4K Resolution League of Legends Scaling

The Problem:

Right now, League of Legends does NOT support 4K resolutions. When you attempt to have the game running on 4K, the in game HUD and menus end up unbelievably small and are near impossible to actually see clearly. The only thing that shows up properly are the numbers, if they were in a 1080p HUD. On a 4K hud, the numbers look bulbous and huge. Those with 4K resolutions have to currently lower their native resolutions to 1080p, which reduces quality and stability, in order to have the HUD look anywhere near it should be.

The Reason it Should be Addressed

Currently, monitors being made with 4K resolution compatibility are increasing in amount and frequency. As the market grows for 4K monitors, there is going to be a huge influx in people purchasing said monitors for the quality over 1080p, especially as the monitors get cheaper as time goes on. A majority of PC gamers that would utilize said monitors do play league of legends and other MOBAs. Having 4K resolution support on a game that still has quite a lifespan ahead of it would further cement League of Legends as the "go-to" MOBA.

What needs to be done

Allow for the HUD to scale with your resolution and not the text scaling from your native resolution. Have it scale instead, with the in game client to allow for people to adjust their hud and client sizes, on the fly. Graphically the game looks phenomenal on 4K resolution, but the glaring issues that currently exist with 4K League make it near impossible to properly play. Lastly, the mouse cursor needs to also scale alongside the HUD. Currently it is too small to really be able to distinguish it on screen and it makes it hard to properly control your champion and map controls.

TL;DR

  1. 4K resolution for League of Legends doesn't have the HUD and mouse cursor scaling up.
  2. 4K scaling support would allow people who use 4K monitors to properly enjoy League of Legends
  3. 4K monitors and TVs are going to become the new norm, similar to how 1080p has been for some time.
  4. Those of us on 4K monitors would love to enjoy the graphical glory that is 4K league with a proper HUD and cursor.
  5. Teemo is satan.

Before they reworked it, there used to be a "HUD scale" slider. Not sure how that worked on 4K, but I know I used it to minimize some of the buttons so that I could see more of the bottom of the screen, which was very useful on purple side bot lane.

Currently on 4K, the only thing that happens is the actual sizing becomes smaller or bigger. The numbers still end up huge compared to the icons and the icons don't scale properly. its almost like stretching out a 720p image to fit a 1080p screen.

I run on 4K; it's very annoying that there are these bugs. The cursor is too small and the timer on the top right is partially off screen and the item numbers don't fit in their boxes. It's really shitty to be honest.

Really want to start playing in 4k, but right now I'm forced to reduce my resolution to 1440p and change my windows DPI scaling to 100% (usually at 150%) in order to play without any sizing issues. Primary problems playing at 4k (with increased Windows DPI scaling typical of 4k users) include:

  • All in-game text is far too large.
  • Cursor is tiny
  • Minion health bars are tiny

There are probably more but these are the big ones.

I support this thread! I can't play well when everything is all screwy. Even @1080p the shop menu is too large hides things. I end up having to play in 4120x2160 just to see everything and then the scaling done from windows @200% messes up text in game. It's annoying changing settings and restarting for gameplay. please fix thanks! because without scaling I cant see before game starts.

First time poster but I have just bought a new ASUS Zenbook UX 501 laptop for school and work. League is also something that I do a whole lot of but ever since ive installed League of Legends on this new laptop there has been nothing but problems. It started with the scaling issues that everyone has been talking about for a while now. Now today January 14th of 2016 the Patch 6.1 update was release and now has made my client unusable. Please look into this. Ive reinstalled and also played around with compatibility but nothing has helped. The client now locks in an almost Windowed mode where i can see what is going on in champion select but through a black haze. I cannot click or type and the only solution is to exit the client and restart it.

This is a game I truly enjoy playing but am becoming very frustrated that this is such a problem for over a year.

Would love some help with this!

This. Rito please fix this. I would love to play lol in 4k but I can't. The health bars are far to small. As well as my cursor. Just get them to scale properly and all will be well

Isn't 4k hd a little excessive for LoL

Have you even seen 4k?? Once you play a game at 4k, 1080p looks blurry.

Agreed. The graphics are beautiful at 4k, the characters are great.. everything looks great if we could just solve the scaling issues... My god i have had 4k at work for three years and at home for the same time.. Riot, please fix this.

i also play on a 4k tv. most of the HUD will scale just fine. the only hting that drives me insane is there is no mouse scaling options. when i switch it 1080p the game looks like im playing mindcraft of something its super blocky and looks like crap. they dont even need to add a actual scale bar for the mouse, just do like blizzard did in diablo and add a "large pointer" option.
