I hate the new Taric.

Riot has basically forced the new taric into the support role, despite before the rework people asking and pleading for him to still be viable in the top role. They completely gutted his damage. They said they wanted to keep what keeps each champ unique in reworks, however what I think made Taric unique was his armor shred. The main idea of the old taric was stun and walk up and bash their face in. The newer taric does not have that same feel.

My proposal?

Add armor shred to taric's empowered basic attacks, or let his q boost his own damage based on armor along with still healing. Or just simply increase the armor damage on his e

The main playstyle of taric before his rework was to laugh as your enemies get destroyed by your unexpected damage as you bash their face in. Riot did not keep this playstyle very well. Taric does next to no damage right now. Yes, taric is a fantastic support right now, but that is all he is. Taric had a solid role as a toplaner and support before the rework, and with the current rework, he is only a support. I think taric deserves the Zyra treatment, and have a minor change to allow him to play the roles that he used to be able to play.

Yeah im just a bronze 5 scrub, but I miss playing my favorite champion in roles he could absolutely destroy in, and with the rework, riot has completely eliminated his viability in those roles.

The only people who wanted him viable top lane are the few people who took him top lane. Supports that are viable top are never healthy.

Why? I don't see why a support can't do well top when midlaners go bot or top laners go bot.

It's not a matter of doing well. It's a matter of being able to play against them. Typically their utility makes them overly obnoxious to deal with so Riot makes them unable to go in other lanes. Very few supports can effectively go mid either for the same reasons. Soraka, Janna, Sona, and Taric have been made suboptimal for other lanes. Lulu seems to be next in line to bring back to the support lane only. Nami was designed from the get go to only be good in the support role and as a result she has had probably the least balance issues of any support.

It just means people have to play differently or try new things against them. It is just frustrating that EVERYTHING has to fit this cookie cutter meta riot wants instead of allowing true freedom for people to play who they want where they want.

New Taric is garbage.

If Rito James™ thought Old Dazzle was TOO STRONK, they could have just reworked Dazzle to what it is now, and left the rest of Old Taric intact.

New Q sucks and New R is boring, boring, unoriginal, boring, boring, lazy design, and boring.

i can honestly agree about the new taric being garbage. i main support role (yes its odd hearing people say that) and ive gotten my husband fed on many occasions because of the old taric kit. his Q does almost no healing. ive tried many builds on him. ive tried pure tank and ive tried pure support and both seem very lacking imho. support build...he cant keep an ally healed for sht and relies solely on his basic attacks. old taric kit..he target his ally for a nice decent heal (augmented by either health or ap or both) and if he target himself he receievd an even better heal. he could solo tank towers while allies are wailing away on it just by healing himself. the current heal has charges...and is only effective at max charges. otherwise its a horrible heal thats cant even save anyone. his currently W gives him and his bastion target armor. while it may sound nice the activated portion of it is completely garbage. the absorb for % of max hp is great. but it only lasts for 2.5 secs. that shield is gone so fast youre not saying anyone with it. might as well save your mana for something a little more useful. his old ability gave armor to all his allies nearby and when he shattered his gem, he did a very decent amount of damage based on ap as well as armor at the cost of reducing his own armor. still a good ability. his current E....do i even need to bother? a charge up stun? how atrocious can an ability be? it takes forever to charge up and if easy to dodge...taric's stun is incoming? head the opposite way you were running and smack his face in because by then he has nothing left but a crappy heal and shield. his old stun may have been single target but it was instant and whoever got hit by it felt the sting of it because the further away they were, the longer it lasted. from what i heard...top laners could keep their target stun locked and just wail away at the enemy. now his old kit may not have been the best but in team fights it shined the best. it buffed party members with increased damage as well as doing a decent amount of damage to nearby enemies. his currently ult while it may be a very nice concept...that whole charge up thing is annoying and needs to go.

I've lost lane to a Taric top lane (the new Taric), but I just might suck at top lane.

Taric is good in top lane just as how he is though.

Taric's passive still surprises with the amount of damage it outputs. You can stun + 2AAs + Q/W + 2AAs and get a fair amount of damage in.

I'm not sure if he's very viable top lane any more, to be sure. But you can do decent damage with him by chaining abilities with autos!

He was never a good toplaner, and was always balanced around being a support.

Same with Leona.

Nothing has changed.

You can run the new taric top. He struggles against range but does pretty well against most melee tops. Just have to utilize his aa's when they get boosted by his passive.

The way you described his playstyle doesn't sound fair at all.

Hey there, long time Taric main and I can see where you're coming from. Old Taric most definitely did more damage and was way more reliable.

However, new Taric does a fair amount of damage. His autoattacks are his main damage source and he isn't a pushover with his E now that it has armor scaling. With max CDR and a ton of mana you can keep his Q up almost infinitely to do more damage. Although he is much more item reliant than Old Taric.

Should he be kept as a niche top lane pick? Absolutely. But should he be balanced completely around it? Not necessarily since he is primarily a support.

(Would fukin love it if his autos shredded aromor though, although we'd hear "OP!!!" in less than a femtosecond)
