So I'm 0-6 in my placement games at the moment...

So after waiting a while before playing ranked at 30, I decided to start my placement games. Warning: Rant starts here but I will try and keep it under control and as unbiased as possible. Every game I have played so far has been an absolute slaughter: completely one sided/ begging to surrender at 20. I'm talking about being down 3-18 20 mins in. There is always someone feeding like crazy and my team just does not want to get its crap together. There is no trolling in champ select or arguing beforehand. Everyone is content with their roles and friendly and the games are flame free. In every game so far I have had teammates lose their lanes or someone feeds. BADLY. I main top, but with how ranked pick works I usually have to play jungle, which I am fine with. As jungle J4, I set up some pretty good ganks and force flashes and get out with assists occasionally, but there are times when I just simply cannot save a bot lane who is down 0-4 7 mins in, even when I do gank for them before it happened to get that bad. I know there are plenty of games in which I do bad myself and there is no one to pin the blame on but myself but I feel like I am getting shafted with my luck of being on the team that loses hopelessly.

I will now give my best recounts of the 6 placement games I have played so far, starting with the most recent and working my way down:

Game 6: counterpicked their Malphite with Vlad... turns out it's jungle Malph and top Rek'sai, who I've never laned against before. I'm doing okay and passively csing, however, eventually I make a mistake and lose a bad trade and wind up dying. Then Rek'sai proceeds to roam (I pinged Mia and every lane multiple times). He gets 3 kills. Our Akali is 0-3 to Malz in mid. Our Mid laner decids to roam and feed Bot lane, who was only down by 1 kill at that point. Then everything goes to hell and we lose. Went 0-5-3. I did terrible once rek'sai got fed and would instantly get tower dived if I showed back up in top lane to farm (like Vlad is supposed to). http://matchhistory.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/#match-details/NA1/1674251153/218213590?tab=overview

Game 5: Jungle J4 time. Bot lane getting bullied so I gank. Flashes blown by enemy duo bots. Gank top with me and our WW eating Sion. Our mid lane starts roaming bot and proceeds to create an all you can eat buffet. From there it's over, ending with a 2-7 mid laner and a 2-8 bot laner. I do my best to help counter gank but in the end we get slaughtered by their fed adc's and mid laner.

Game 4: Riot's servers were complete crap that day (right before they went down to try and fix them). Only 3 people on our team make it in. Our mid laner and top laner get in the game 10-12 minutes in. We got slaughtered since it was 3v5 for all of early game. I wrote this game off.

Game 3: Teemo mid gets shit on by Ahri in mid lane fairly quickly. Top lane is losing. I make a few successful ganks resulting in kills/assists but our Sona is basically walking into their Tristana, Teemo is getting wrecked mid, and Riven isn't doing so well vs diana all 3 of my lanes are losing bad. I am doing my best to help but... it happened. http://matchhistory.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/#match-details/NA1/1670363703/218213590?tab=overview

Game 2: Jungle Rengar. Pretty bad game for me. However, our Ashe had an even worse time going 1-13-3. I ganked bot for her and got her a kill after giving up FB but still dies when she decides to tower dive. That was her only kill. All other lanes do very well but it's pretty hard to win a game with an enemy Lucian running around with 21 kills. I know as jungler I can always be blamed to an extent of a lane losing because I am supposed to help them but come on, it was like this Ashe never played anything besides bots to get to lvl 30. http://matchhistory.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/#match-details/NA1/1658261607/218213590?tab=overview

Game 1: Mid lane gets eaten, top lane is doing okay but eventually his matchup starts roaming to mid (getting free kills). Again our bot lane isn't doing too hot (not as bad as game 2). But everyone is getting wrecked, especially our mid lane Who I do gank for frequently, but it's as if they have never played against human opponents. http://matchhistory.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/#match-details/NA1/1658220594/218213590?tab=overview

TL;DR Basically every game there is someone who seems to have very little experience playing the game and doesn't know what they are doing. In normals my teammates are 100% better and I almost never see anyone feed a lane like a soup kitchen. I know they are placement games and that's why they are there: to sort out the not so good people from the good people, but my complaint is that when I get matched into a 10 person game, all the not so good people end up on my team. I know I am not a pro player by any means but I feel like I have a very solid grasp on the game. I don't want to be in Bronze V. Do you guys have any advice?

Update: Game 7: Victory Played as Jax top vs an Olaf. I got counterpicked so i thought it was going to be rough. Turns out I won the lane fairly easily after our jungler gave him first blood. We almost lost but overall it was a really close competitive game. Luck was on my side this game as of the 10 players, the only incompetent one was the Olaf I laned against, who decided to rush warmogs and a mallet... http://matchhistory.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/#match-details/NA1/1674564207/218213590?tab=overview

Update: Game 8: Victory Enemy didn't ban fizz so I made them pay. I carried hard. I fit that entire team in my backpack. 37-10. Had someone instalock teemo first pick and then gets counterpicked and destroyed by Jayce. Bot lane doesn't do that bad but they still lose lane. I'm screaming in frustration the entire game for the team to push mid but everyone insisted on screwing around farming 50 mins in. I finally get lucky and get a good triple kill and we are able to push on and win.

No offense, but after reviewing your games, you are definitely a Bronze V to Bronze IV player. You're going to need to take time and play/practice/get experience to get out. I myself placed into Bronze 4, and, at the time, like you, thought I was above it. But, on my way to gold I've improved dramatically.

Here are some things I see that scream Bronze 5 that you can change right now.

  1. Your AP Rune Page. It's entirely messed up, should be 3 AP quints, 9 MPen Marks, 9 Armor (or health/scaling health) yellows, 9 MR Blues. You should not have 9 AD marks in an AP build, they could be hybrid pen if you're going for poking people during trades.

  2. Your CS. Needs definite work.

  3. Your build order. Particularly bad on Jarvan and Vlad. As J4 if you're picking up early kills, you need to build MORE DAMAGE to continue snowballing. Similarly, on Vlad you have a strange assortment of items-- I think you need way better build goals. You also forgot to upgrade your jungle item to warrior, even though you have the brutalizer in your inventory. So, like, there are huge mistakes there.

  4. Your excessive feeding. You have games where you feed excessively, to the point where, even if the rest of your team was doing okay, you'd make the game uncarryable. You've gotta stop feeding.

  5. Champion selection? So far you haven't gotten any good results with any of the champions you've played, Rengar comes closest probably. I think you need to pick a few champs to really focus on and get good at.

My advice is to just be honest with yourself and what you need to work on. You are a bronze 5 player at the moment, that's fine. Pick something and start improving.

I wouldn't go so far as to call him out on excessive feeding - but the runes and mastery pages are definitely at bronze level.

Counter-picking only goes so far - you've got to consider team comp and your experience. My best win rate last season was in top lane and that's the lane I played the least in the last 4 seasons. I didn't worry about counter-picking, just playing something I was comfortable with that would be decent in the team comp once team fights broke out.

Jungle dynamic has changed a lot - with those jungle changes so do lane dynamics. Early ganks aren't nearly as frequent which generally results in a lot less pressure in lanes. A jungler can easily get behind if he/she lacks sustain, especially in the early levels.

If you somehow manage to lose all 10 placements, that's very likely to be attributed to you as 10 in a row is an unlikely string of weaker performing teammates.

However, don't worry about where you place. 10 matches is a poor sample size to gauge your ability. I know that in S3, I had the luxury of having solid teammates for most of my placement only to be utterly surprised at the average level of performance in silver. Simply put, I expected players to play better than they did and I spent most of that season adjusting but it at least helped me improve my play.

If you outclass b4/b5, you should actually look forward to that kind of placement - starting low may mean more divisions to climb, but it should make winning a lot easier in general. If there was a queue guaranteed to place me with b4/b5 rated players I would play it just for fun.

Don't emphasize your teammates performance, you've got no control over it. All you can do is control how you interact with everyone. I've lost games going 16-2, 14-3 etc. I've won games where I barely kept a 1:1 kda. Focus on destroying that nexus and what is needed to get there. And don't expect players to be coordinated until you rank high enough to notice it regularly. For example, I had to stop playing Leona because when I saw openings that I knew could be won, teammates weren't either paying attention or too afraid to follow up, at least as far as bronze and low silver.

Learn things.

Finally finished my games. Won my last 4 games in emphatic fashion and I am very proud to say I am Silver IV!!!!!! I know that's still pretty far down there but it's not bronze V so I'm happy.

looking at the last 2 games, they were at awfully late hours, that's a real gamble trying to get good team mates when it's the cranky hours you did great playing a few normals and applying yourself seriously before playing ranked, try to play earlier when there is sunlight and when you're well rested, you can't be making mistakes that aren't repairable on later hours because of a sleepy head. that's all I have to say, so gl hf and happy holidays just saying this from experience from when I played league 10 hours a day

It happens man, just make sure you're staying positive as much as possible. Also find 3-4 people who play well, lanes you're not best at as well, and duo with them. I was stuck in Bronze for the longest time until I found two guys also trying to get out and we played ourselves out. Took me a awhile, but really, being almost annoying positive, telling people to focus on the game, and telling them to try to coach up their teammates helps.

oh yeah, wards, lots and lots of wards, back when there was no ward limit, my janna averaged 40-60 wards per game and I still thought it wasn't enough to give map awareness
