What keeps you coming back to League?

So I played this game for around 6 months (maybe less, maybe more) and then stopped playing a month or two ago, It felt pretty stale after a while and the community is literally the worst (but I still love you guys) [katarina-love]

It was fun while it lasted, but eventually I was just getting frustrated, so I decided to take a break for like a week, and I ended up not coming back. I still enjoying watching the game and I am a huge fan of the pro-leagues.

To the people who still love and play this game, why do you continue to play it/ how do you keep it "fresh"? To the people such as myself (if any are reading these boards), what made you walk away from the game?

Easy to play of a basic level, plenty of champions and lores to keep me engaged. I've only ever been a casual player so that's more than enough to keep me satisfied, I consistently get my daily bot game bonus and occasionally play PvP with the lads if they're around. It seemed to surprise a friend that now hates League that he only started hating League after he got into ranked and played hours a day even when he didn't want to because it was all about your rank and that bollocks. This exact same process has happened to plenty of people but they never put the two together and just blame the game.

Eager for Nexus Blitz to come back for the casual bants, or better yet Dominion but I know that'll never happen.

I Keep coming Back to see what riot decides to do with all the wasted potential that is Mordekaiser.

I took a break for awhile. I play because I don't want to miss out on anything exclusive that you won't be able to get anytime else but I still hate how the game has changed so much from what I've loved.

And that Riot keeps making horrible changes as well.

As others have said, it's fun as hell with friends, and while some people CAN enjoy it without, the solo grind isn't fun for everyone. Get 4 other guys in a Discord, queue up, start laughing, profit.

Skins, the unlimited number of possible "chess-like" scenarios to winning, the "lure" of prestige rewards, and the dynamic challenge of challenging one's self to improve.

It's not a game for people who are not confident in themselves, and blame a game for their inadequacies.

I kinda stopped coming back. I used to play League a couple games a day for years. Started at the end of season 1 when a bunch of my friends were playing it. Around season 3 my friends all dropped it, but I stuck around because it was fun learning new tricks and mastering my handful of favorites. New skins were coming out and even putting up with the constant changes wasn't bad because it kept things fresh and (almost) nothing impacted my ability to have fun with the champs I liked. I even stuck around through all of my favorite champions being relaunched - Karma, Evelynn, Katarina, Fiora, and now Akali.

But it does really suck to feel like all the mastery you've earned over literal years of effort have been pointless because the champion is changed and gone forever. There's not even some kind of legacy server to play the older versions. It's how it has to be with competitive games like this. But that's really the only thing that sapped the fun out of League for me over the years.

Then Fate/Grand Order got an English release and I've hardly played in the last year. My friends play it too and we're on a Discord group so we can coordinate for events and stuff. The community is a lot of fun, probably only because there is no PvP so everyone is really chill. And there is a ton of cooperation with server-wide events we all help each other out with. None of my friends will play League anymore so having that community made it hard to come back to League.

Now I only sign in once every couple months because I still don't want to have my account deleted (I did spend quite a bit of money for skins back in the day). I just played an ARAM game for the first time in months. It was pretty fun, but it just didn't suck me in like it used to. I'd still like to come back and play more regularly but honestly I'm not even sure what Riot could do to make that happen. So I'll keep checking the Boards and Reddit every now and then and maybe someday I'll see something that makes me want to come back.

I took a month off and it made all the difference. People are still mouth-breathing simpletons, I'm just a lot less bothered by it now. The time away is helpful.

Boredom.

I burnt out on my other games. Waiting for the new doom, shadows, nioh 2 and shadows die twice. Might try the new battlefield when it goes on sale. So lol is mainly a time sink now

I left for good, but still write on the forums because fighting a propaganda war against a bloated, one product company is pretty fun sometimes.

The reasons why I haven't quite league yet are that I'm invested heavily in the lore of the game, not just the gameplay, and all the friends I have who play this game. There may be a lot of parts of this game that kind of suck but they suck a lot less when encountered with friends.

ThePerson7610/24/2018, 3:41:24 PM1 votes

It's still fun. Not super fun, but better than sitting around doing nothing. Also repeatability. If I find a more fun game, I'll straight up stop playing until I get bored of that game. The last few weeks I've been playing Path of Exile, which is a great game, and haven't touched league.

I've never really stepped away from the game, maybe shortened the amount of time time playing on a daily basis, but never truly stepped away from the game. League is fun, especially when you have four other friends you can play with. I continue to play League mainly because my friends play it, and because it is at its core a fun game.

AXayahAccount10/24/2018, 2:05:01 AM1 votes

I play this game to play Xayah, that is it., if she becomes obscure or bad or something that ruins her I am quitting out of this game.

I already lost my main for that exact reason during the adc patch when most adcs became worthless, I just stopped caring and trolled and was a bad person.

I actually stopped playing early this year. I had just moved and I was spending a lot of time hanging out with my best friend / new roommate, playing console games instead of playing on my computer. After a while that kind of got old so he started watching series on Netflix and I retreated back into League. I never really got tired of the game itself, but it was more social to do something else.

I also didn't really have anyone else to play with on League, and I actually started duo-ing with a friend from when I was growing up.

Not to make it a "poor me" tale, but once again I'm back to not playing with friends as often anymore, but I still enjoy the game.

So for me, what makes it less fun, or what has the potential to make something else more fun is the idea of being able to be more social.

As far as gameplay goes, I personally enjoy how much the game changes and the potential to adapt champions, runes, items, combinations to different situations. Exploring those possibilities and challenging myself to improve in my own skill, .. despite the fact that I still suck, .. is also part of the fun.

I keep coming back because there are still things about the game that I like, and it can still be really fun if you're playing with fun people.

But I stopped being a consistent player a long time ago. Riot started reworking champions that I loved, gutting off meta things like AD Malzahar. And then they just got overly focused on esports while forgetting about everything else. I think the last straw for me was when they removed Dominion, and by extension, Hide and Seek(Did anyone else here play that?). Yeah the Crystal Scar was super buggy. But if they had taken the time to even try to do anything with it in the first place, we'd still have Dominion. But nope. All they care about now is Summoner's Rift these days. And even that's going downhill because everything revolves around the ADC now. Just had a game where my teammates and I did really well, but our Vayne died a couple of times early on and their MF snowballed out of control and we lost. The results of a team game shouldn't depend on just one stupid role.

shuffle the deck play a different champion, different role, new runes, brainstorm wild builds (not for the 'ranked' of heart) basically steer clear of ranked for the most part :) plus I'm super competitive and I stick to games for years (madden, nba, etc)
