I don't yet really know wtf is going on. I'm watching videos, reading articles and searching forums, taking care that they are current. I'm getting there. The terminology is getting much better but when I'm in a tough spot I still panic. I still not fully familiar with the abilities and I just start panic pushing buttons. I lose where I am on the map (I'm colorblind). All this will take a little time. I'm really getting a handle on gameplay - map, roles, what role may be best in which lane. But I have some questions.

  1. What do I do when I've fallen behind and can't recover? Do I "try" to provide assistance, which results in a lot of feeding? Or do I just hide in the shadows out of the way? I've caught a lot of flack for feeding once my lane opponent(s) gain 2 lvls on me - and that happens often when I'm double teamed. It seems stupid to play a game running and hiding - no exp, no farm.

  2. What's the best option when an ally with a different range than me constantly farms within my range? Certain champs are better for certain roles/lanes - getting that much. When I'm playing a tank, I often end up with an unwanted mark farm blocking me when we (most of us) established our roles in setup, which puts me at question 1. The opposite often happens when I play mark. I'm not yet proficient enough to play jungle or support, so I just fall behind. It seems rude to change lanes after roles were established - then I'm doing to them what I'm trying to avoid.

  3. What do I go for at the beginning, farm or lvl? My opponent(s) always seem to go for me. Is that kind of a given to go for first kill? What do I do if I'm double teamed? My opponents can get 2 lvls on me quick with me just hanging at my tower. My start game is going VERY poorly except under the best of conditions. What's the best lvl1 to lvl3 strategy? Specifically for tanks and marks.

  4. What up with booting me out of a spectator game setup before I can even say "Hi"? I just want to ask a few questions, be friendly, maybe watch a pro match. Maybe even play. I try enter and game and KABLAM! Banned. WTF? Please explain. You don't get a chance to ask a lot of questions or chat a minute in game or during setup.

A little help would be awesome. I'm just trying get better. I've done a lot of noob searching, but I'm not finding everything I need.

THANKS!

I see that you mentioned you are colorblind. Step 1 is to make a custom game with just you to tweak with the settings. While making the custom game you might get a retrieving data message with a cancel button. Click that its a weird client issue I get but seems to do nothing.

Once in the actual; custom game (after you selected a champion) 1 ) Press ESC 2) click video 3) check the colorblind box.

That should help with making it easier for you to identify things. Also take this time to tweak around and experiment with other setting.

on to your actual questions.

  1. It really depends on who you are. However in most situations once you start to fall behind it is best to just try and farm as safely as you can but still being ready to help your team in fights if possible. Being able to read when and if you can help will just simply take a lot of practice.

  2. are you saying your support is farming as well? They really should not be although they may grab the occasional cs by trying to harass. That or they have a relic shield at which point they should only be taking cs when they have a glowing orb around them as this still gives you the marksman the full gold value as well.

3)again it all depends on you you are playing as and who your opponent is. And if in bot lane also who the supports are. Usually farming up is better but if an opportunity comes up to get a kill or bully your lane opponent out of lane take it. Just do not over engage.

4)I am not entirely sure what you mean here so I am unable to answer this.

edit: no idea why anyone would downvote a New player asking legitimate questions buI re-upvoted this for you. Hopefully more experienced players can answer your questions in more detail.

"What do I do when I've fallen behind and can't recover?"

If you are getting wrecked by your opposing laner, or getting camped by the jungle try to stay under tower and farm CS when the wave is there. When it is not you can try to roam back into your jungle to take a camp while you wait for the wave to come back, or roam to gank another lane if the opportunity for a gank is there.

"What's the best option when an ally with a different range than me constantly farms within my range?"

Do you mean Duo bot? If you are duo bot "support" you should not take any farm unless your ADC is not there, or you have a charge on your Relic (if you have one). If you ADC is not there and you are farming, try not to push the wave, only last hit.

"What do I go for at the beginning, farm or lvl?"

Farm==Level - If you are 2 levels behind you have not been in lane, have been killed more then once, or are farming very poorly. At first always focus on farming, last hit and only last hit, unless you want to push the wave. Once you learn how to last hit you can start to learn how to harass between CS.

"What up with booting me out of a spectator game setup before I can even say "Hi"?"

I can't really help you much there...

  1. name a champ then you'll get an answer to this
  2. it is rude, and they are rude, and there isn't much you can do about it. Just deal with it based on how you deal with number one.
  3. Again it depends on your champion and what your role is.
  4. don't know but you probably shouldn't be chatting with players while you have access to information on enemy teams anyways

Wow. All very helpful answers. A colorblind setting? Finally! This has plagued me since Atari. And I think I understand now why I'm getting booted all the time. All the answers were enlightening. Thanks, really.

Any further input is appreciated,

See ya on the battlefield! I won't be a noob for long.

For such a "simple" game premise there is really a lot of small details to grasp and many places to improve. It will likely take some time.

correct

Like in chess first most of what you will need to know is that some things exist, no need to memorize just learn what you can and use that however you best use it on whatever champ(s) you best use it on

Well, if your behind, try your hardest to get back into the game. You'd be surprised how things can change when your given some time to catch up. If you're in team fights and your behind, try to offer some long range support, but if you notice for a second that you're being targetted, back off. You can't do damage when you are dead. Farm from a Tower, you might lose more CS than you'd like to, but you'll at least stay safe while farming.

"What's the best option when an ally with a different range than me constantly farms within my range? Certain champs are better for certain roles/lanes - getting that much. If your the ADC, and your lane partner is taking CS from you without having a Relic Shield, then kindly ask them to stop. If they don't, report for griefing. But if you aren't the ADC, help your lane partner last hit. But it's usually a very very bad idea to have 2 marksmen in the same lane.

"What do I go for at the beginning, farm or lvl? My opponent(s) always seem to go for me. Is that kind of a given to go for first kill? What do I do if I'm double teamed? If possible, try going for both. If you can get the Level advantage over your opponent, all the better. Same with Gold and items. More stats = More damage you could be doing. For me, unless the support is going to engage, I will do nothing but farm. I'll poke a bit, but that's it.

I think you get banned from Spectator Mode for speaking in chat is because you could give out information to either team, therefore interferring in the match.

I hope these answers were helpful.

being far by a lot = you can not farm without risk of dying, you are being shoved into tower and subsequently dived.

if you are far by a lot, you must receive help from a different lane. You affect this by going to their lane and ganking their opponent.

do not force the gank on the other lane though. You come in, do your thing quickly and then leave quickly. no "waiting in the tri bush" and absolutely no delays and "waiting".

First, try changing your in-game settings (press escape in a game) and change your color blind settings.

  1. when you start to fall behind a little, hang back by turret and try to last hit minions. It's better than feeding, you'll still get gold/xp. And even though it seems boring, it's more than being dead and having your team have to worry about a fed opponent.
Make sure to always buy wards when the game starts (they're free), and put one in the bush in river close by your lane. When you see the enemy jungler heading towards you, run like hell to turret. Don't try to fight 2 v 1 as you will lose often.
  2. you're new, so you're probably playing with other new people who don't know what they're doing either. Usually it's one person top, so they get all that farm, one mid, one jungle, then 2 bot. On bot, only one person tries to get farm and the other buys a gold income item (the support).
  3. just play passively and try to last hit minions with basic attack. Save your abilities for when they come to hit you, and try to be in the middle of your minions so they take that extra damage from them (they do a lot, especially early). With farm, will come levels.
  4. I didn't know you could get kicked from spectating. Unless it was a custom game, in which they just didn't want you there. Could also be a connection error.
