Reworks and "updates" -- I'm done before even coming back
I typed up a response that ended up being almost 2,000 words in MS Word--not going to subject anybody to that so Ive cut it down.
Since March 2010 I've been playing League; had the usual on-and-off again relationship throughout, breaking to play other games for a month or two at a time before returning. My last game was sometime in July (I believe)--just came back after these 5 months and updated the game while reading the patch notes. I promptly uninstalled and will not be coming back. These 5 months without league have been the easiest ever, and with Blizz coming out with new great updates and products, its a no brainer.
The biggest reason? Champion reworks and updates. I get it, you need to keep the game "fresh", right? God forbid anyone get attached to any champ they've been playing for xxx amount of time. Anybody who has been playing league for more than a season knows that eventually, the champ you love is going to get hit with something (nerfbat, update/rework, or rarely a buff). There are pros and cons to this, but overall the minor tweaks that are made are enough to keep the game from getting stale.. though I doubt it ever would truly get stale as it's the pvp that keeps it fresh because its never the exact same game, even if all the champs manage to be the same.
The number 1 rule to a rework should be this: If a rework completely changes a champions playstyle, then just make a new champion (or do nothing). Rarely does any good come out of this for anyone who mains a champ that gets gutted--its a slap in the face.
I've lost several mains over the years (that is, refuse to play) after a completely game-altering update to their kit. Sure, sometimes an update isn't bad, and the champion still feels the same.. like Xin, that was a rework at least done partially right. He still felt like Xin. Then we have updates like Annie and her new bear mechanics which, I didn't really care for, and I wouldn't call it a good update, but it didn't make me not want to play Annie. But then we have some shit like what you did with Shaco. OK. He isn't the same champion anymore, I don't care how you try to spin it. And what it up with always talking about filling a niche role or whatever and then just ignoring it? He already did feel a niche role.. anyway, that was the final straw. I do not care if you buff his numbers to be more OP than release Xin Zhao. Why? Because you shit on a play style that I loved. Everyone has their champion that makes the game fun, not the other way around, and that's gone now.
This isn't the first time----I've went through this three other times with mains and major reworks that just made me completely drop the champ, and many other smaller updates/reworks that didn't completely butcher it for me. This however is the final straw; if your job is out to take something fun and make it completely unfun, well, you managed to do it!
Also, something that's bothered me for years... for anyone who has been playing since pre-update Nasus (2013 I think?) and remembers his old VO.. The original Nasus was done by Gene McDaniels, who died in 2011, only to have Riot replace the VO during an update.. which why ? I'm still ticked about that one, and who would approve that? Old Nas voice was probably one of the most beloved VO in all of league then, and the fact that Gene is no longer with us.. total slap in the face. If you haven't heard it, check it out, most of us players were able to enjoy it for 3-4 years before the abrupt change.
There are a few other non-ability specific changes that have been asinine as well.... too many to list but just a few: items removed, even some that were deemed weak, too many "unique" flags on items these days, certain voice overs and changing/adding lines etc.
Anyway, back to OW and Legion.
