Role switching

I have been play league for about a year and a half. (Still learning). I, like many prefer playing draft mode because it's more reliable, less toxic and I can normally trust my teammates. But lately roles and comps are being flipped on their head. Last normal game I played kat mid lane against an Ad thresh... ( but wait theirs more) our bot lane xayah and rakan were matched against a swain and udyr. A few games ago I played lux support with Ashe, against a brand and heimerdinger I built full ap to attempt out damaging their brand. I won both games got an A as kat and S- as lux (finally got a token). If it is it doesn't work (from what I have experienced). I myself have tried ziggs apc it was fine till late game when relying on burst doesn't work against most adc that build i.e. and bloodthrister/ bork rehealing most of dmg dealt.

Is this a new meta/play style?

If so has anybody tried it? And gotten positive results?
