Why did riot make Soraka a skill based champion?

I know she was reworked a LONG time ago, but im still wondering why they would turn an easy fun to play champ into a skill based champion?

The rework basically forced her into only being a support, making her w useless unless you're in lane with someone. The only time people play soraka anywhere other than support is if they build full ad and attack speed, which i find should be unnecessary for someone who claims to also be a mage, and even if you build full ap, youre still pretty useless.

I get she's one of the best healers in the game, but Riot really made her dependant on her carry, unless you build stuff that are completely off meta.

The old Soraka was able to heal herself in lane, which was good sustain, but had a higher cooldown which made her balanced, and her passive and Q were very usefull in lane to harrass and poke EASILY, without constantly being juked.

Also, soraka's old E made her one of the most unique champions, giving back mana to allied champs, or using it offensively to silence the target.

Personally, i really liked the old Soraka and I think Riot should consider bringing back her old perks

Her iconic skills W and R are still easy to use. She's still one of the easier champs and her Q is no longer a useless skill and her E doesn't give infinite mana to your ADC anymore which was very boring for the enemy. Atleast now your ADC can run out of mana (not health, as long as soraka lives).

the best healer in the game shouldn't be all point and click, she's still insanely easy to play regardless.

What makes her skill based? The only "hard" thing to do is land her Q. You can spam W, E has a large aoe that should read "Click on Zed, Riven, or Rengar." and probably one of the easiest to use ults in the game.

She is still easy as fk. Just not as easy as Thresh, Sona, BC.

Malfurion in HotS is almost identical to old Soraka.

  • Heal + small heal over time
  • Moonfire is instant damage, albeit ranged, but it cannot be avoided in any way.
  • Roots for CC
  • Ult is teamwide heal aura
  • "Passive" is actually an active and gives a teammate mana back.

It is kinda interesting that now the best way to heal is to go full hp regen raka unless the enemies are stupid and let you heal all of your hp with q.

So that it'll take some skill to play her.

Yes, she is dependent on her allies, as a true support should be.

It's still pretty easy if you can land your Qs.

Pants are Dragon is a challenger who plays her a ton, he described her as simple to play.
