Is Karma good right now?

I’m fairly new to the game and with the 10 year anniversary giving you 6K-ish BE, I could now get any new champ I want. Karma is looking really nice and i’m wondering if she’s viable at all? Plus any tips if she IS viable would really nice (runes, lanes, upgrade orders, etc.)

thank

Karma is one of the weakest because they have consistently done NOTHING but Nerf her since Season 5 (Go look at her patch history. Unlike most champions, she literally has 9 nerfs per 1 buff, and the buffs that do exist have limited utility/impact).

If you Q, you won't do enough damage to matter. If you W, you will likely die before it can proc, EVEN if it's 1v1 and you are on R, unless you are a tank. If you E, you have limited usage of R, and the size and duration of E have both been nerfed.

A game with Karma basically goes; Run your butt off, hope your TEAM can kill your tethers, and pray your team can carry you.

She's really weak

She just got a pretty hefty nerf. She's in a very bad spot right now, but if you find her fun, you'll figure out how to make her work eventually.

The boards like to complain about her being "gutted" and "not having an identity". Her WR is below average, but I wouldn't call 47% "gutted". As for "not having an identity" that's just a buzz phrase for "too generalist for my taste". If you don't care about fitting strictly into an established class then don't let it bother you.

She doesn't have an identity. They have made it clear to make champions have an ideal role. She was intended to be a mage, but have been getting pushed all around the map due to nerfs. Her kit has a multitude of utility that makes her able to do a lot of things, none of them well. There will always be another champion that excells at something she can do. The latest nerf put more strain on her soloing ability and pushing her into support roles. Its not just the boards where people have complained, its been everywhere.

Even though recently she has been getting some shine in the spotlight, it still isn't enough to ignore the glaring issues around her kit. Especially with newer champions and runes that have made her abilities seem lackluster. None of them actually really adhere to an enlightened Ionian leader. Plus her passive is very minor against others and multiple people have agreed it should be a passive tacked on to her R. Visually, her looks was supposed to be different, but at the time of her VGU, they didn't have the skills, or tech to accomplish her original VGU plan. However, with her looks being altered a bit in recent media, she could benefit from another upgrade after some older champions.

Also to answer OPs question: She is in a really tough spot, but you CAN make her work. You really have to make some advanced plays and plans to get the best out of her.

She has literally had something like 23 NERFS and one utility buff since Season 5. When a champ whose never really broken out, been around 50% win rate for all those seasons gets 23 major nerfs to their kits over time..... because of some rational that shields are too strong, or "we introduced a new item," or Celerity gives AP (and then doesn't), can't be called anything but a Gutting.

She's the opposite of Caitlyn, whose gotten literally 20+ unretracted buffs since Season 5, for no real reason other than Riot adjusting crit items, changing them back, and the Cait buffs weren't reverted! In fact she was BUFFED MORE. Why? Because her kit's innate weaknesses in mobility, generally keep her averaged out, whether she 2 shots you or 6 shots you.

Karma's the same; Her kit's innate strengths maintain her close to 50% even when she can't actually do anything. 47% on her is horrendous.

She's still a good, safe lane support that fits into any comp. Her damage builds are pretty nerfed for the time being so I wouldn't bother playing her mid, but she's still solid with Ardent in the support role.

I main Karma and in my opinion she is a pretty viable support. She has good damage, crowd control and utility. For runes I'd go summon aery and for her abilities start Q then E then W and max them in the same order. She is really strong with Athene's Unholy Grailitem 3174 as well as Ardent Censoritem 3504 . She has about a 50% win-rate so if you like her you should play her. Also all of this stuff is on champion.gg if you search for Karma. Good luck with her!
