Played against d5 in clash with my team being mid silver - low gold

This was at 5/0 and the end of my teams clash tournament life. Just feels robbed. It isn't like this in ranked flex or solo-duo, think they might've just forgot about not letting big elo gaps queue together. Very depressing loss. I thought they were going to prevent smurfing for this event?

Well, if the b5(/b2/s4/s2) is found to be a smurf, they'll lose their rewards. In theory you'd stomp that player hard enough that the d5 is helpless to 1v9, so the rank gap isn't inherently an issue.

Looking up the account in question though, it does seem like a smurf account (or account sharing), so you can take some solace in the fact they won't benefit off of it.

Still technically beta, so time will tell if they're able to crack down harder so the smurfs are spotted even before the end of the tournament. Ideally they're able to go back and even tweak rewards so those who were beaten by smurf(s) get the next tier up rewards rather the smurf containing team loses all their rewards, although depending on when exactly rewards are given out that may not be viable.
