Supporting

Hello this post is not about who is better. I'm just asking how can I simply get better at Support. I made Silver 5 by myself but I want to start rising. I find myself not doing good when it comes to helping out teammates. Does anyone have any suggestions on ways to get better?

This might help.

I play a lot of Leona, and I find that I've done better just through tons of practice. I've reached the point where I really know my limits pretty well, can dive the other two and mess with them a long time while the ADC is helping, then run at the last second. I usually escape, if not, my ADC gets the kill while they try to finish me off. That's of course specific to tank supports. :)

who do you play as support?

Platinum 1 support main here, the first order of business would be to help your teammates because that's the #1 priority of a support. The second thing I would tell you is don't play ranged supports, just don't, playing tank supports will give you more impact and make you better at the game. You can always abuse Janna or Zyra for freelo but if you want to actually get better in the long run, play tanks. Warding is also important, buy sightstone first and then buy sweeper as soon as you get sightstone, you should also upgrade your sweeper as soon as you can (level 9) and use it to clear out enemy vision. Another important part of support is roaming and skirmishing, if you're just sitting in lane feeling like you have nothing to do then roam somewhere, gank mid, help your jungler invade, ward dragon, but at least do something. Teamfights are also really big, you could be the best laning support ever but if you can't teamfight you won't win any games, it's not something you can be taught but rather something you learn from experience. Also, you shouldn't care about lane, lane doesn't matter, if you're in a matchup you know you'll lose, don't fight, concede don't feed even if your ADC pings a million times to go in if you know you're gonna lose a trade or an all in, don't take that trade or all in. The final thing is that in 9/10 matchups ignite is a trap and you shouldn't take it, almost always go with exhaust, ignite is only really good vs soraka or sona or another squishy support with a lot of heals. Exhaust is the best summoner spell outside of flash in the game with almost as little counterplay as flash so make use of it. This was a pretty brief overview but if you actually master a lot of those things, be patient throughout the game and pick your fights wisely you can make it to gold easy.
