Tank Junglers.....A Thing of the Past?

I want to go on the record saying I love doing Tank Jungles and because of this (since I've been playing tank jungles since season 3) has caused me a lot of pain in ranked. Why you might ask. Well in the current area I am placed everyone is so eager for kills, trying to solo carry and giving up the moment something goes wrong it makes it almost impossible to climb. Not saying I'm a world class jungler. I make my mistakes and I learn but in the end it feels like tank junglers are starting to become a thing of the past. Replaced by the aggressive early gank and gank constantly type junglers. Are the tank junglers becoming a thing of the past? I would like to not think so but the evidence is all there. From building/reworking champs to be more efficient tank killers to the players not knowing how to be chill and hold lanes until the jungler can do something because a lane is out of control. Instead most players call "GG" before the tank jungler has 2 items. Don't know if this is just my opinion but in all honesty it's how I feel the game is evolving.

Quite literally only the only champion you've put on there is an actual jungler and that is sej who is actually in a good spot and is a S/A tier jungler.

Nunu is considered an S tier solo queue jungler as well, rammus was tearing it up for sure before the nerfs. In terms of solo queue tank junglers are super strong right now.

In pro play they prioritize early game hyper mobile champions to immediately snowball the game. Unfortunately if you're not winning the game for your team at the 5 minute mark you're actually inting as the jungler.

This is 2019. No more than 1 tank is allowed to be playable at a time.

No for real. It doesn’t matter how much they buff tanks. The rampant %anti tank crap that is already hyper efficient just makes them irrelevant no matter what.

It doesn’t matter how much armor you build, when someone has almost 10% of their damage ignore it, then ignores another 49% of it, it just will never compete.

In all honesty I agree and don't agree with you. The domain of the tanks has been taken over by the domain of the bruisers and the anti-tank. I do agree with that. Playing a tank jungle or support is very easily countered. However one of the other issues I have seen is that people don't know how to play along side a tank jungle or tank support. Have the patience to allow them to do their job and their role while still doing theirs. But I digress this is just my personal experience. Others may share this experience or disagree an that's ok.

a team with a tank is better than a team without a tank. They are not entirely gone. You can feel it when you got roll over by a team with a tank and your team have none.

The issues arise when bruisers have taken the tank slot because they all just do a tanks job 2-3x better than actual tanks do.

x2 more tanky than actual tanks, x10 more damage than actual tanks.

Tank mains won't be content until we're back to Season 5 HARD Tank Meta where each team has 2 Tanks minimum, both with Old-Style GA's making them stupid unkillable (the reason GA was reworked in the first place), and teamfights lasting anywhere from 1 - 3 minutes long each.

The buff to Cinderhulk tried to give a little back to tank jungles. However, I believe you’re right. Basically picking a tank jg, you kind of shoot yourself in the foot. It’s harder to deny scuttles from heavier damage types and it’s easier for you to get counter jungled. There are more options for damage than for tanks in the rune pages as well.

The Cinderhulk did give a little back... but Riot didnt like that so they got into nerfing jg tanks that they didnt consider skillful enough, like Amumu or Rammus.

Mechanics have been better than the Tank class for a while. By mechanics i mean things like, Jax evasion, Alpha Strike, and just hypermobility or damage immunity in general.

Tank jungler means relying on your team too much. That's not great for low elo soloq where you are looking to carry your games.

Just pick K6 or Heca and carry your self to a better place where tank junglers are viable because your team knows to play around them.

I did forget Heca when i listed the champs I like to jungle with. Never done J4 which I honestly want to try. But in ELO Hell it is so hard to get out with alot of the other tanky jungles. Granted my que partner hit Gold and i'm in Bronze so i'm having to soloQ right now. Thanks for the advice will deff try it out.

The thing of the past ????????? Nunu Sejuani Amumu Rammus . They are strong as hell right now.

Bruisers usually dominate the jungle role because they are very well rounded with some mobility. Tanks need to be broken to be more useful then bruisers in the jungle. So please lets not make jungle even more shitty to play by forcing tanks into the role. The only thing thats fun about jungle left is that u can outplay people to be relevant in the game.

Not to mention there is already a bunch of useful tank junglers. Rammus sej amumu nunu etc

I still enjoy playing Nautilus in the jungle from time to time, albeit I cannot help but feel just how much I sacrifice for playing a champion that I enjoy, over playign with the much more meta junglers that possibly do not sacrifice tanky-ness for mobility or clear speed. Sometimes it is super frustrating having to win against stronger junglers like Kayn or Graves, more so when you are utterly dependant on your team while doing objectives.

Checking op.gg right now...

  1. Rammus - Tank
  2. Elise - Assassin
  3. Karthus - Mage
  4. Evelynn - Assassin
  5. Sejuani - Tank

2 of the top 5 junglers are tanks, and none of them is a bruiser. While 4 of the remaining 5 of the top 10 are bruisers, the 11th champion is also a tank.

Three tanks in the top 11 slots seems pretty good.

Probably an unpopular opinion but tank junglers, especially some of those who have great ganks like Nunu are in a great spot for jungle right now imo. Scuttle changes mean junglers are usually level 3 when they fight in river for control of scuttle which allows the tanks to have all their cc abilities up and if you play right around your laners making sure they have priority then you can get scuttle and an easy kill if the enemy jungle tries to contest.

Also for soloQ many people will probably try to pick hard carries like MasterYi which you just inherently counter by stopping them carrying with a cc oriented champion. Then on top of this, tank items are generally cheaper than AD and AP items so even if you fall slightly behind in gold you will be on par with items.

On top of this it means you can give your laners kills for their more expensive items such as item 3031 for adcs and given how quickly games snowball, especially in lower elos, it means you can quickly put the game out of control. Also being a tank means that you are of course more tanky. This usually means that you can gank with a lower chance of accidently feeding and it means you can take more risky ganks. For example as a more squishy jungler like shaco I would never risk trying to kills something like an aatrox or darius unless it was extremely set up but as a tank oriented jungler I would gank that lane as long as they aren't fed as I can cc and absorb way more damage.

Just my general take on tank junglers right now and in general and as other people have said statistics from websites are indicating tank junglers are actually in a decent spot right now.

More like Tank Toplaners--aside from some lowkey patrician picks like J4/Voli/grasp-wu, a growing majoriry of them feel like McDonalds-tier trash. can't pick them blind or some goof is apt to counterpick you; can't overextend unless your jg helps, which means they can't help botlane, which is a pivotal component of this meta; probably can't CS reliably under turret either!!

Playing most tanks in the toplane is the gameplay-equivalent of swinging your arms in a windmill-fashion as fast as you can, while firing off two magnum pistols, and waiting to either get lucky and hit something or for your foot to get shot off.....it's a very frustrating and anxiety -inducing way to play top, and there are most always a better means to approach the situation, via a more competent toplane pick

Sejuani Amumu Rammus Nunu Warwick ?

The issue is tank junglers don't understand that tanks can gank as much as any other champion...you DO NOT perma farm to 2 items... the games where the above tanks carry are the games where they walk back and forth between bot and mid and gank 6 times in a row. Tank have cheaper items and don't rely on items for their kits to function. You dont need to be on par with the enemy in farm. People who realize this and use this advantage to gank over and over are the ones seeing success with tank jgs.
