Is Lux really that bad?

I started playing the game this weekend, I'd known about it for years, but...held off because of how "toxic" I was told the game was. (Though honestly I haven't experienced any of that, and it can't be worse than what I've had thrown at me in Overwatch)

But, I've noticed a trend.

Every time I pick Lux as as my champion, I win the match. While if I'm not on her and play Ashe or somebody else my team losses.

But, google searches on Lux players in League make her seem like a throw pick and there's a lot of complaining...

Has she been improved at all with patches and that's why it's easier to play her now than 2018? what gives?

Your prob talking about high elo, Lux is perfect for new players

She's definitely one of the better champs in the game for actually winning matches. She invalidates more than half of the melee roster (in teamfights) just by existing.

Lux just finished getting nerfed for being intolerable as a support.

Also, you are lv7 (according to your profile), down there people suck, dont know how to dodge, and lux exists to punish people who dont dodge.

yea I'm a little noob. I've gotten 4 of the people on the other team in her ult beam....multiple times. That, and popping a fully upgraded shield when ever someone on the other team ults is also fun when I can pull it off. Lux has a lot of aimming required for her kit.

Prepare for people to scream and accuse you of being noskill. Despite every lux ability being a well-telegraphed skillshot, people will get hit by it and blame you for it.

Some similar long-range noob-destroyers to try: Velkoz Xerath Morgana

I have Morgana and her sister so I'll try her out next.

I don't know what champions the first two are :/

I mainly just...shield my team and use her hold ability to make the other team's champions hold still long enough for one of the tanks to punish them.

Vel'Koz and Xerath.

That is one way to play Lux. Usually if you are supporting, go for items like Unholy Grail and Ardent Censer (makes your shield heal/buff allies). If you are playing support in a duo lane, upgrade that spellthief's edge ASAP, as it gives more gold. Once you earn 500 gold it can deploy wards, which is essential.

Also get boots. Every game, no question. Usually tier one boots after your first small item, then upgrade them once you have your first full item. That little bit of speed makes a huge difference, and the magic penetration on item 3020 is a big damage boost.

For a damage-focused build, go for item 3285 Ludens > item 3020 Sorc Shoes > item 3916 Oblivion Orb (maximize your flat magic pen) > item 3135 Void Staff or item 3089 Deathcap if you have a ton of gold/way ahead.

The builds can be mixed and there are other options, like upgrading item 3916 into item 3165 if the other team has strong healing/regen, or item 3157 to defend against assassins.

Lux is really strong if you can hit your stuff, then ofc your passive afterwards, however, if people manage to dodge your Q and E, you ARE practically useless. Shes a very niche pick, for sure, but when you get good with her, its hard to lose.

Lux is generally used as a crutch so people end up being ego driven idiots that go insane if they don't have kills to steal from their team. Outside of beating people who are bad Lux offers little if their Q misses as support and laning against a real opponent is harder than a lot of other champs.

Now, I've been playing a shit ton of ARAM lately, so while I'm not 100% sure for Summoner's Rift, this I can say; Some of the biggest "oh shit" moments I've been having lately includes getting rooted by Lux.

But, you are new, and you're still learning and playing with bots. If you've been liking her, then that's great since you're already getting familiar with someone, though once you get a better grasp of the game and what other champions there are, you'll understand better the strengths and flaws of Lux. Honestly, it's too early for you to worry about her place in the meta.
