If you're looking for a support to brute force your way to a higher ranking, then Janna probably isn't the best choice for you. As an avid support player I'd reccomend.

Braum: Captain Freljord, his base kit has really strong peel and utility defensively, as well as offensive pick potential. He's a fully fleshed out support with little to no significant weakness currently bar his longer cooldowns. He's REALLY well designed, so how to play him is very obvious from the start meaning you likely won't have growing pains learning the champion. All-in all a great champ who won't drop too far after Riot feels they've nerfed him down to size.

Thresh: The Master of SoloQ. One of the few supports currently that don't rely on their ADC for presence in lane. His early game is pretty good, his mid-game pick and peel potential is phenominal and his lategame is top notch among supports. Likely to be the #1 King of SoloQ for a long time. Reliance on hitting skillshots though mean positioning and skill are a must on the champion. He will take some time to get used to (especially his E-Flay) but once you get good, he'll take you very far.

Nami: A Fish out of Water. A top 2 support for me personally, and one of the funnest to play in my opinion. Although very squishy, her W allows her to make great trades vs. the enemy support, and turn the tide of a 4v4 all in when combined with a clutch bubble. Her bubble is an awkward skill to land, but once you get used to the missile speed and prediction of enemy movements it turns into a VERY powerful tool. Nami is a great support to use if you miss the only cast of supports from previous seasons, but don't like their current state vs. the newer tankier counterparts. Nami is a great support for all stages of the game, and will net you a great KDA if you're good at positioning.

Morgana: The Dark Horse. I hate her. I don't like playing as her or against her. She is powerful, and has the highest pickrate of any other support in SoloQ as proof. If you can land her Dark Binding, as well as time her Black Sheild on the right targets, then she's a great pick for SoloQ. No real growing pains other than getting used to the size and length of her Q (hehehe), a great quick pick up for cheap.

Other supports which are great in SoloQ, but aren't often picked: Gragas, he's basically Leona but better Leona, she's basically Gragas but tankier and easier Lulu, she has a weak early game and works well with/against dive comps Maokai, a more peel-based protective Leona Zyra, just get a sightstone and then pretend you're the 2nd mid laner. DONT MISS THE KNOCKUP!

Feel free to reply with any supports I left out or your own opinions! Glad to help another fellow wardbot/healbot/stunbot/laughbot!

Janna is one of the best, if not the best, disengage support in the game. She's more of a niche pick but she's pretty good at keeping the enemy team off of your team. I used to play a lot of Janna, but stopped recently because she's super squishy, and is better at preventing your team from being killed, than getting kills for your team.

Yes, she'll leave you and your enemies breathless.

Depends on what you're doing with her. Her ability to peel for an AD is superb and her shield guarantees that that your AD will have high lategame damage.

Many people take this to mean that they should pair Janna with a weak AD. But that is the opposite of what Janna should be doing. Janna, ideally, is in a lane where her AD counters theirs (harder the better). This allows you to negate Janna's early lane weaknesses to press a big advantage. Then you can use your move speed and slows to oppressively shut down the enemy bot lane and move to new objectives before the enemy can react. You don't have to worry about your AD falling off because your shield ensures that they have a strong lategame damage.

She is especially strong against melee assassins and champions that rely on a linear dash (Alistar, Jarvan, Vi, Leona etc) because she can Q or R them out of it. But if you're looking for a champion who will carry you by pure force alone Janna is probably not that champion.

Not really. Janna has less to bring to a team, less synergy with most carries than other supports, and just doesn't counter a lot. Her only real plus is that she adds two knock-ups for Yasuo and some crowd control. Move speed aura is nice I suppose. But really, most other supports out class her in about every way, and are easier to do well with. She's just one of those champs that doesn't fit into current game play very well. Use her as a hard counter to specific champs or to knockup for a Yasuo on your team. Otherwise, move on to better supports.

Weak solo Q but quite nice to duo with an attack speed steroid like tristana, with shield used offensively(requires the adc to make use of it) instead of defensively.

Is it possible to build up? Yes! I have gone from bronze 3 to silver 1 using almost exclusively janna. (If you doubt me check my history) She is definitely not the right support for everyone though. She relies on good timing and positioning throughout the game. One bad ultimate will hurt your team more than help it. Proper usage of shield will let you win almost any quick trade. A good howling gale will interrupt the scary leona or jarvan dash. She is also the second best (only losing to lulu) support for interrupting those crucial channel spells like death lotus. If your team is in a losing skirmish Janna can cancel it fairly easily (unlike thresh or lulu who can only help one champion escape in most cases). Unfortunately, mistiming her spells render her useless and sometimes destructive. One thing that really helps a Janna (more than most supports) is a good ADC. Janna is strong at winning trades in lane and if your carry gets fed and focused down...Janna can peel the best.
