I know this has probably been repeatedly said to death. I will make a small apology for making it an issue yet again, but Riot... You need to understand, and I mean REALLY truly understand. URF does not harm the game, and it does not harm the player base. You are basing your decision purely off statistics.

I can absolutely assure you those statistics you are trying to throw at us are bogus. You say that URF causes players to leave the game... But you are using a statistic that isn't left around long enough to actually provide realistic numbers. Yes, URF causes people to leave the game, SOLELY because you guys only leave the mode in for around 1-2 weeks as best, and then take it away when players who probably already quit the game (hence your HUGE player spike when the mode is released) come back and have fun in the most loved and most enjoyable mode in the game that you guys have ever released. It's been time and time again nearly unanimously agreed upon by the community that it should be regularly released as a mode for the casual community.

You guys are constantly in this "battle" against "toxic" player simply because their only real release from normals or ranked is either ARAM or your (seldomly released) rotating game mode. First off, you really have no place saying you have any sort of "rotating game mode" when you change it once a month at best, with 2 of those weeks out of the month just not having any mode there at all. ARAM is fun, but only for so long. You provide little to no variety to the community in what they are capable of playing. Hell, you don't even allow any sort of game options in custom games aside from what you specifically desire for your community. You've time and time again been showing that you don't want the community to have fun. You want us to conform to your standards of just static normal/ranked environment or ARAM. And you only brought ARAM in as a permanent mode because players were already going to with or without your "consent" by making custom games that you have essentially shown everyone, was a mistake on your end. Whether you choose to admit it or not, given your regular decision making with the game, you didn't want us to have ARAM. You only gave it to us because if you had taken it away, you would have removed a large part of your community that simply wanted to play the game with friends for fun. But you guys treat that like it's a bad thing if it's anywhere outside the normal summoners rift.

If you want mine and almost ANY casual players honest and serious opinions. Normal summoners rift IS slow. It IS boring, it IS frustrating it IS toxic. No matter how you guys look at it and try to change it. That's not changing. Why? Because most of the casual player base just wants to get home from a hard days work, (pray to ANYTHING) that they can hop into a game of league and HOPE that it's going to be a fun game. HOPE that their team isn't going to flame, HOPE that the game isn't going to last more than 30 minutes, HOPE that the 30+ minutes they are in game isn't going to be the most stressful and worst 30+ minutes of their day. AFTER their shitty full time shift at work.

And why don't you want to release URF as just a normal mode for casual players to get home and have a quick bullshit, no ties, not serious, fun game after a long day? Because it would "split the community more". That's a joke. I'm sorry to say it, but you, I and everyone else KNOWS that's a joke and you are only kidding yourself with that excuse.

And if you want to try and use ARAM as an example, as if "oh well we released ARAM as a regular mode, and sure the player count spiked on release but then it dropped back to normal numbers". In what way is that a bad thing? Please, explain to me in what way you guys balance ARAM. Because the way it seems, you don't. And it's not like that is a problem. People go into ARAM expecting the game to be an imbalanced mess. But that's what makes it fun. And that's exactly what is going on with URF.

You say "URF causes people to leave the game". You want proof that you are both right and wrong? Take ARAM out of the game. Watch your numbers. Because I promise you they would drop. Not because ARAM causes people to leave the game. But because you took away something that was an escape from the normal BS of the regular modes.

You aren't "Splitting the community" by giving them more modes to play. You are strengthening it. The people that decide to come back to play URF only, weren't going to play normals. You only alienate them by taking away the 1 last thing you made that kept them playing. Nobody comes back to play because of Ascension, or 1 for all... Those are modes that can be made in custom games as long as you have a full party that wants to do it. (maybe no ascension) But URF has always been regarded as something special to the community as pretty much a whole. But you refuse to give it to use because of that small faction that is going to get bored of it and not play it like ARAM. The people that leave the game because they got bored of URF, or ARAM, or any other mode you make. Were not going to stick around much longer to begin with. I'm not sure why you guys think they would.

You are making the mistake of sticking to raw data. I've looked at the best provided player count data I can find, and all you guys have ever been trying to do is slow down a steady decline. Sure the numbers may seem somewhat "stagnant" but give any one the charts over the last few years, and your biggest spikes of players are mainly in the new seasons, when you make the biggest changes. You are trying to kid us all by telling us that URF causes players to leave, when new competitive seasons do literally the EXACT same thing.

You make a major overhaul to the game, cause a ton of old and new players to hop in and try things out. Then most of those players get bored and fall off. They quit the game.

How is it any different from when you give us the treat of URF and then take it away? Then numbers fall faster? OF COURSE THEY DO! YOU TOOK AWAY THE ONE THING THAT BROUGHT PLAYERS BACK!

Why do you guys think it's a bad thing that just because URF is in the game, that a part of the community is only going to play URF, as if it's some sort of bad thing? You aren't dividing the community. You a giving another place to play to a community that is already divided. URF, along with ARAM, is just another solution to a problem that essentially you yourselves have created by providing next to no variety to the community to play with.

Nobody is asking you to balance around URF. And if anyone ever did, they would be the minority. We just want variety. We want something else to play.

Hell... If you refuse to release URF... Just give us weekly/bi-weekly/monthly rotating game modes. But stop taking out the modes and putting it in this limbo state where there is nothing there. Just a locked "Rotating game mode" slot with nothing there. It makes the slot as a whole just feel redundant when it's only once and a while without much word of when or what the new mode will be.

Please RIOT... I'm asking on behalf of myself. And a large part of the casual community. The majority of the community that plays your game... Just put in some more BS modes for us to play with... We dont expect any sort of balancing for them. Just put in the mode with the 10 ban system we have, and that will be enough.

Again, I know I am bringing up a topic that has probably been done to death... But I've been playing this game for nearly 6 years. I just want you to understand how badly committed players like me just want a few more game modes to play on a regular basis. Players like me have no plans of going pro, we just play the game for fun. Whether it be alone, or with friends. I/we, just want to be able to make a non-meta pick (say something stupid like garen bot lane) without being called a troll and reported as if it's some sort of problem for me to want to step out of meta and just have fun doing something that, I'll be honest, is stupid.

I just wish you guys could understand what it is to be part of the casual community. because you've regularly proven you don't... If just any of your creative team (not casters) played the game on a regular basis. They would understand what I and many players mean.

Please riot... Just understand... I love this game. I truly do. But lack of variety outside blind pick (which you can get reported for going off meta in that even), is really making it hard to have actual fun in your game.

Didn't read everything but I agree that keeping other games modes around permanently like urf would be a good thing and I don't even like them :p I just enjoy ranked/ draft, but every time urf and what not comes around plenty of people are my friends list are like "i can't wait for urf next week" And even if it does "divide" the community the community would probably actually be bigger as a whole.

Don't see anything wrong with having something like urf around permanently and just being like "people really love this game mode so we decide to keep it around permanently however the game will still only be balanced around ranked/ normals ect and that these game modes are a fun alternative" or whatever lol.

Exactly. I don't expect the game to be balanced for the alternative modes at all. Like you I actually do prefer the normals/ranked for the most part, (mind you I suck, always have) but having an alternative to play once and a while is refreshing to me. The toxicity of ranked can be a lot at times. But I still want to play league. Having an alternative mode can be a godsend at times.

Like I said in my original post, as did you. Keep the game balanced for competitive all you want, that's not a problem. But giving the community little to no alternatives to play with only divides and alienates us more in the long run.

Just because we have an alternative doesn't mean nobody will go back to the original. It's just truly refreshing to have the CHOICE to play another mode.

This is literally the first ever forum post I have ever made. In nearly 6 years of playing. I love this game. I just don't like the mindset riot has had over the years.

You guys act as though just because there is a casual community that plays URF or whatever other mode that is provided, that it will take them away from the competitive scene... In what sport has that ever happened?

It's akin to saying people shouldn't play football/soccer/hockey/basketball etc., with their own rules when they are in their own yard playing by themselves or with friends, because if they did that then they would never truly enjoy watching the pro scene of said sport. That's not how it works. Those who were going to enjoy the pro scene were going to enjoy it regardless. And vice versa for those who don't.

You don't send referee's to people's houses to tell them that they are playing the game wrong and ruin their experience just because you had a certain st of rules that need to be 100% followed 100% of the time or face ban. We just want to have a good time, along with just about everyone else in the world. We just want a fun past time. Yet, you guys repeatedly made it look like you don't want us to have fun. You just want us to stick to competitive conformity that, in general, is never going to apply to most of us as a whole.

I'm not saying to stop balancing the game around the competitive scene. I think I along with most of the community is fine with that. Balance the normal/desired game mode how you so choose. It is your game, I can't deny that, and I can't even say that my post/posts should necessarily have any sort of sway in the grand scheme.

But I think your sport, along with any other needs to understand. You aren't going to last forever. Not as a full on Esport anyways. But you have a caring, casual community, a community willing to spend money on this game when that esport era comes to an end. That's something regular sports don't have. You need to recognize that. When soccer/football/hockey/basketball etc. come to an end, there's no company that can make money off kids playing in the local field/court.

You guys, have a rare opportunity of having a casual community, once your competitive scene ends, that would still be willing to spend money to buy skins and other such things just out of enjoyment. Yet you guys seemly ignore this part of your community, treating us as though we don't matter. I can promise you, if you are looking to last the long run. Treating us in such a way is a mistake. You are taking the larger part of your player base for granted. It's going to come back to bite you.

I didn't read it all, sorry if you talked about this somewhere in your post. I don't think splitting the playerbase further would be a good idea. Servers like EUNE already don't have Normal Draft Pick enabled outside of peak hours and introducing another permanent mode would only worsen the situation and maybe introduce the same problem to other servers too.

Wrusher1 votes

To address your point, if they don't allow normal draft outside peak hrs, I don't expect that would change too much. However, a solution would be to just to only allow urf outside peak hrs. Or to just start allowing draft at any time, however queue times may be longer for draft. But if they have to disable it completely outside of peak hours, I don't exactly see that being a critical issue. A thing I'd like to also point out, is that apart from the general player attitude, which can be easily ignored. Ranked draft realistically is no different from normal draft. People only look at it different because, again general player attitude, and an arbitrary #/rank that somehow makes the game more "serious". It really doesn't.

Unless you seriously plan on going pro, it means nothing. Even then, a lot of pro players will tell you that solo queue rank means nothing. If you're serious about climbing, you will climb.

But again, ranked means nothing except for a small badge of honor you can place on yourself for a slight ego boost. But who outside you're league friends care? Hell, league friends hardly care either lol.

I'm not trying to diminish the issue, as obviously player count in EUNE is obviously rather low. But that isn't something that can be easily solved. I mean, best/worst case scenario, riot could just not implement the modes for regions similar to yours. However, I think you could understand why there might be some considerable backlash to that. I also think that while you believe it may divide your community (as well as others even further) it's something that could bring new players in. New players that might start by playing urf, but then transition in to normal blind / draft. It's something similar that happened with ARAM. Many players stopped playing normals for a short while because ARAM became a regularly playable mode. But many of those players got bored of ARAM and just went back to playing normals, just as I'm certain would happen with urf.

I don't believe the community divide is as big an issue as you may think. It may have an impact early on. But assuming urf wasn't just removed shortly after being implemented again. Then I don't see why the player base wouldn't level off once again. It's not about dividing the community. It's about giving players variety. Normal SR is, and has been stale for quite some time. And while riot has made some... interesting changes to shake it up. It's still just SR. The same map, with the same champions, the same mechanics, and the same toxic players. URF (while on the same map) really shakes up what champs can do and the mechanics of the game, and while some players might try to make up a "meta" for urf... it's still urf. You can do what you want. Just don't be a d**k lol.

Also, just kinda thought of this (though I'm sure I'm not the only one) URF on Crystal Scar could probably be a hell of a lot of fun. Weather it be ascension URF or old school CS. Just no all random crap...

Anyways, I think I've overdone what I was trying to get across, probably could have said what I wanted to say in much fewer words. But I like writing so.... meh. lol

Where were you when Riot posted the numbers? If you look at the numbers they posted, the servers would swell with players...for a couple days. Then the numbers would actually plummet. Urf DOES hurt the game. By giving this cheap alternative, players feel like they can get all of the League they want to get out of League of Legends, and then just leave for the week. URF was toxic for Riot's server activity. You need to (as I have said a hundred times now) aceept that if you weren't there for the first time Urf was released, you will never experience the golden age of Urf. There were no metas, everything was fresh and new, and you didn't get frustrated at the mode in 4 games.

Definitely responding incredibly late to this... But here I go.

You don't seem to understand what I mean. Nor do you understand that quoting those #'s riot posted only further my point. People do not leave the game because urf is in the game. People leave the game, because urf was taken away. If they left urf in the game for an extended period of time, and then the #'s dropped. They would be right, urf is hurting the game, and is causing players to leave. But that isn't what the data is saying. First of, what they probably haven't said, is that when urf was released (or at the very least a couple days after, when people have had the chance to tell friends about it) there was most likely a rather large spike in player count, or at least one worth taking note of. While the player count would most likely have slowly started going down again, as does with any game regardless of mode. Urf was not the cause of people leaving. REMOVING urf, was the cause of players leaving. What they aren't telling you, or what they don't want to say (consider this a conspiracy all you want) is that player count didn't plummet until AFTER they removed the mode. They are just too prideful of a company to ever admit something like that and so they hide certain truths. They've proven it time and time again. Ex. slowly giving back nearly the exact same Leblanc, or the exact same old Ahri. They made a mistake and are trying to cover it up with real statistics hidden behind shady PR.

Not only is my problem that they removed urf and refuse to re-release it as just a normal mode. (Again if you want proof why urf would work fine, just take a look at ARAM.... People used to religiously play it in custom games, and never once did #'s plummet because of it, even after they made it an official mode... so... why urf?) My problem is that they won't admit, that they made a mistake removing it, they won't admit that they just didn't like people having more fun with their bullspit no holds bars full who gives a fck mode, and that people got mad and left when they took it away.

Riot has proven them selves incapable of admitting mistakes... over... and over.. and over. They make video posts addressing the problems people have with the game... While never actually addressing them in game... They wait until almost everyone has forgotten about their f**k up, and then re implement it somewhere down the line. Again, LB, Ahri, or better yet... rotating ARURF.... A cheap "middle ground" to what people want... without actually giving it to us... They somehow think making the champ select for urf random, will make it all better and that we'll forget about the much better and much more enjoyable free select in urf... On top of that, making the mode only available for like 2-3 days... a week tops...

Hell, original urf was only supposed to be for april fools day. But it was SO SUCCESSFUL they kept it for almost a month (at least according to recollection, research has served poorly) at the very least 1 week, if not 2. But still, it was something that was only supposed to be 1 day. And don't misconstrue my recollection on how long the mode was available, as comparable as to how good I and a large portion of the community know it was. Even if it was only around for 2 days, I can tell you, the amount of time and fun I had playing with my friends in it, was some of the best times I've had in all of league of legends.

Riot are seriously shooting themselves in the foot with this... There are newer players that haven't had the chance to play real urf. Who i know wish they could have.

But riot has this mentality that, because original summoners rift feels slower after playing urf, (which it absolutely does) that it turns players off from the game, makes them quit. The reality is. The players that quit because norms felt slower, were going to quit one way or another... Unless they had/have friends to consistently play with and give them a reason to come back. They were going to leave. URF, gave them a way to have fun again, a reason to stick around, just like ARAM. I can promise you if they had just removed ARAM entirely, the player count would have dropped in a very similar fashion... People, like you, just have a hard time dealing with that fact, because riot said so.

That's not a personal attack by the way. None of this was. This is something I and again, a large portion of the community have come to notice. Just like a good chunk of the community have come to agree that league is getting progressively more linear in what you are capable of doing that higher up you get in competitive play. Riot is constantly pushing THEIR agenda. Which would be fine... If they'd just give the larger part of the playerbase something more innovative and entertaining to do. And no... once a month (if that) rotating game modes that stick around for 1 week TOPS do not count.... They haven't even tried to make those consistent... Why? Because they take a portion of the community that actually just wants to have fun bullspitting in league and just doesn't let them. And when they decide to start doing stupid crap just for some change in normals and "ruining" other peoples games. "BAN THEM, GET THEM AWAY FROM OUR GAME"...

Again.... I believe I stated this in my original post, and I will say it again. I love league of legends... Always have, it's brought me some of the most fun I've ever had and introduced me to a lot of people that I otherwise would have never met from all likes of the world. But I can't say the same for the game now. I admit, maybe it's because after playing for over 5yrs that it's just gotten stale for me to a degree. But, I still play it. And I still want the game to flourish. I have friends that won't play anymore, friends that think it's dead, friends that want it to die. But I want it to continue to do well. And I'm certain, implementing 1 game mode... or at the very least... making their rotating game modes consistent to anything other than JUST events. Isn't going to harm the game... It could only help.

To those think that game modes divide the community.... The community is already divided. The difference is. The ones that don't want to play SR... HAVE to play SR... or do as I and many other have done recently... play ARAM... The "divide" is essentially irrelevant for anyone below diamond 2-3. And those above it, I doubt are about to give up trying to climb or maintaining their rank. And for those playing blind/draft norms... you have literally nothing to worry about. There are 100s of thousands of players in all regions ready to go. You're queue impact would be no more than 5-10 sec.

I know these are essays in and of themselves, and I realize I am 3 months late to a response. Just kinda made the post and forgot about it. But I'm trying to clear up all points, as well as be as civil as I can about it. As this is something that I'm rather passionate about riot not only changing, but admitting to their mistake. There's nothing wrong with mistakes, they're the process of learning. But doubling down on them only makes people question and lose respect for you. Admitting to them and fixing them not only gets the communities respect, but their understanding.
