Is intentionally banning an allies hover pick reportable?

If not, why isn't it? Here's an excerpt straight out of the Summoner's Code:

Enjoy Yourself, but not at Anyone Else's Expense

"Short is the joy that guilty pleasure brings." -Euripides

Making games is our business, so it should come as no surprise that we want you to have a lot of fun. We want you to get excited, to have tension-filled moments, and to celebrate your success. This doesn't mean that we're okay with you ruining anybody else's day.

Remember, taking a jab at your friend in the middle of the game is a lot different than making a glib remark at a complete stranger. Someone who is unfamiliar with what you consider playful may take your comment as an attack and react unfavorably. If two players on a team start fighting, good communication and teamwork become nearly impossible. Once communication breaks down, the likelihood of victory is drastically diminished. It isn't uncommon for simple, good natured teasing to spiral out of control into a loss, so do yourself a favor and don't run the risk of sabotaging your own success.

Support Your Team

"[Teamwork] is the fuel that allows common people to attain uncommon results." -Andrew Carnegie

While we all carry a diverse set of individual ambitions and expectations into a game of League of Legends, once we hit the Field we're a part of a team. For better or worse, our fates are intertwined with that of our teammates. Once the game gets into full swing, you have to make a choice between being a positive force for your team, or contributing to your own demise.

Being a good team player begins at champion select. Be open minded when considering the needs of your team. If you're the last one to pick, try to fill a niche in your team that hasn't already been filled. If everyone's picked and something stands out as a deficiency in your team composition, try asking for another player to fill the gap, or change roles to embrace that responsibility yourself. Remember, that by taking on a role you don't normally play, you'll learn more about unfamiliar champions and increase your own skill level.

Once you get in game, try to keep an open line of communication. Warn your teammates if someone is missing from your lane, or if something is placing them in immediate danger. If they're not paying attention to chat you can always try pinging the map. Just remember that one ping is enough! Also, remember that you have to be there to contribute, so don't leave the game or go AFK! Encourage players who are having trouble, and congratulate those who are playing well. And most of all, if you're having a bad game don't take it out on your team!

It, quite unfortunately, it is not. However, I am personally of the opinion that it should be.

It should not because everyone is entitled to not seeing a champion in a game. Whether you don’t like how that champion synergizes wth your own team or don’t want to run the risk of the enemy getting it, hovering a champion shouldn’t be a contract. If everyone is hovering AD, I know mid lane is optimal for magic damage so I’m going to ban out our team’s Zed or a Talon because I know a 4-5 AD team is destined for failure in most scenarios. If Tristana is horribly broken and our 4th pick ADC wants trist, I’m sorry but I can’t run the risk of letting the enemy pick her. If we need a tank and no one is hovering one, I’m banning out our top lane’s Teemo.

Most “malicious” bans aren’t malicious in intent, they’re done out of logical reason. It’s rare that you get into a game and some guy plays eenie meenie minie moe to decide which teammate’s pick gets to be banned because lol troll. Whilst I don’t agree with that thought process, due to the reasons mentioned above, you can’t restrict it.

And I’ll admit, I’ve had games where a single champion was played seemingly over and over and did poorly over and over. So I saw someone, again, hovered it and decided I’m not risking it again. Nothing against the player at all, it’s the champion. (Main offender is Kha’Zix).

It’s frustrating when it happens, but you’re over dramatizing how much of a calamity it is when it happens. There are 120+ other champions to choose from. Yeah you really wanted to play one, but it’s not like your entire day was ruined because you couldn’t and if it was, you’re probably not mature enough to play the game. We can’t always get what we want. I main zed personally. As you can imagine, I’m used to not playing Zed because he’s been consistently high on the ban list for a couple years now. I can attest that even though I play this hated champion, I’ve only been target banned by my own team maybe .5% of my games. What I’m saying Is that it’s an extreme rarity. I’m sure our experiences aren’t matching, but I can’t imagine you’re having a much worse time if I’m playing an infamously hated champion. Just play something else. You’ll get your pick another game. It’s not worth getting angry over, and especially not worth calling for penalties and making posts over.

This might honestly be one of the worst reasons I have seen someone state they used a ban. Within ones right of the ban system, but still picking on one position for not playing tank when there are other positions that can pick up a tank.

Guess it just goes to show it is easier for some to try and force it instead of communicating with teammates.

It's because there are traditional roles all lanes go. There's a reason you don't take Ornn bot lane and just "Let other positions pick up a marksman." Top lane tends to be tanks, junglers tend to either be tanks or carries, mid lane tends to be mages or assassins, bot lane is almost exclusively marksmen and support.

Sure, if I see support hover Leona, jungle hover Zac, and top hover Teemo, power to Teemo. But when I see the jungler wanting to play Khazix, support wants to Janna, mid wants to Orianna, bot wants to Sivir and top wants to Teemo, I can recognize there is a problem and honestly there isn't much time to discuss what the best options are. So, I naturally want to ban Teemo because traditionally, top is tanky.

Same concept if top wants Sion, mid wants Zed, jungle wants khazix, bot wants Jhin, support wants Pyke/really anything because at this point it doesn't matter. We have 4 AD. I'm going to naturally ban either Zed or kha zix, most likely Zed since traditionally mid is where AP flourishes and there's more of a chance he'll pick something AP than the jungler will.

And yes, it is easier to force it. The banning phase is small, not everyone is paying attention, some people choose not to type. I'll simply ban Teemo, and it's in his full right to pick something like Kennan or something else non-tank. But, that much is out of my control. I did my part and tried to prevent a problematic team comp. From my experience, people tend to shift to something smarter because they understand they were target banned because their pick didn't work. Sometimes I get spited and they pick something equally bad or even worse for trolls, but if they want to take the path of immaturity that's their deal. My choice was made off of educated reasoning and in no way directed at the player, just at the team comp.

You absolutely can. The correctness of the theory is irrelevant. Their authority is what matters. And unless they're team captain of a premade team... they don't have any.

Except they do have authority. Everyone has the authority to ban one champion. No one has the right to contract a champion. So no, you can't penalize banning a teammate's champion because everyone has the full authority to not see any champion for any reason in any game.

Except they don't have the authority to choose their teammate's picks. Which is the literally stated intent behind the ban.

They'e not choosing their teammate's picks, the teammate is allowed to choose any available champion. He's not going "I want you to play Shen or I troll." It's a ban, and clearly Riot is for it.

That's not you deciding top should play a tank and trying to force them to? You can call it something else if you like, but you're trying to micromanage your teammate's picks, and that's not cool.

Nahui1 votes

That's me removing one option, but yes that's me trying to influence our team's picks. It's completely cool and Riot has deemed it as such.

Simple. If you aint first pick, I aint risking letting the enemy team getting it. That and some champs are on my perma ban list.

i ban yauso in 99% of games played. To many people don't have any idea of how to stop him.

It is not.

Addressing your reason: No, for the same reason it is not reportable that your teammate is picking Yasuo because....

"Enjoy Yourself, but not at Anyone Else's Expense"

'Short is the joy that...

etc. Standard response for the rest.

i bet 100$ this is about Pyke....well guess what if you're not FIRST pick, you're not going to get pyke, and in 2 weeks when he gets nerfed to shit, nobody will play him anyway

EvilxUndertonez1 votes

its pretty common for someone who got autofilled to ban your pick when u wont switch with them, or they ban someone elses pick hoping to force a dodge. It's not "eenie meenie minie moe"

HalcyonDweller2 votes

And that's why I don't show my pick intent.

Simple enough to just show it after the ban phase. Or just not show it until its time to pick.
