Totally random ping spikes

So I have a pretty good computer, I've been playing League on it for three years, and never had this problem. But recently, I was playing and all of a sudden my ping went up to 140 ms (I usually get like 32) out of nowhere, and this had never happened before. I asked everyone in game if they were having problems, they all said no, so I thought it was my computer.

Then, I started playing with friends I go to high school with and they were all experiencing the exact same ping spikes and frame drops that I was at the same time. It would be 140 ms for maybe 75 percent of the time and then 32 for the rest. I live in Western Maryland and I'm wondering if maybe it's a regional thing that is making this happen, and when/how it will stop.
