Some Hard data on The Current BE System

So I recently got to level 40 and in this long process have recorded every single BE I have gained from capsule drops. I also took the liberty to calculate the IP you would have gotten as well as the win loss ratio, amount of games played and how many first wins of the day I got. These calculation were done from level 30 and up so these to not apply for the leveling from 1 to 30.

The IP calculator you see there is from the IP gains i personally got before the new system was implemented. These gains were taken from games i played in september to early october due to the fact of a bug that increased IP gains that occured in the patch before preseason which would have skrewed with the validity of the data.

Overall BE is slightly better than IP. The total per level is greater and at the end of 10 levels the total is vastly different from the IP you would have gained. In the end i had a total of ~10000 BE which was ~3000 greater than the IP i would have gotten. The per level gain was also higher than IP for me. For most of my data this holds true with BE either being slightly higher than the calculated IP values or having a huge difference on some rare occasions.

There was one level in which the calculated IP value was higher than the BE I got. This level had a total of 14 games played with a vast majority of it being loses. Although the difference was of only 10 I feel that there might be something worth to note here. Although this is just an idea I think that the longer you take to level up the more the IP system would have been better than the BE system. Now I'm still unsure if this can be proven or if this Is just an outlier so I plan do record my next 10 levels as well to see if I can find any raw data on this.

As my analysis comes to a close I would like to state that these are based off of my own games and experience. This data may not apply to everyone for some of you may play less or more than I do and the amount of time it takes you to get capsules can be greater or less than mine. However I think that a general thing to take away from my data and experience is that BE is in general slightly better than IP in the amount of currency you receive in the long run.

Hmm. I feel, personally, that the new system (regardless of the hard math output), is not as personally satisfying compared to the old system. Yes, the amount of BE you get in the end of your grind is higher, but along the way you're spending a lot of time looking at the exact same numbers. Perhaps it's just that grind itch i have where i prefer to see my numbers going up after every match, but the BE feels less consistent than the IP of old. You're getting more overall, but it comes in bursts of BE that may or may not be converted into currency right away instead of consistent, direct amounts of IP you can actually see increasing **after every single match.**Playing games to gain EXP is indirectly tied to increasing your BE, whereas IP was a direct result of your playing said game. The reward distribution is changed, some like it, others don't.

It seems to boil down to "Grind for an RNG Lootbox", or "Grind for Money Directly" (not counting RP). A lot of it comes down to presentation and mindset. And with the way lots of AAA games are using lootboxes and microtransactions, it can be offputting for a lot of players. It's gonna take time for the playerbase to break away from that and see the positives of BE and Honor/Level Capsules. I for one have a hard time with it still.

I originally felt this way at the start however after some time spent on the PBE and on live servers with this system I prefer it over the old one. You do make a good point though and I respect that.

Overall BE is marginally better than IP. The total per level is greater and at the end of 10 levels the total is vastly different from the IP you would have gained. In the end i had a total of ~10000 BE which was ~3000 greater than the IP i would have gotten. There was only one game in which IP was slightly better than BE and that was where i went on a huge loss streak making me take longer to level up. Overall you will normally be leveling up in 7 to 11 games and gaining an average of 810-900 with the occasional 1000 thrown in there and whatever milestone reward you obtain. Although you may not be getting a reward every game in the end you will be getting a hefty reward. All you have to do is be patient and wait for that level up.

I love your post until this part... I'd say that your post does a lot to prove that BE is quite a decent amount better than the old system.

Regardless of your choice of words, your post still proves that the math is simply on the side of the new system being better. Thanks for the hard data.

Note that OP plays a good 5-10 games per day on most days, averaging around 5 per day it looks like.

with losing the reroll for champs shards and mystery going to 3950 I've gained 1 champ in 3 lvls because i never have enough BE to doing anything without breaking 3-4 lvls worth down just to get 1 at lvl 5

3 levels would've gotten you about 2500 IP or so (give or take a couple hundred based on how actively you're playing).

Now, 3 levels gets you a guarantee of 2430 BE, with 50 more per FWOTD (so say another couple hundred if you get 3 FWOTD [1 per level]) plus the fact that champions that you get from shards can be purchased at a 20% discount, plus the XP gained from missions and any shards you get from honor capsules - and this is assuming you get the worst possible luck and never get higher value drops at level ups.

and a mystery champ is 3950 or was its not in store anymore and before it was 1700. You can not reroll a champ shard anymore and the only champs I still need are 6300 now so yeah its 8+ lvls for 1 champ with the new BE and change to hex crafting stuff

However the time it takes to get that 6300 champion should be the same or better than before. I recall normally spending a month of grinding to get 7300 ip to get a new champion when they came out. This all depends though on how much you play which in turn affect your level up speed.

but you could get 3 champ shards at 1700 a piece for 5100 and get a new champ. now its 6300. I'm 36 and i've gotten 1 champs close to getting a second 1 most likely lvl 38 Ill get my second champ

Yeah I have to agree with you on this part. Reading the section over a second time I could have worded it better however that was mainly my own opinion and interpretation. Either way I thank you for your criticism. At the moment I plan to rewrite it.

A fictitious calculation isn't hard data, it's a form of data manipulation.

If you had recorded the exact amount of IP, that would be Hard Data. The data you presented isn't in a format that suggests this.

You're also posing the information as per-level instead of a unit of time.

https://wol.gg/stats/na/rand0mh3r0x/

It has taken me two weeks to earn enough BE to purchase a champion. The time frame before was just one week. I haven't recorded IP gains, so I'll never know how my IP earn rate was before. I can at least vehemently oppose loot-box progression models, even if it gave me an slight edge.

Of course this is just an estimation and every one is different some things may vary but from my experience this was what I got.

I do have to disagree though that this is not a form of data manipulation. I recorded data as well as calculated data over a set period of time ie 1 level. If I changed this time to be varied say one point is over a period of 1 level while another is over 2 that would be data manipulation. In experiments you can determine your units be whatever they are. You do not have to always use seconds or minutes to determine time in every circumstance. For league it would be extremely hard to calculate the exact BE count over a period of time such as seconds. It makes more sense to take it over a period of time such as games or levels due to how the game works. Also the IP calculation is theoretical data not hard data. It is stated early on that I calculated it based on averages and would be theoretically what you would roughly expect to get if you played your games in the old system.

While I do not have any evidence to prove my theory, I HAVE recently done it and it seemed like it was overall a better grab from the blind eye.

recently i hit level 42- around level 36? I got a random honor capsule ( I already rolled my level 36 one fyi ) So I decided that Im going to hoard all my capsules until I hit level 40. The Idea behind this was because of the ''bad luck prevention thing'' I dont recall if it is just on hextech chests or not but I figured what the hell; I own every champ I have nothing to lose here.

So I hoarded all these capsules since I recently had a few bad capsules with only 1 or 2 shards in them- containing relatively low be for the champ shards. after reaching level 40- I opened 4 level up capsules and 2 honor capsules ( somewhere along the lines I got another one ). So in that 6 total capsules I only opened two chests with one champion shard- in which one was a low be champion shard.

So IF you have nothing you NEED BE FOR, I suggest hanging onto 5+ at a time and opening them one at a time. See if it works for you.

Ill have to try this my self to see if you are right. I'm in the process of recording my 40-50 be gains so ill have to try it for my 50 - 60 run.

I just got roughly 5k for 5 capsules I actually completely forgot about this post until just know so i forgot the exact numbers i want to say it was just under 5 k.
