I just don't want to play her again for weeks, IDK if its just her repetitive kit or what but even if I do exceptionally well she bores the crap out of me after a single game. Same goes for Zed

I think Cassiopeia is equally boring for me. Her lore is as shallow as the splash garden, and her abilities are equally dumb. Most of all her visual effects just are super stupid. Hey I'm a snake. I'm going to poison you and bite you. Oh you expected that? Ok cool. Btw I'm a snake. Her ultimate is slightly more exciting but the turning people to stone thing is a bit overdone. All that said, I love to player her because people have no idea how to lane against her and generally I can faceroll on her.

People only care about taking shortcuts to climb, 1% champ thematic/lore and maybe 5% playstyle.

If people truly cared then there would be Lulu/Nami support mains. Both have a pretty decent thematic and really fun playstyle. /opinion

Why do people play _____? Well in your case of Fiora it's probably because she's a super strong pick atm

Most people don't care about lore or thematics and just want what will get them that shiny Diamond border or sparkly victorious skin the fastest
