@Riot: Taric, the Battle Healer?

In one of the threads talking about updates etc I remeber reading a Rioter saying that Taric is going to be a sort of "battle healer".

What I'd like to know is: Does it mean that he will need to hit things in order to be a decent healer/support or that his kit is going to shine if you get to be in battle while giving heals/supporting?

If I had to guess, I'd say their intention is to make Taric not a passive healer like Soraka, but someone who is capable of fighting AND healing.

That would be the best option. I just hope it doesn't end as Mordekaiser Botlane had: his kit being designed to work only if in duo.
