Jungle Ganking Tips

JuggernuatFlash··1 votes·3,202 views

Are there any ganking tips that I can use to improve my ganking as either a jungler or mid laner (but mostly jungler) for this season. I've been playing as Master Yi in the jungle for a considerate amount of time but the one thing that I'm having trouble with is ganking. Whenever I try to gank I either end up dead and not getting a kill or getting a kill but dying to a tower or minions. Are there any tips out there so that I can improve my ganking as a jungler like when I should gank or should I gank (for example) bot lane if my team's ADC and support are losing their lane. It would also be nice if you gave me some tips on how to gank as a mid laner or how to snowball effectively. (Sorry for making this question long)

  1. Don't start with your dash. Run in, land a slow (or auto for red buff slow), then use your dash when they flash out, dash out, or CC you and run. Starting a gank with a dash is the easiest way to screw it up.
  2. Buy item 3341 . Wards are mostly garbage in the jungle unless against Udyr, etc.
  3. Don't dive unless very confident in your champion. Towers are broken early game since their buffs.
  4. Run in from around. Gank top/bot from tribush if possible, and gank mid from around the rocks (not through the side bush).
  5. If you clear a ward using raptor smite/pink/sweeper, don't give up. Go around and gank again. Chances are they will either run back to farm or try to re-ward what you cleared.
  6. Watch out for enemy summoners being down. If a teammate says enemy flash down, that's your cue to gank.
  7. If an enemy flashes, that's success. Don't chase too hard. Go back and go around to gank again.
  8. Be wary of the enemy jungler.

These points are so important

  • TAKE NOT OF THE MATCH TIMER when someone calls/ or you see a flash
  • That is a 5 minute window within to successfully gank while flash is down

What do you mean by my dash? You mean my alpha strike or ult?

Dash meaning: Yi Q, Xin E, Diana R. I also save spells like Volibear Q (chase-heavy spells) for when they flash out.

As for Yi ult, it can be a bit situational. It depends on your angle of approach and your damage at the time of the gank. Ideally, you'd run in without ult from behind, walk up to the enemy, and press R right as you reach him to get the most damage out of your ult. However, if you run over a ward and the enemy starts running back, you might have to ult early to cut him off in time (WITHOUT HAVING TO Q). Q should almost always be saved for after the enemy flash/dash/stun, except in cases where you reach an enemy who's almost under his tower already and you still think the gank is worth it at the time (i.e. if there is dive potential).

One of the biggest mistakes I see junglers make when they are lower elo/newer to their champs is that they waste a perfectly good gank by dashing to the enemy right away, and then failing to keep up when the enemy kites them or flashes out.

Your ideal ganking tactic should be as follows:

  1. You run in from the back (through the tribush if ganking blue side bot / red side top or around the rocks if ganking mid).
  2. You WALK to your enemy (spells like Yi R and Skarner W can come anywhere in this step, depending on how fast you need to get there).
  3. You slow them (either with an ability or red buff, if you have none).
  4. Don't dash in a panic. You're fine. Start hitting them.
  5. RUN WITH THEM as you auto attack them (imagine you're kiting the enemy towards his tower, even with melee champions). It is extremely important that you run alongside your enemy between auto attacks. If you stand still while hitting them, they'd run past you and you would lose auto attacks trying to keep up.
  6. They dash away/CC you/flash out.
  7. You dash after them (Yi Q for example).
  8. You kill them.

It's the same with all junglers. Yi should run in from the back, R, use red buff to slow, and save Q for the chase. Volibear should run in, E, and save Q for the chase. Xin should run in, WQ, and save E for the chase.

Of course, almost all ganks are different and you may need to alter your strategy. Some ganks require you to Q first as Yi because you won't get there otherwise, or because there is a dive, or because you need to use your Q untargetability to dodge Twisted Fate's yellow card at the start of the gank. You'll know them when you see them.

Yeah

DENY ENEMY VISION

1.Sweeper 2.VisionWards 3. Tell your jungler which bush you swept and make sure he ganks before your opponent has a chance to get a ward in it.

Thanks these are so helpful. I'll try to use sweepers and pinks and be more aware of summoners cooldowns. So what lvl should I start ganking at. I normally start ganking, as a Yi, at lvl 6 but I see others gank a bit earlier.

Doesn't matter with Yi.

Just be sure to gank from behind instead of running up the river like a douchebag.

How should I react if me and the enemy jungler are ganking the same lane. Should I work with my laner and kill the enemy jungler and enemy laner or should I just turn tail and forget about it.

Do not Gank pre-six with Yi. It is pretty simple. Also only gank if your ult is up.

Yi isn't really a "ganking" jungler. He is a jungler that power farms and ganks only if the kill is virtually free.
