Is Gragas worth getting anymore

Korean Gangplank·9/5/2015, 2:24:45 PM·13 votes·1,974 views

So I've been thinking about getting Gragas for a while now (I love jungle and I love tanks) and just as I was gonna get him patch 5.17 comes out. So I watched 'Pant are dragons' 5.17 patch video and he said that Gragas wasn't good anymore but he didn't go into specifics. So i just want to hear over peoples opinions about Gragas and whether I should get him.

Unless you are high elo, whether a champion is good or not is irrelevant.

Get a champion if you like it rather if he is strong ot not, chances are on a couple of patches today strong will become weak again, but true skill with a champion that you enjoy playing won't change.

My personal opinion on the matter is no. Don't get me wrong though, he is a strong pick that is one of the best junglers at peeling late game while also having a very powerful early and even a powerful mid with his ultimate that allows for either picks or just to disrupt the enemy team during a fight. This makes him a great choice for the lCS, but not so much your average solo que player. Here's why:

Gragas is not an easy champion to play in the slightest, regardless of what others think. His ultimate is actually quite hard to use correctly especially if they have a form of mobility, which if you don't time or predict can end up helping the enemy team more than hurting them. Pretty much everything in his kit is actually a skill shot, although q and e are quite easy to land.

His damage falls off pretty hard late game, which makes you almost only useful for peeling or catching people out with your bodyslam and ultimate. After the recently nerf to his W (I think it was this patch, or last, or maybe it will be the next) his damage late game will be almost non-existent. There aren't many people you can duel as a Gragas, meaning you have to rely on your team to do that for you, following up while you peel for them.

Basically, riot has adamantly been nerfing Gragas because hes playing almost every game in the lcs and until people quit playing him entirely, that probably won't stop. This means that if you buy this champion, he'll probably end up being a weak pick in a couple of patches. This is just how Riot does things, nerf, nerf, nerf until they are so weak they aren't seeing play for awhile. On the opposite of the spectrum some champions are buffed in this way, which is even worse.

Don't get me wrong though, Gragas is a good champion, not bad at all, but you are taking a risk buying him. Any champion can work, but not every champion can work as well as the next. For example, adc Leblanc may work in a game, but that doesn't mean it's GOOD, compared to all the other real adcs.

He is a fun champ to play (imo) so if you buy him I don't think you can go wrong if you take the game as what it's supposed to be, unless your in the lcs, and that is to have fun.

He is still fine. You aren't going to struggle to be able to compete with him.

He is weaker than he was, he has been on a slow nerf slide since the release of Cinderhulk which had made him and Sejuani basically 100% ban.

You aren't going to be able to stroll through games anymore and he might even been on the weaker side of balanced, but he isn't useless. If you think you would like to play him, go for it.

Gragas is still strong... He still has good peels for the team, good damage, natural tankiness and sustain. Even if he -wasn't-, based on someone's opinion, that shouldn't stop you from playing that champion. Half of my top picks consist of champions considered 'weak,' but that doesn't stop me from playing them, enjoying them, and proving people wrong! :)

If you care about the effectiveness of the jungler you play, go with XinZhao who is significantly easier to play mechanically and numerically vastly superior such that even a meh Xin will beat a good Gragas most of the time.

He is still probably one of the best Cinderhulk jungler still after the nerfs.

EXO Sehun9/5/2015, 3:06:45 PM1 votes

To be honest, I wouldn't get him. There much better tanky junglers out there that can really snowball and win games. (maybe) Aatrox Vi XinZhao Warwick Volibear Udyr Skarner RekSai and etc.

best part about gragas... is you are always well fed

T RexHasTinyArms9/5/2015, 7:54:08 PM1 votes

Depends on what you like, and how comfortable you are with skill shots. His w was nerfed on the damage, so q max first gives him faster jungle clear now. Gragas main advantage over champs like amumu/malphite/nunu/sej/etc was that he could clear the jungle well AND make an early impact on the lanes. Cinderhulk jungles are often tanks that need a few ranks in abilities or often their ultimate before their ganking hits strong levels compared to runeglaive and warrior jungles who bring much more early damage, and often similar cc pre level 6 (Elise q vs amumu q is actually an advantage elise, but at level 6 amumu can gank bot and lock down both enemies at once and guarantee that skill shot cc will land to chain cc). Gragas however has body slam and the q slow, plus brings decent damage. Q takes charge time to get as much damage as w used to have at comparable ranks 2, 3, 4 if I remember numbers right and charging it makes it less likely to hit and get slow off. Leveling q to clear jg hits his early ganking a little bc it reduces damage, and so it puts him more on the level of other cinderhulk jungles in terms of pre 6 ganks.

Additionally if you've watched his previous jg run downs pants has said he doesn't like gragas much and mostly kept him on the list bc other high elo jungles liked him so much. Pants may be over valuing the nerf because gragas isn't something he liked to play anyway and so the nerf drops the champ for him, but others may still play him. Hell soultran is a streamer who plays sion mid mainly and was diamond level w/ it, so something not being particularly strong isn't a deterrent if you enjoy the champ and learn how to win with it. (For instance sion mid needs to roam a lot, get fed early, then force mid game team fights and objectives to snowball the whole team ahead and win, which is a different style to many mids since he tanks mid game and can dive much easier so his roams are more aggressive)

If you like him, yes.
