Balance team and public!: Idea for Rengar change
TL;DR at end. So we all know Rengar's been a sore spot for riot. How do you fix a champion who can jump out from stealth and kill a squishy [teemo] in seconds or less? Some of the changes (cough nerfs) have been in a good direction. Making him visible from the beginning of his jump gives the prey (teemo) time to react. An alert system gives his prey information to use, and I've used to screw with people for sure.
I've been playing Rengar since he came out, and I never really liked things like triple Q. What I have always liked, and I think people who have stuck with Rengar will agree, is outplay through ferocity and brush management, good micro, and thoughtful assassin play (aka fighting the alert system). The changes this patch have made it very hard to do some of the things that a hunter, well, really should be able to do. In my opinion, a hunter (assassin-) should be able to kill a lone squishy (teemo) when his whole team is on the other side of the map. With the exception of adc mains, I think most will agree. They (the teemos) can see me a mile away now. It's a strong handicap for an assassin to have, especially since he's only got one chance at gap closing unless there happen to be bushes around.
This is my proposal for his ult: make the alert system more dynamic. Kha'zix's Q works on a system of isolation. I think Rengar's ult alerts should work in a similar manner. A champion on their own should have a smaller detection range. This makes more sense because it allows Rengar to hunt teemos who are doing what they really shouldn't be doing: being alone against Rengar. When a champion is near another champion, they should link up, collectively increasing each others' detection range, and they can link through other champions too, which will severely inhibit Rengar's ability to jump on a squishy who is with the team. I don't think this will crush his viability as a teamfighter. They know he's around, but if a teamfight is about to happen, his team should be around too, and Rengar has always been jumping around. In order to avoid simply making it easier for him to gank, the detection range can scale with level (whether rengar himself, the prey's level [teemo], or ult level, I am not sure). What do you think?
TL;DR Champions alone wouldn't see Rengar from a mile away, but when they are near each other they form a rapport which increases their range of rengar detecting by a large amount. This could scale with level to avoid just making it easier to gank early on.
P.S. Food for thought: Should enemies really be alerted of rengar's presence if he's moving away from them?
