Pre-Worlds Update's Effect on Strength of Ages Mastery

I just read the new post by Riot on the Pre-Worlds update to help the pro scene, and the first question i thought of, was about what was going to be done to the Strength of Ages mastery seeing as you would not be able to use it as efficiently.

Heres some math: Considering you would only encounter a cannon minion every 5 waves (Note: Using 5 waves because that is how long it takes for top lane, and its the lane its most often used in), with minions spawning every 30 seconds, it would take 2 minutes and 30 seconds to encounter your first. Taking into account the time the first minions do spawn, your first cannon would show up after 4 minutes.

This means you would get only get about 7 cannons during laning phase, giving you a max potential of 140 bonus health if you dont miss any.

After the twenty minute mark you get one every other wave, which is makes it much better, but after that 20 minute mark your not going to be in your lane farming as much as you were since you'll be roaming and what not. While it would make it easier to stack at that point, with games tending to close out sooner, I feel like the mastery would just not be worth to take into lane at all.

In conclusion, I know it may already feel like it doesn't work in lanes for some, but there are some niche picks that can really use it well and can be used to try new and different play styles. I know its still very early and things may change to the update, but i feel like this is something that should be taken into consideration and felt like sharing my thoughts. Thanks for sticking around and reading if you made it this far.

You should've posted this on their post. But they probably won't listen to you anyways. They don't listen to anyone. It's literally "what does Riot feel like doing to the game today?" Do they even ask for pro input anymore? I feel like the last time was with the support/vision overhaul in Pre-Season 4. I mean, I could be wrong.

Yes the have ignore supports since season 4.. I wonder why no one wants to queue as support now a days and the lack of supports causing huge queue times.

You still get a minion every 3 waves in lane until 20 minutes, when they start just varies slightly like so:

  • Bot gets cannons at waves 3,6,9 etc
  • Mid gets cannons at waves 4,7,10 etc
  • Top gets cannons at waves 5,8,11 etc

but it doesnt matter because i always miss them*[zombie-nunu-bummed]*

Could you alter it so the top cannon spawns first? Top is by far the most likely to be running Strength of Ages, yet they get their cannon last.

i dont see why so many people care about this mastery,i dont pick it for any top laner.

Technically junglers take Strength of the Ages the most (by far I might add), although top is the most likely lane to be taking it.

I meant as far as lanes go. Cannons wouldnt apply too much to junglers :p

I believe the point of it spawning bottom first is to reinforce the laneswap advantage that bot would have. With the bot tower having less damage reduction AND it having the first cannon, any team swapping to the top is certainly going to lose the first blood tower bonus.

This actually opens up the possibility for lane-SotA to be stronger since a SotA laner roaming and rotating can hit each lane the moment the cannon minion dies to stack faster.

Um sorry terrible idea. You would miss so much CS roaming from lane to lane, every wave. Yes you'd stack SotA faster, but you're better off farming each wave in one lane, you can afford a ruby crystal much faster.

Plus you really think Mundo top roaming down to bot lane, to take the ADC's siege minion that is heresy and likely would tilt any ADC those things are like golden cows.

They don't have to kill the cannon minion, he just has to tp gank when there's a cannon minion that dies. It would be kinda silly for the top laner to never influence other lanes, if he just makes sure to time it with the cannon wave for that lane and if he pulls it off one time he's already at a net positive for the rest of the game compared to before the wave changes.

Have you considered how these asymmetry changes are reinforcing a particular meta that you want to see? With this mentality of buffing the presence of the adc+support bot lane to defend/attack the more vulnerable turret i dont think we will ever see truly interesting new metas like double jungle or double mid. Food for thought.

Thats why Strength of Ages is only that good on Junglers. Sure you only get 10 per camp, but you clear way more camps than you do cannon minions. Especially early in the game

Its more of a jungle mastery anyways. It is used in lane, just isnt as popular as other choices. But I do agree it makes it less viable

Strength of ages could use a buff for lanes anyway, i hardly ever see it or use it my self in lane, getting the stacks is just to unreliable there and your earlygame suffers alot vs other masteries. Also, there is little that changes with that, you get your first siege minion 2 waves delayed in top compared to before, the rest stays the same(siege-minions spawn every 3 waves for every lane, the 5 waves is just the delay for the **first **siege wave)

How about they actually change it so that this mastery is equally good in lane as it is in the jungle just by making it so that canons give 15 hp instead of 10 ?
