What am I doing wrong?
TL;DR - I'm trying to figure out what it is I'm doing wrong in trying to climb out of Silver 5. So I vented all the information I can think of at 12:30 at night about how I play.
Well, it took about a month but I managed to get into Silver 5. Now it just seems I'm having troubles getting out of Silver. If I remember correctly, I got to s5 on January 29th and managed to get to s4 within 2 days. But then I dropped back into s5 and here I sit.
I guess I'm posting this on here because I'm having troubles climbing the ladder and I wouldn't mind receiving some advice.
First off, I won't say that I in any shape am the best player. Nor will I (attempt) to say that it is other person(s) fault.
I prefer to play in this order : ADC, Jungle, Top, Mid, Support ( nothing against supports )
Champs I play per lane: (Current meta with broken OP champs will be place marked with a *)
Please note: I'm following what's on LOLKing Ranked stats to help me remember and using as notes to write this.
ADC - Varus, Kalista, Kog Maw*, Twitch, Vayne, Jhin
Jungle - Trundle*?, Shen, Xin Zhao*, Jax*, Aatrox (aatrox has no place in this meta so you don't have to touch up on him)
Top - Shen, Fiora, Jax, Darius, Garen, Renekton
Mid - Anivia, Azir,
Support - Blitzcrank ( I don't play a lot of Support)
Marksman
Varus - I used to main top lane a lot until I had a bot lane that just fed like crazy. So I figured it was my time to go bot to try to see what it was I could do to make a difference. I started with Varus, whom I've enjoyed playing thoroughly for quite a while. Which is why I have the highest wins with him. I don't build how normal Varus players would based on where I stand and knowing full well that the team isn't cooperating as a full hand but individual fingers I need to focus on more than just one aspect of what an ADC is supposed to do (example: on Varus I like to build Runaans Hurricane followed by Rageblade for the AOE spread on split pushing).
Kalista - This can go for Kalista as well, however, with recent changes (or my just noticing this) when I hold shift + right click to 'orbwalk' it targets whatever is closest in 360 degree circle of my location. Which is annoying but, not much to do about it. Next, I try to build according to what I need in order to try to get further. Run's Hurricane is a must buy for me. Then BORK if need be, then whatever else
Kog Maw - Self explanatory I hope. Rageblade, then whatever else
Twitch - Self explanatory - whatever gives me good windup using Q + R combo to pop off true damage
Vayne, Jhin - (I'm not going to cover these two because if it comes down to it I panic choose Vayne then do really horrible or really well. Same applies to Jhin)
Jungle
Trundle - I didn't know if he is 'meta' right now. I just remember getting mauled by one horrendously so I instabought him and took him ranked first swing through (went 21/5/something).
I build him Devourer's, Titan's, Rageblade, Tank item, Tank item, Tank item.
Shen - Common build on Shen jg
Xin, Jax, Aatrox - basic auto attacker build
Top Lane
I don't think I'm going to cover this one too much based on it being the 'lonely lane'. I will say with Shen I try to have as much map awareness as I can to make sure that I as a player can help others. Win some, lose some.
Mid Lane
Azir - I liked Azir right off the bat when he came out. He was complex and I wanted to learn his mechanics. Some games good, some games bad. I think about me in the mid lane with Azir like trying to tighten a spring. So you take the spring in both hands holding one end in one, other end in other hand. and you just start trying to twist it to make it smaller, sooner or later the spring will seize in the middle and give out. That's what it's like for me.
Anivia - Anivia was a champion I picked up about.... 3 weeks ago. I saw a guy just wreck with Anivia going powerhouse build (ROA, Archangel's staff, Liandry's, etc)
I like Anivia and I can understand what makes her complicated. Her Q just seems stupid right off the bat in how you hit Q then you can hit Q to detonate it mid pathway. The wall is also a hard part about Anivia in which some people probably have troubles. I like her, I can wreck with her. Usually I try to play passive/poke lane and let the enemy make the first move or mistake and see what I can do with it. I can sustain mana well with her, and I can hit with my Q's fairly decently
Support
Blitzcrank - self explanatory. Flash burner alumni '08
Finally, I want to discuss the type of people I've dealt with recently. It would seem that we are all trying to climb. But there are people out there who consider ranked to be a joke and a place to troll. Next, there seems to be a common entity among people where 'I'm first, everyone else is second' except for the usual support. And it's just... frustrating in how I deal with some people. Sure there are good people, but my trust factor has slipped out the drain and out the window. I've finally looked at it as this: Just practice for dealing with angry customer's.
The next thing I want to ask is this: Why am I winning 17 - 18 LP but losing 20-21?
Finally, in closing thoughts, maybe I'm just not geared for this meta that is in the current state of League. I more or less wrote this to try to put thought to words instead of leaving things in my head and not solving anything. I wrote alot, I'm sure the formatting is off and my organization. Ah well.
I do rage, I get pissed off if I see something coming and can do nothing about it. Usually I try not to, I try to figure out my mistake within the death timer ratio and absolve and say "that's my last mistake this game" or "I know what I did wrong so I'm not going to do that again"
Maybe I'm playing too much ranked and treating this harder than what it is defined as: a game. Maybe I should quit with ranked for a while and just play normals, but the mindset I have is "If the work isn't done there is no point in stopping". That probably sets me on 'tilt'
Sometimes I go too ham as ADC to ensure a FB or my first kill and it usually costs me a Flash Heal and Death. I'm learning though.
If I have a good friend supporting me and we start getting the motions going, I can feel the mentality where me and my support are in charge of this lane and you are going to lose.
That's all I can think of for now, I'm sure I'll come up with more in the future.
If somehow you made it this far, I want to thank you for reading this and I hope you have good luck on the Rift.
