Why Snowballs ruined ARAM

I waited to post my own forum about the snowballs in ARAM, because I wanted to give it a fair chance before giving my opinion. I am Silver 3, and i havent played ranked in about 4 months prior to this last month because i knew i needed more practice. The ways that I accomplished these, were playing Twisted Tree line(For map awareness), Playing Vs Bots on Summoners rift(For Creep Score) And ARAM for practicing different roles in team fights. Which actually helped me more than anything else. I learned how to position good as an APC and ADC, I learned how to peel and kite, also i learned how to be a front line. I was forced to get better, but now having the Snowball summoner gives a whole different meaning to this. I feel im not even playing league of legends anymore when Im in ARAM.

I feel I truly get worse at the game because I was either given a free engage on a champion who was never meant to be there in that position. I.E Braum. Its similar to getting a free teleport without any delay or reaction time. Ya, sure you can dodge them, but when there are 5 snowballs on top of all the skill shots, it just becomes a chance game, and sooner or later those pieces are going to fall together. And for some champs like Amumu, Wukong, all that is needed is one snowball, and instantly perfectly team position. If they flash, or do something to get that, then good for them. But the beauty in those plays is that they are risky, and when you pull them off, it was worth the risk, but if you dont, you are on a huge cooldown.

I hope everyone feels somewhat similar to this, or atleast understand where i am coming from. I think it was fun when it was an event and with the poro king, but please dont ruin ARAM with this permanent change.

I see where you are coming from but I also don't agree with you, I had not played ARAM months and came back to it a few weeks ago and found everyone throwing snowballs are each other. At first, I felt confused as to why riot would add such a weird summoner skill to ARAM as it is chaotic enough as it is, but as I have been playing multiple games a day I realize that it is indeed a great addition. First of all, you can't just hit the snowball and dash to the enemy whenever you want because if your team is at your turret and you dash into their whole team close to their turret that's an instant death for you unless you're tanky (or Katarina). They also act as "wards" since you don't have to face check every bush anymore, because when you do that against assassins like master yi or kat, you don't often get a chance to make it out of that bush or if you do its with very low health. Also, and this is my biggest reason for liking this, its a great gap closer for you when you are facing against champions like Nidalee who cam stay at a distance and continue to harass you with her spear. ARAM might not feel the same anymore and it does feel like it has changed, but if you ask me, I'd say it has changed for the better.

I never thought of it like that. I guess im just frustrated, but i guess if its for the sake of making more people want to come to aram, thats great. ARAM use to just be my "break" game, but now its more stressful than anything lol. oh well. i guess its time to adapt. :) thanks for the feedback

Yeah ARAM is still my "break" game because the that map is just so much fun to play for even when we are loosing + you only need that one "ace" to turn the whole game around which is also something the snowballs can help you with. You're welcome GLHF

They got the chance to test it during SnowDown. They got the chance to test it two patches ago. They got to test their damage change this patch. They now get to test their cooldown and range change.

The Point is the balancing team should be refining it on test server not testing and the unfinished product on live.
That isn't professional they should be embarrassed of this as a business. (Only Comcast does that kind of garbage.)

It was supposes to be a gap closers (period)

INSTEAD:

  1. It scouts bushes.
  2. Makes you immune to globals like (Karthus's Ult)
  3. Its an epic escape for ranged if you mark a creep behind you before you engage the enemy team in front of you (*poof escaped).
  4. Its a distance closer to get to YOUR tower faster.
  5. It helps grieving player to feed that much faster to end a game.
  6. Hell, in a game I was in champs like Vlad used it to jump to the group Tides of Battle and Hemoplague and Troll pooled away scott free (no damage to him). I did similar with Talon.

The problem is Mark and Dash is being used for something other than it was meant for.

Sooooooo many players have told Riot balancing team this. But they don't get it. It is absolutely amazing how much they don't understand their own game.

They just keep squeaking out a new version.

And players are still exploiting it rather than using it for what it is meant for. A GAP CLOSER.

I just feels like some game tech playing a tank was butt hurt because he hadn't played the game long enough to have patience in what already is a very tank heavy game.

Well said.

Not reading that block of letters.

Snowball is a great addition. But they overshot it like sending an astronaut to Pluto when you meant to go to the international space station.

It should be a niche spell. Not the all-mighty spell only newbs don't take.

If you arent going to read, then dont post. Everything is a good point he has, SNOWBALLS CHANGED THE GAME. Great points, and i totally agree.

At least he separated it into paragraphs.

Have you seen some of the walls of texts on this site? This is readable, this is fine.

It didn't start that way.

Then he changed it to be even better. They're learning.

Maybe the snowballs shouldnt be removed, but i do agree. Its still too chaotic. They should make a balanced summoner that u can even use on Summoners Rift. i know the purpose was because you cannot flank in ARAM map, but free engages on that CD is just too much to even play anymore. I love ARAM, but not this.

I really don't like how it is at the moment, but the change on the PBE (that going to happen tonight) should make it much better.

For those that don't know the change, the cooldown is going to be 40 seconds instead of 20 seconds and the range has been cut in half.

The range is now this:

I think snowballs changed the game into a different game. It should be kept as a seperate play mode. But it will never be normal again. It would be nice to branch it off give it a new name. snowball fight. or something.
