Is Viktor a support?

Viable supports are champions that can be useful without needing much gold. This generally comes in the form of having skills that offer some sort of utility like healing/cc/shields, although there are other forms of utility.

The majority of champions can at least do 'something' support-y with their kit, but champions whose abilities mostly revolve around damage tends to not be that strong compared to more traditional supports.

Supports are champions who have abilities that help their friendly attack damage carry succeed, and are able to be effective without having to rely on gold, since supports get less gold than other roles.

So let's run down Viktor's kit:

Passive: Lets him purchase an item that makes him and his abilities stronger, no benefit for allies beyond giving Viktor more damage to the lane.

Q: Damages the enemy, and gives Viktor a shield, while also speeding him up once upgraded. No benefit for ally beyond the damage it does to their enemy.

W: Zoning ability that slows, stuns, and displaces enemies without doing any damage. Useful for setting up kills for an ally.

E: Skill shot damage spell that also has a lot of wave clear, especially when augmented. Provides only damage for your adc, and the wave clear can actually annoyingly kill farm that they need.

R: Powerful AOE damage over time spell, provides no direct benefit to adc.

So kit-wise he doesn't really imply a support playstyle, but that's not necessarily a deal-breaker. After all, Brand is a viable support and is also relatively lacking in utility while providing mostly damage.

What makes Viktor a poor support is that he is very reliant on levels to take advantage of his scalings, which are very large IIRC.

supports offer utility. healing, shields, crowd control, etc.

viktor is not a support.

Supports have a kit that provides assistance to the adc, with either a shield. heal. or some hard crowd control (cc) like stuns, knock ups, snares, or soft cc like slows. Examples would be like alistar, taric, janna, braum, soraka, morgana.

And mostly this meta/season is about having a tank support, most likely alistar.
