What is better, 3 infinity edges or 1 infinity edge, 1 phantom dancer, and 1 static shiv?

Now, I am asking what is better between the TWO.... not what is better than those two.

Latter. Scaling stats (AS and Crits) is how you hyper carry late game, regardless. Flat stats (Infinity Edge's high AD value) is most impactful early, SOMETIMES mid game.

1 IE, 1 PD, 1 SS.

Although it has the same crit chance and lower AD, the fire rate multiplies the crit damage like crazy.

3 Infinity Edges kind of falls into the 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 = 8 trap of stat scaling, where with IE + PD + Shiv you get the 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 = 16 scaling. AD, AS, Crit, Armor pen, and life steal all grow exponentially together, where any single stat in that group only grows linearly with iteself. As 16 > 8, you can logically deduce grabbing a variety of different items is going to win out vs. stacking the same thing over and over again. Especially with unique passives being unique.

Granted, IE is a really powerful item due to being 3800 gold: but 3 IE's is also considerably more expensive than the IE + PD + SS build. IE + PD + SS is exactly 1 Last Whisper cheaper, 2300 gold, due to the rather massive price difference between IE and PD/SS.

Really important to consider cost, as it plays a massive roll in what point in the game you can hit your item spikes. Also you'll only see ~11,000 gold in an average game, so coming up with a build you can complete during a typical game is also nice.
