Isn't S rank a bit too hard to get on some champions ?

Hi everyone, i'm Repliku, i've been playing Sona since S1 on EUW, so you can understand that i would love to have this shiny blue mastery emote on her.

The main issue is that i don't get at all what the game expects you to do to have an S.

This is a 4v5 game (Kindred ragequit) that i still managed to play almost perfectly. http://matchhistory.euw.leagueoflegends.com/en/#match-details/EUW1/2673499638/27054617

And this is a game where my friend and i litteraly crapped on everything http://matchhistory.euw.leagueoflegends.com/en/#match-details/EUW1/2678156877/27054617

The first "only" got S- and the second got A+

I have the feeling that the game doesn't judge your performance as a support the right way, especially when said support knows alternate ways to be played as a carry (Sona, Lulu for example).

I might be wrong though, maybe 4/0/13 before 22 min is a bad score for a Sona, and 3 cs isn't enough even though you are not expected to farm. I don't mind knowing what i'm doing wrong according to LoL, i don't mind improving.

Could i have some insight from a player that would be knowledgeable about the rating system ? Or even a red, that would be cool too.

Thank you for reading me and for your answers.

it's based off of how well other people have played sona. also participation in total team kills(how many assists you have), how many deaths you have, if you're warding like you should be, and participation in objectives(towers, dragons, and baron.)

You'll notice i have the highest kill participation in the second game, + i can guarantee i was on every objective and my warding did the job.

I don't really know what to improve about these points.

You are a good Sona player, however, rarely the best...?

You have to remember the a couple grades beneath you is a average, so move 5 kills over to deaths, walk in jungle for 5min, and that's about average.

Thank you for your answer, but i didn't really understand what you said.

Your grade is matched against other Sona players in that role.

The game grades your based on your percentile performance relative to all player on that particular champion in that particular role. The particular role part of that means that some champs that can be flexed to multiple roles are still graded fairly (so support lulu is graded separately from solo lane lulu's).

You're not just graded compared to your team in given match, or against any particular numbers, it's all relative to the community on the wholes performances on that champ/role combo, so even two identical performances can give different grades at different times potentially.

Lots goes into your grade though, not just kda/cs. Warding (both placing and clearing) is a factor, as well as objective participation and kill participation and probably other stuff too. It's not to say that you need any one of those things in particular (since again you're only being compared to others in that role, and so for example as a support you wouldn't need much cs), but theres a lot that makes up 'performance'.

The being compared to all performances thing can make meta picks (particularly high elo meta picks) require some pretty amazing performances to manage S ranks as a result. Sometimes you can have the best game of your life and feel like a god, only to discover your performance was 'only' an A+, simply because there are other people doing everything you did and more.

I do find longer games are easier to get S ranks in compared to surrender at 20 matches. There's probably various reasons for that, the simplest being it simply gives you more time to snowball increasingly hard to make your performance all the more impressive in the big picture.

I all ready opened around 10 chests, and disenchanted everything, still no 500 blue essence :(

Get a champ ppl rarely use, and bam, you get S for days XD.

Popular champs typically are harder to get S with, unless it is your main main

It's affected by how well other people play the champ. Even if you did do well, there are other people doing even better.
