Any point not to ban Tahm'Kench?

MyMojoBaby··12 votes·1,634 views

So I usually ban him because my friends say hes really op, but eventually, I wanted to "not ban" him just to see what exactly he has in store, i've never vsed him before.

He was 3v1ing people, and still walking out with taking 2.

I am not sure if our team comp was bad, but he was CCed during the fight, I was Amu, I snared, I ulted, Fizz and Ezrael nuked him, he ate Fizz, I Q'd him again, he spat fizz out, and finished her of with a tongue lash. Ez's damage felt so small (he did the largest from the stats on graph at the end)

Basically, we could kill baron faster than we could kill him and receive less damage.

He's the type of champ I would like to find a counter to and every time I see one, just absolutely crush him, and make him QQ to rito. How can Tahm be killed quickly? How can you prevent him from doing so much damage?

Reasons not to ban TahmKench:

  • You're first picking him

Yeah that's about it.

why did you focus all the cc on tahm

Troiann5 votes

If you don't he walks up to your adc and just three hits him.

Well he said it was a 3v1. If you're fighting Tahm on his own there's nobody better to be using the CC on and given he won that fight against three people, I think the crowd control use was justified.

Vayne does well vs him. With true damage, percent health damage, A tumble to dodge lick and self peel with condemn, she can do fairly well.

A Miss Fortune5 votes

Who doesn't Vayne do well against

3ofGot40ve2 votes
  • Outranged by caityln

  • Outbursted by Draven

  • Ashe permaslow and hard cc makes tumbling non-existant

A Miss Fortune2 votes

Doesn't she counter all 3 of those ADCs lol.

Caitlyn outranges her but Vayne's tumble and passive/ult lets her easily dodge Caitlyn's E and get close enough (Caitlyn only has 100 more range, which isn't that much for a Vayne with 500 MS) . Vayne outscales Caitlyn super hard even if she does bad early game.

Draven is a good counter but Vayne's condem lets her push Draven away from his axes and she can dodge half of his kit with one tumble.

And Ashe isn't really that good.

There is no true counter vs Tahm, it's skill based lane when player need to know how to poke him, and how to not be eaten cuz he can throw you into creep wave and it hurts. Either pick a high sustain champion, or high ranged hero. Some dashes are nice to see as Tahm slow is very painful.

The only way to really deal with Tahm is to have a lot of % hp based damage on your team. He gets damage for building HP, so naturally he's going to be building a lot of HP when possible.

He definitely is pretty damn broken, he's worth continuously banning, I do unless I'm going to play him.

Vayne Shyvana Ekko Elise Malzahar Maokai Zac Fiora Varus

Just literally any champions who will do a % of his hp in damage to him, preferably several of them.

maokai is not really a good pick at all.

Unless you're playing in master/challenger, maokai works just fine if you understand how to play the champion. Not much choice for % HP damage in the top lane anyway.

Really? I just bought him and am having a lot of fun with him. Granted its only been 4 games, but i havent lost one yet :3

I play a decent bit of Elise but unless that Tahm is severely underfed there is no way I'm jumping onto him as her.

The only reason you shouldn't be banning tahm kench is because he's getting played less, unlike stuff like mundo who can do the same thing he does damage wise (bar the utility).

If you want a hard counter to tahm (since you said crush him I'm assuming you mean in lane) there is none. He builds full tank and outdamages just about everything except late game sated yi. You cannot poke him, because he sustains it. You cannot all in him, because he has a second health bar. Overall there's absolutely nothing you can do is pray the guy playing him is far worse than you.

HoboMcJoe2 votes

He's strong, but your friends seem to be making him out to be some unbeatable hypercarry. Picks such as vayne can kite him fairly well with a good player, and percent hp damage will shred him. Even if you think he is super strong, the last nerf brought his playerbase down so you probably don't have to ban him 24/7 if there is something else you want to ban that might be more fitting.

MLDzXnRRR2 votes

I've seen often Tahm supports to get quadra kills. You focus his team, he kills everyone in the end. You also have to 3v1 to kill him...

Shikigami1 votes

You need to kite him. Keep distance between you and him and he can't do anything. The lick thing is super easy to dodge if you don't put yourself near a wall (walls limit dodge angle). Once he gets close, you need to focus all of your time on running, if you try to fight him he'll take a large chunk of your hp and kill you or even just let his team finish you. In lane, his W hurts a lot if he maxes it, but it costs a lot of mana. So if you see he's maxing W, just let him waste it on tossing creeps around. If he's not maxing W, you can try to land some good poke once you have minion advantage or abuse range if you have it.

Vayne kindred and brand

Nasically anything with % hp damage

Ez can kite tanks easily but he cannot kill them

Bears Dont Care1 votes

vayne, kindred, brand, yi with botrk+devourer, Shyvana. You need to deal percent health damage to him and th ebest counter are champions like the above.

Drehirth1 votes

vayne, and kalista are the champions I hate having to deal with the most as kench because they can kite you forever. Fiora can duel him pretty easily too. I also hate when there is a morgana on the enemy team. I only play him as support though so i'm not sure if you are asking about just a lane counter or teamfighting...

Omniphonic1 votes

yorick counters him pretty well, his minions get in the way of the tongues. you might not always be in a position to be able to play yorick, but he's a good counter to a lot of champs that are otherwise pretty strong.

I don't ban tahm all the time just because I play zyra support and have found that it does very well against him. You can kite him at a distance while harrassing with your abilities and if he goes in to try and eat you, you have ulti and can either run or use it to get away safely with the knock up. There's methods of playing around him as well, but it takes a lot of focus and is very easy to make mistakes so I can see why he's banned.

Zedex1 votes

Preventing him from doing damage is very simple. You stay the hell away from him and don't nuke him as your teammates did. Chances are the enemy will clean you up by then. You had an Ezreal, Tahm should be crying as he can't catch Ezreal.

Xenomancers1 votes

Urgot I've had good success with against Tham. Mainly because once you get double dorians the only thing you need to be concerned about is getting swallowed. And even if you are swallowed you can make him pay for it and your sheild will probably save you. Urgot has the right tools too beat him and he counters some of his shenanigans late game to be preventing his escapes.

EvilMerodach1 votes

Maybe just vs a bad tahm...but I played fiddle and having a double, fairly immoble health bar to drain off of was nice... So..uh..maybe if you're someone with a lot of lifetap and have problems getting into the backline to use it...you'd want to not ban tahm so you have a good target to heal off of? lol

I sometimes don't ban Kench when I just want to troll my team by letting him through.

Poppy should be a decent counter. Maybe not so much in lane but during teamfights.

If Tahm ults in with his carry, Poppy can just time her ult just right to knock them back out of the fight.

Poppy also has %health damage of up to 12% per completed Q.

If Tahm gobbles up one of your teammates, try to pop your W to maneauver around him and then E him back towards your team to save your gobbled teammate. Or at the same measure, If he gobbles up one of his own teammates to save them, W to get ahead of him and E him back into your team while he still has his teammate.

Both scenarios work just as well if you stun TK against a wall just so long as your team has enough room to catch up.

I've only faced a couple of TK's top. You can't do too much to win lane vs him but again, she's decent as a counter in teamfights.

Varus An AP/mid varus (^_^) could most likely do some work vs Tahm.

If TK ults in, you can do some heavy cc vs him and whoever he's bringing with him with Varus' ult.

Varus also deals disgusting amounts of %health damage if you are pure AP. Disgusting. I'm talking like 30% per 3 stacks of blight around mid game.

Varus' Q is good vs TK trying to save an ally since he probably will still end up regurgitating his ally within varus' Q range.

You'll still need some peel-oriented champions on your side to make anything happen XD

I would like to hear what you guys think about Tahm Kench. I don't know why all the hate toward Tahm when there's so much absurdly broken champions out there.

His weakness is obvious, and his damage isn't that great. Sure he has somewhat of a decent damage if he make the fight persist and if he can catch up with you, but he has 0 mobility, no dashes, no MS boost, low base MS..

His light CC is a skillshot and his heavy CC require a set up, if he harras you with devour using a minion he loses his best damage source and even then still a skillshot. He doesn't have a ult and don't have the tools to burst you.

Summarizing:

  • Low Mobility;
  • Can't burst;
  • Skillshot reliant;
  • Can be countered with poke;
  • Need AS to be useful;
  • If he can't reach you he's a sitting duck;
  • Long casting on his Ult ( Can't surprise the enemy );
  • No sustain ( Shield doesn't count since he only regain % of what he lost );

I think most of the problem comes when players try to burst Tahm in one go, using all their Cooldowns and having to fight him on their most vulnerable state. Once you understand that his shield is the last Skill players upgrade and even at lvl 5 doesn't heal him that much, they will understand that ranged poke is the way to go rather than 1x1 burst him.
