Idea: Buying items for your turret

We all know the dire situation turrets are currently in, and they really need some buffs. So here is my proposition, get rid of the current "items" turrets have, as those are just there for clarity on what turrets do. Then basically, either you can buy and item for your turret to beef it up or possibly do more damage. Or, it could even work that the turret gains gold itself and you use a special section of the shop to buy it, kind of like the silver serpents for GP but the turret collects them from enemies dying around it. How do you feel about this? Feedback is appreciated!\

EDIT: To clear up some confusion turrets wouldn't be able to get player items. There would be a special category for turret items. Example: Turret can't get warmogs

Buying warmog for tower and have him gain the passive... yum

No no no, these would be special items for the turret, non player items. So a special set of items would be introduced. Players would not get turret items, turrets can't get player items

I feel this would lead to frustrating gameplay. When as a laner you go through the game trying to get a tower than it gets random buffs. I think towers should be consistent.

So like, an item that makes it so that the turret fires slightly faster? Gains resistances or health?

Yes, would either give more dmg or resistance. I feel additional resistance would be too much, so probably health and no resistance items.

Probably would muddle the game mechanics too much. (Though it might work in Nexus Siege)

If your turrets had items, what happens to them when the turrets finally fall? Investing money into towers that are going to fall, will feel like a trap. Also, if your going to have items on turrets, your going to balance them around scaling. Which is likely going to leave them more vulnerable in the early game. (And I though people had a problem with early game snowballing)

"Or, it could even work that the turret gains gold itself" You wouldn't be investing your gold in it.

A special currency then? How do you earn it? What happens when the turret dies-do you basically lose your upgrades? Could this lead to all the players buffing one turret to the point it couldn't be sieged (probably mid)? Can I sell turret items? Can my allies sell my turret items I already placed?
