Recommended Ranked Prerequisite

Essentially, what do you guys think about players having to go though a series of rigorous training tests to earn the ability to play ranked? I mean every time they sit down at the computer if they are gone for a while, it forces them to do it before being able to queue up for ranked. That way people won't be able to use excuses like it's my first game of the day, I'm still learning, it's just silver ELO, etc. I think it will eliminate a lot of the low skill cap players in competitive and will make the games much more competitive and fun for dedicated players wanting a competitive experience.

See y'all on the rift!

No, but I do think everyone should start in Iron 1 with a 300% gain modifier, and 50% loss modifier that tapers off of both ends the closer someone gets to 50% win rate, eventually dropping to 0%.

I also think playing a champion in ranked should require Mastery level 1 for the first 100 games, and 2 after. It's not a lot, just enough to say you took the time to get a feel for the champion.

What do you guys think is wrong with my idea? It sounds fail-proof to me when I think about it.

People don't have the time for once. Those who are good will climb, those who are bad will drop. Also how are you going to introduce a "training" thing that is even effective? Also if I am a challenger player why would I care about "training"? It's literally another thing that really accomplishes nothing. Anything that a "training" thing could have told them, should already be ingrained in their minds from lvling. There is literally zero guarantee that people would even take it seriously and I am willing to bet most would find it obnoxious very fast.

There are several divisions for a reason. If you are bad at the game you will fall to iron or bronze and play with/against people with roughly similar skills.

Deterring people from playing ranked won't make games more competitive, it will just limit the player pool.

If you are gold 4 and everyone silver and below are discouraged from queuing up ranked, what do you think will happen? Gold 4 players will end up usually being the weakest players in each game and will be unable to win enough to stay gold and will eventually get demoted and will keep getting demoted. Eventually today's gold 4 will be tomorrow's iron 4 and everything is the same with less people.

Platinum is about the top 10% of the player pool. Removing people from the pool will not change that....it will just make it harder to climb.

There are only two ways to climb in ranks:

  1. Improve your play FASTER than the other players currently higher than you. Becoming better means nothing if everyone else is getting better at the same time.

  2. Add players to the pool that are worse than you. A pool of 1000 players has 100 plat+ players. A pool of 10000 has 1000 plat+ players? Your plan takes the weakest of the 10000 and removes them, leaving the better players to try to hang onto less high rank spots.

If you want to stop having weak players in your games, rank up. No matter what people think, you don't get into platinum without a certain level of skill.
