The new map is not as fun as it looked

Just as the title says, I enter the game, i feel excited for the map, but what happens next made me feel so much anger that i never thought i'd have for league. Being colorblind isn't fun, and when you face a void Illaoi and ALL of her particle effects literally blend in with the map (I can't see where her tentacle hit range is, and how wide is her E snare, and can't see her bloody tentacle when she ults because they have no health bars) you just question why do they do this? Please give us an option to turn it off. any champion with purple-blue-ish particle effects are literally invisible for me, they blend in with the ground WAY too much. PLEASE let me turn the map off, or if there is a way, someone tell me how to.

Some comments I see: "It's too bright." "It gives me a headache." "I can't see it."

Totally valid complaints, guys, don't get me wrong. But it... hurts to read these. When for the longest time people complained and said that Riot doesn't care about its players and they need to make a winter map with snow. And people tried to explain why that might not work, because of certain skins or colorblind people, and they'd just be mercilessly downvoted.

I know it's hopefully not the same people, but it just fills me with salt that Riot can never do anything without a large group of players complaining. Like I said, these are totally VALID complaints. And OP has a point. But just.. why is every thread having to be a complaint. Damned if they do something and damned if they don't.

This is why they should make it an optional thing, where you can opt-in in the settings. After all, it is just a skin meaning that it is just effecting the way things are rendered and seen, it shouldn't effect anything else (and if it does, someone has done something wrong somewhere in the code, which wouldn't surprise me).

Like, most of the people asking for the winter map were also asking for the option to use the winter map, not necessarily for the map to be forced on people if they didn't want it.

Probably not possible to do right now, it would have to be a client option and they'd have to add new menus and behind-the-scenes stuff for it. Once the new client is released for real and they start to add new features this is definitely something they should consider though.

Thats the thing, I was using the old client (I opted out of the new client, like almost as soon as i got it, back before its public release, wayyyy to buggy for my low end machine, forced queue dodging isn't fun). And I didn't update/relaunch the client at all. One game I'm on the original SR and then the next game bam, winter. If it was changed just like that without any patches, why shouldn't I be able to switch it back just like that aswell?

It's most likely server side. Riot can flip a switch and give everyone the winter map without the client having to update, but the end user has no way of changing that themselves. They'd have to add the architecture, UI and so on to allow us to change it on our end, but they're not adding new features until the new client is released for real.

That is a good point. The thing is Riot may not know about this, we don't know how you see the things.

The good solution to this would be to switch whole game to colorblind mode, not only health bars.

Exactly, there used to be an option to turn on monochrome if i remember correctly. Basically make the whole game black and white like you're dead. And ironically enough i saw her particles when i was dead- but you can guess thats not really helping me a lot. ANd seriously, a toggle for the winter/normal map would be just fine. I didn't even relaunch the client to get the new map, just let me chose which one i'd see, there's absolutely no gameplay/mechanic value of the map...

Oooh, you are talking about new winter map, I get it now! I was not playing today so I did not know that it is on live servers already. Yeah, then, I mean there should be an option to change it to it's original format. If this causes you trouble they should work on this, because it disadvantages you and the minority of colorblind players. And it's a big issue which should and must be answered immediately. I hope they will fix this asap and you will play normally again.

Or i could just uninstall league and go into dota 2. I heard update 7.0 came out and stuff. Or just reinstall ICCup and go back to warcraft 3 and the one game I loved before league and dota 2 even came out.

Seriously though, the games impossible to play for me, I legit hope RIOT does something about this, because not seeing the enemy spells is just not fun. I imagine any Blue/purple elementalist lux (Which i see like every game if she doesn't get banned) will be my bane.

I'm personally not color blind so this is just an honest question, does colorblind mode not help? Or is it that you're deficient to a color that it doesn't help with?

Colorblind Mode is a great feature and does help me a little with certain aspects of the UI, healthbars, etc. but it doesn't change any particle effects or anything. That's the real problem for me. :(

I imagine that if Arthur's similarly afflicted, he might have a similar problem distinguishing the particle/spells' colors from the background/map's colors.

I really hoped people would understand thats a joke by the "Seriously though", but alas, joked dont travel over the internet easily. As for colorblind mode, the ONLY thing it changes is the healthbars and in fact the spell range too. But ironically enough colorblind mode failed to help me with this.

Edit: The colors of my screen isn't exactly the issue I think. The fact that the particles are WAY TOO CLOSE to the terrain which makes them blend in is.

That's what I'm getting at. If it's a particular color in the particles that you're having trouble seeing is there a third party program that you can run that changes those specific colors to something different so that you can distinguish them more easily?

If not, that's something a company could probably make that would help a lot of people.

Just for reference could you post a screen shot of the particles you're talking about? I don't have access to the new map skin.

I love the new map skin, but I'm also colorblind and the blue/grey/white(?) background makes it very difficult to see. I was going to start my own thread to get a pulse on whether anyone else was having this issue, but then I found this thread.

The brightness doesn't bother me so much, and I really appreciate the Riot team making an awesome new skin with little quirks and adorable Poros, but it would be really great if there were a way to opt out of using the map for us colorblind folks.

EDIT: In particular, it's the particle effects that are white, blue, and purple (such as Lux's and Nami's) that I'm having the hardest time seeing.

Exactly what I'm having. I play normal games to have fun and relax, but when you can't see a purple Illaoi smacking her tentacles around... You just won't have fun. Kind of defeats the purpose of the game.

As for the brightness: I have no issues with it, just the whole color scheme.

Sorry my post was pretty ignorant cause I don't play any of Blizzard's games. My friend however does and is colour blind. He told me that for Overwatch they have NUMEROUS colour blind modes so I assumed they had it for everyone.

Blizzard is very good at refinement and polish, so colorblind modes would be included in that. So I suppose in isolation, blizzard may be better on that front.

But blizzard games are now all flash and budget with no content, thought or gameplay depth. Examples: diablo 3, especially on release, sc2's downhill free fall since lotv (design issues), hearthstone face is the place. Heroes of the storm is the most brain dead "no responsibility no one loses" bullshit ever. Can't speak for WoW, overwatch I've heard is very superficial and designed mostly for kids.

So ya while riot may not have the polish of blizzard, at least the GAME is there. I guess to each is own on what's actually better, but riot is VERY refreshing coming from mostly blizzard games.

While I don't like Hearthstone, HOTS and SC2, I think WoW, Overwatch and Diablo 3 are all amazing games. Also, how is Overwatch mostly designed for kids while it actually have an in game voice chat and doesn't bat an eye on flaming, while league is doing it's best to make sure Riot is regularly going full nazi mode on anything "bad word" related, and refuses to implement a voice chat "because reasons". If anything, League is way more targeted towards children than Overwtach, not that targeting something towards children is even in any way a bad thing. I mean, just look at the demographics of the target group and actual players of CoD and Splatoon.

It has to happen before they can fix it, it's dumb as hell to get the torches and pitchforks out over something like this. They cannot fix a problem that so far has only affected one person that's buried at a low rating in the gameplay boards just three hours after it was reported.

Umm it's already happened numerous times. I myself am not colour blind but Rito does a pretty bad job at supporting colour blind people. I have 2 pals who are colour blind and they tell me about stuff they find extremely difficult to see. Both of them are red green colour blind and theirs nothing out there to help em.

I think a huge company such as Rito should have already covered the colour blind base because most of it is recolouring abilities and textures. I believe it's fair to have my torches and pitchforks out.

It's like going to a 5-star hotel but none of the showers have little shampoo bottles, WTF

I am not saying it isn't a problem. I'm saying that it isn't worth getting mad about.

Before you type what you're about to type, there is a difference between an outrage parade and submitting a complaint. Easy stuff tends to get solved fast through the proper channels.

I personally don't care about this issue whatsoever. "DOESN'T SUPPORT COLORBLIND PEOPLE" being typed in all caps like a mediocre click bait headline annoyed me. That is all.

I'm not sure if my friends get mad when they are unable to see any abilities cause I only play chill normals with them. I know I'd be frustrated and annoyed if I couldn't see abilities like Nidalee's spear or something. I'm not sorry for annoying you though. If anything I'd say you yourself shouldn't get annoyed when you read something typed out in all caps.

Upvoted, my friend can't even play league right now because of the map mode. Maybe we could send in support tickets for colorblind concerns? The guy struggles with TF's cards too.
