How to reach gold in the shortest time possible

If you are the some 70% of the players under gold it's hard to play solo q and it's hard to rack up the points to advance in this game. Now I'm not some amazing player and I'm probably not the best person to be giving advice. But I was stuck in silver for what felt like ages in season 4 and most of season 5. And I really would like to share how I got into gold. The answer is to find 2 people to dynamic with u. Now these people need to play a certain role. For me it was my friend Ben on mid, my other friend Fred at jungle, and me at supp. Then u need to find the champions you guys can influence the game with. Meaning find the champs u can coerce your teammates into certain situations on. For example my friend Ben played orianna exclusively for mid. This allowed for us to force or top laners into playing hard engage champs for her ball, or in game a good ball placement would make a teammate initiate. For me it was thresh and braum. A good hook and lantern or a good braum ult can force ur teams hand into a fight. For Fred it's Pantheon. You can guess why with people like ori and thresh. But u have to find your champ u can influence on. Now why have a supp??? And not top or ADC. Well to me a good supp can influence your ADC to make plays and can carry your lane. This all goes back to influence. Getting these guys in speak is the next step. Being able to just talk to your duo partners will keep u level headed and aware. Then u need to pick the right time of the day to play. Good lord the trolls are out after midnight don't play after midnight!!!! For real play around 7-11 PM. Learn to quit. Titling is real and it consumes all. If u lose 3 games in a row stop for night play a norm or two cool down go to bed start again tomorrow. The way to keep your points is to not blow them all because your frustrated and wanna win. Also it is so key to ban the right champs. Keep up with the patch notes and ban what's broken not what counters u. If u play enough of your champ you will learn to beat your counters. But that's really it. Just find 1 or 2 champs in that role at the f outta them and spam your way with your 2 guys to gold.

So basically your friends just sort of carried you while you played support. As for your advice on tilting and champion bans/picks are sound.

I'm not sure relying on others is necessarily practical advice. If you have friends who are better than you, sure play with them and get carried. Ideally they'll be diamond+ smurfs, and this will assuredly be the quickest route to gold.

If they're roughly the same skill as you, then great, it'll be a much more tolerable experience if you go the extra mile to be coordinated (via skype or curse or teamspeak or whatever). It won't necessarily be smooth sailing (as you'll be matched against other premades who are potentially people getting people to carry them), but it'll keep you level headed, and you'll get there eventually.

That said though, if your friends are actually worse than you, it's not necessarily in your best interests to queue with them in order to climb efficiently. While they're surely nice people (as after all they're your friend), if they're mechanically or strategically inferior, you'll just end up needing to carry their weight on top of the fact you're now facing premades who might be more mechanically able to implement their coordination. You might get there eventually, but spamming solo would probably be just as fast if not faster.

Mastering a couple champs and spamming the heck out of them is an effective way to climb regardless of if you're solo or in a group though. Being solo might 'feel' helpless at times if you get a team of uncoordinated fail, but statistically the opposing side will end up with uncoordinated fail just as often (if not more so if you're a guiding light for your team), so it's actually to your benefit.

The role you play solo is not particularly important. People give the support role a hard time, but I suspect that's often because they're bad at supporting since they think supports are just ward bots. I had no issues climbing a division+ per day as a solo support player after my placements put me in silver, and I've had smooth sailing up to gold 3 so far. If you're good at a champ/role combination, then that's the important thing.

During and after games, always try to focus on what you could have done better, and resist the urge to comment on poorly performing teammates. No matter how bad your teammates are, you yourself are not playing at a pro level, so you should always be able to find something in the game you could have done differently. This will help ensure you consistently improve (so not only will the climb to gold be easier, plat and beyond might seem achievable), and it'll also help you avoid inadvertently triggering your teammates to actively troll or do worse.

Additionally, you shouldn't play ranked if you're not feeling it. If you're tilted by a handful of losses, you should absolutely take a break, and don't discredit 'real life' tilt events as well. If you've faced frustration in RL recently, maybe cool off in normals, but if you're distracted then your ranked performance will suffer, so it's best to avoid it.

TL;DR Play dynamic queue with two others and play champions that force the rest of your team to pick champions that work well with yours, making a well balanced team that will usually win games.

My own tips:

  1. Make a sticky note of 3 champions to ban, and if you aren't banning tell your team those possible bans (nicely)
  2. Always have a pink ward on the map, 100% of the time. Encourage your team to also have one up, and even keep a spare in your invent for when someone kills yours.
  3. Back or go for an all in when you have enough for a core item. That way, if you die on the all in and when you are in base you will be able to buy your item and come to lane with an advantage. This is especially good for top and ADC.
  4. When a jungler ganks (ESPECIALLY SHACO AND EVELYNN) do not go in on your lane too early. Wait for the opponent to notice/realize before going in, that way he still probably has a large distance from his tower.
