so I just hit level 30, I'm pretty new and not all that good. I am playing in normals and ranked now and I am getting absolutely crushed. will match making eventually hook me up with people at my skill level or am I stuck going up against silvers and golds forever? I ask this because I don't want to constantly drag 4 other players down (ranked play in particular)
Mysticman891 votesMatchmaking is based on your behind the scenes mmr, and goes down when you lose and up when you win. Normals mmr and ranked mmr (and other modes) are distinct from one another, so occasionally you'll see high ranked players with relatively low normals mmr, and similarly you'll sometimes find low ranked players with relatively high normals mmr. Point being, don't interpret the ranks of people in normals to be their skill level.
That said though, yes you'll eventually be hooked up with people your skill level, it can just take a number of games for your mmr to fall to a level appropriate to your skill.
