I think it'd depend on the team and the match up.
If you're out csing your lane opponent, then the longer you prolong the lane phase, the greater your gold advantage, so all other things being equal you'd want to stick around farming.
That said, you have to consider how the entire team scales into late game compared to the opposing teams late game, not just the adc match up. Obviously if the opposing team has a nasus or veigar or something like that, even though it's not bot lanes immediate problem, you'd want to get objectives ASAP and hopefully end things before they get out of hand. Similarly, if one or more of the other lanes is losing, then you'd want to clean up before an opposing champ gets overly fed.
You might also want to consider your teams likelihood of playing to their champs' strengths in the post laning phase. If theres a bunch of strong splitpushing champions on your team with meh teamfighting abilities, and your teammates view the post lane phase as the group-mid-and-teamfight phase (as a rather large proportion of my silver comrades seem to), then prolonging laning until you're better equipped to carry can be a thing.
Basically, I don't think theres a hard and fast rule for whats best. Objectives ultimately win games, and if you get into 40+ minute game territory then gold advantage stops mattering since everyones full build so I might lean towards pushing if in an otherwise even matchup, but something that even is fairly uncommon in my experience. Although as I alluded to earlier, I am but a lowly silver person, so my experience might just be lacking.
