Veigar Stun touch-up

Am I the only one that thinks Veigar's stun is telegraphed far too heavily? For a champ with zero mobility/escape and only one CC option, that option is crazy easy to dodge. If the telegraph needs to stay then maybe alter it so that if anyone dodges the rim and stays mobile in the area the AOE range for his W is bumped up to the entire area within the stun. The little guy is in a great place damage wise, but he's far to easily countered when anyone can see that stun coming a mile away.

When playing veigar it always feels like much more than .5s. Sometimes I wonder if the .5 has gone by, but the game isn't checking enough to see if somebody is occupying the space for the stun often enough so occasionally it may not register someone as stunned even though they should be(similar to how a raka e may not always silence targets coming out of statis and such.)

In other news, I believe that veigar could at the very least use some touch ups on visuals. It can be difficult sometimes to measure where his w is at in terms of a safe and not so safe zone. His E can sometimes be a bit misleading as far as how close to the wall people have to be before it will stun.

As far as balance changes, his E is fine. If you have flash up, chances are that being caught inside his e is a death sentence(granted veigar has teamates nearby to assist in the damage) as people cant dash through it without getting stunned. Veigars E, unlike many other abilities such as a blitz hook, can actually stop a tristana in the middle of her jump.

Fair point.

"No" you think it should stay, or "no" i'm not the only one that thinks it should go?

would you rather pre rework insta stun veigar?

SweetTRIX1 votes

I left a suggestion of how to handle it if people feel the telegraph needs to stay. At least back in the insta-stun days people had to stay on their toe's when laning against Veigar, now its such an easy read you basically only have yourself to blame if you walk into the rim. I'd be happy for some sort of middle ground, even a slightly less obvious (and lengthy) telegraph, but as it stands its not terribly useful against experienced players.

honestly the thing is so tiny that locking someone in it is the equivalent of stunning them and doesnt it stun you if you try dashing through it?

SweetTRIX1 votes

No, it really isn't. There is actually a lot of room to move within the thing, and as it pertains to the champ itself there is room enough to avoid any follow-up ability other than his ult and fire back if you're ranged. As it stands the stun is more of a disengage tool than a terribly useful CC because anyone who knows the champ can avoid it rather easily.

In my experience the only people that suffer in the deadzone of his stun are quite new to the game and simply don't know any better. Experienced players won't attempt a dash through it, most flash, blink, or fight back if their particular champ allows.

i have been in many situations where even though I didnt get stunned from it I was still locked inside and got killed because I had no way out ive also watched teammates just walk around inside helplessly trying to dodge his W whenever he decides to cast it, only to just get bursted down by his other abilities

That's just it though, he only has 3, a skill shot, an AOE (also telegraphed) and his ulti (which is point/click). Only times in the last year or so I've had (or seen) much success with him is against players who don't know his kit, who assume their either dead or stunned even though they've avoided the rim. Smart players may only take a single shot or none at all, and since his rework his ulti is really only an early game threat if you're low health.

It's like that probably because being hit by that near enough guarantees your death.

Only in the late game, which is true of any burst champ with hard CC. Given how much focus has been put into quality of life changes into champs and giving them either outplay potential or tools that force opponents to consider how to engage then specifically his current stun doesn't fit terribly well.

It's because having the zoning power of an AoE 1.5 second, let alone 2.5 second stun at max rank is incredibly powerful.

It's not about Veigar's kit himself just alone. His team utility and zoning potential is incredibly strong just because of the cage.

2.5 second stun in a teamfight is pretty much guaranteed death regardless if Veigar dies the split second it appears, because the rest of his team can just kill you instead.

I'm not talking about team utility though. Team utility changes the context of much of the game, but for a burst AP champ in an arena full of burst AP champs that have either point/clink CC or mobility moves, he is behind the ball when it comes to laning. Its mid-late game potential shouldn't stomp out its laning phase utility.

He's not supposed to be strong in laning. That's the whole point. Veigar is meant to be exclusively a lategame scaler as opposed to someone like Syndra for instance who's more of a threat in lane where people wouldn't stop her from setting up her ultimates, or assassins who are meant to be strong in early.

I'd agree with that if his ratio's weren't what they are and he absolutely relied on his passive stacks to do any damage, but that isn't the case. The whole reason they introduced the telegraph was due to how much damage he can produce, at any point in the game. My issue is that they simply went a little to far with hit. As I said in the OP, where he is as a damage dealer is fine, its just that his CC lacks utility because any opponent (lane or otherwise) see's it coming with enough time to avoid.
