voice chat implementation

can Riot perhaps implement voice chat like Csgo's? the game would be so much more fun that way not to mention easier communictaion with teamates instead of typing things out. also if everyone's worried about toxic people, players tend to be more toxic in chat rather than speaking directly towards someone so the game WILL at least have as much or most likely less people to be toxic in voice chat.

Oh yes soooo much fun to hear kids whine and yell the second one thing goes wrong.

then just mute them cucklord

I mean just look at ops name and tell me you want to be in a voice chat with him. Only people who are immature and rage easily have that kind of name.

....no? It's pretty much the exact opposite my man.

If voice chat were implemented, people would be more toxic there since it's nigh-impossible for a system to detect what someone is saying.

proof it will get worse? It has never been attempted so how do you know

proof it will get worse?

Because.. logic? Voice-based toxicity is virtually undetectable as it requires a manual review, something Riot can't keep up with as evidenced by the state of the game before the IFS.

People know they won't get punished for it, therefore they will abuse it.

You think the community is instantly going to change their ways because of voice chat being added? No, that won't happen.

OP cited CS:GO in their post which has plenty of flamers on it's voice chat. Then there's TF2, Battlefield, Overwatch, Call of Duty...

Video game communities abuse the hell out of voice chat because they almost never get punished. It's common sense.

Again logic are not facts. You are making a decision on feelings not facts. You can't prove the community will be more toxic with voice chat when we have never had it. It is widely agreed upon based on numerous surveys (proof) that we have the most toxic gaming community. Maybe voice chat will actually lessen the toxicity, which is why a lot of players at least want to try it added. I agree that they will have no way to monitor it but they also make a mute button to give you the same exact game you have now.

Again you can mute them and you have the same game you are currently playing.

Please explain to me why you think voice chat will put an end to toxicity.

It's logic and common sense. As much as you want to say that it's just my "feelings", it's not. If you give someone the ability to break the rules without punishment, they will abuse it.

That doesn't make any sense.

It's the same as me saying "Maybe if we remove all the laws from society, we won't have any murder/assault/theft!" A lack of rules means more people are going to break said rules. That's how people work.

I agree that they will have no way to monitor it but they also make a mute button to give you the same exact game you have now.

Oh good, so we give someone the ability to flame and rage all game... and remove their ability to be punished for it.

That will totally lessen toxicity.

I don't know if it will end it but hopefully will make toxicity more scarce, that is why I want to try it. If it doesn't work take it back out. You don't even want it added even though it might help.

The rest of your post is just garbage because if someone wants to flame or rage all game, you have the same ability to make your game better by muting them for voice and text. Its not riots job to insta-ban someone because they are raging at you in game. Mute them and move on.

Except the only problem is that with voice chat they wouldn't be held accountable for anything, which is specifically why I said "so we give someone the ability to flame and rage all game... and remove their ability to be punished for it."

I personally don't get tilted or upset by people, but I still want them to follow the rules, be held accountable, and be decent people.

Its not riots job to insta-ban someone because they are raging at you in game. Mute them and move on.

Uh, yes? It literally is their job to punish rulebreakers.

You are missing the base argument that you don't know till you try. We have no proof that it works or doesn't work. We have seen the results of not having it in for years. Has toxicity gone down with all of Riots bans? No. Do we know if they will implement a report function that will not allow you to use your mic if you are reported enough? No. Could there be another way to police it? Sure. You are shooting down something that could possibly enhance player experience without a chance because "logic and common sense"

Its like eating a new food for the first time. You are saying you don't like it before even giving it a taste.

look at every single online game with voice chat. "it's never been attempted" like what? what planet are you from that it's "never been attempted before"? you don't even have to worry just about toxic players, but also about people who have horrible mics, live in noisy areas/households, people who tend to play music while they play... at obnoxious volumes.

When has league ever had a built in voice chat for solo q? Never, each gaming community is different and you cannot say that the minecraft community is the same as the COD or the LOL. If you don't like it mute them and you have the same game you have right now.

"you cannot say the same for X" tell me why? give me a reason why league is going to be any different from any other game with voice chat? it's a team game? so are many of the games that have voice chat and voice chat doesn't help at all in those games. Implement something that most people will not get into which would make the entire aspect of "makes teamplay easier" be completely useless and pointless... cool I guess! the team with the less muted players wins!

why is a ferrari not the same as a honda? they both still are cars. You cannot compare apples to oranges just as you cannot compare one gaming community to another in terms of how they are going to use this feature.

so you cannot tell me any actual reason why league would be different from any other online game with voice chat? that is what you are telling me right now. When you decide to give me a reason you can come and reply to me ok?

I would start with the average age of players for league is mid 20's which does have some maturity in comparison to COD where it is still in the teens. Or do you want to go into the different genres of games and how their communities have evolved with voicechat?

Yeah. Since as we all know people in their 20s are mature people... you want to know something? Most "immature" people you see in literally every game are ADULTS and want to know something else? League is already toxic as hell. Literally every single game has the exact same issues with voice chat. It doesn't matter if It's a game targeted for kids or for adults. They all have the exact same issue. You thinking that league will somehow have none of these issues is literally just being plain delusional.

I never said it will erase toxicity but will it decrease it? Maybe. We have 0 data to analyze from this so no one can know. Worst case you just mute everyone and you have the same game as you do now.

"We have zero data" except you know the data of all the other games currently have. "Worst case just mute everyone and be in an even bigger disadvantage for doing so since now you cannot hear the calls of your teammates that more than likely won't even bother with pings anymore"

I love how you keep pretending that other games voice chat experience is somehow not relevant at all. How people behave won't really change, someone is a douchebag before they have zero reason to not be one afterwards. There is plenty of data everywhere. League isn't any different from any other game. There is zero reasoning as to why issues of one game isn't going to come up in here, specially when the issues are CONSISTENT across all games. You don't even have to be a "toxic" player for people to want to mute you. All you have to do is do what any normal person does, hell just based on where you live it could cause problems and that's not even mentioning the quality of the mic in question. Normal people are not streamers or super dedicated and just have a shitty built in mics that barely work. Some might not even have a mic at all severely hindering their chances of communicating with others.

"But chat is still there" and nobody will care about it since everyone's expectation is that you have to have a mic if you are actually taking the game "seriously". Voice chat won't really accomplish much that is positive but it will sure introduce a whole bunch of "baggage" that comes along with it.

You have illustrated your point.

Overwatch has voice. Most of the time its pretty quiet aside from calling out plays. Sometimes there are very talkative people and then the flamers. The flamers in voice are a pretty small percentage. I have seen people type out their flaming instead of just saying it when they are clearly in the voice.

Overwatch and League do not have the same communities.

Also, as someone who played Overwatch religiously for the first 4 seasons on PS4 and reached Diamond (+ the bottom of Masters) alongside my brother, I can definitely say that's a lie. We met an unbelievable amount of toxic players.

Every person's experience is different, but League is notorious for it's toxicity and adding voice chat would just make that problem more apparent.

Speeedy1 votes

as much as I think voice will be a good thing for this game, for some reason the community hates this idea and say it will only get worse when there is no proof since it was never attempted outside of 3rd party apps

I hate talking in voice and listening in voice. It makes me play much worse overall focusing on communication instead of the game. I also play league listening to music extremely loudly most of the time.

If league added voice I'd just go back to overwatch. The only reason I quit is there's a certain mmr you reach as a support main where not using voice is inting, and I dont enjoy inting or playing with voice so I quit.
