Can Riot please address the Dynamic Queue issue of always getting support if it's secondary choice?

dr zoidberg esq·2/4/2016, 6:32:06 PM·39 votes·12,746 views

I've seen many threads complaining about this issue: If you select fill or support as your secondary role, you will get support the vast majority of the time. I play support, but it's not my main and I don't want to play it EVERY game. But I've not seen a single Riot thread or announcement addressing this issue. It's like this is not even on their radar. Can someone from Riot please just acknowledge this issue and give their thoughts? Do you care? Are you working on fixing it?

Maybe compounding the problem is that people are starting to put mid/top as their secondary instead of support just to get a shot at their main.

I tend to agree.

I used to be 1ry Jungle, 2ry Support but I would get support 9 times out of 10 (WTF?) so I was forced to do Jungle/Bot(ADC) instead. The system is completely broken.

I don't mind playing support 30ish % of the time which is why it was my secondary, but my secondary should never overtake my primary especially not at a rate of almost 90%.

LF Annie2/4/2016, 7:15:27 PM8 votes

tbh, support secondary will forever have a high rate of getting taken because support is the least liked/played role. there isnt much they can do about it w/o increasing q times across the board.

dr zoidberg esq2/6/2016, 4:37:51 PM5 votes

Yep, seems like the problem will only get worse until Riot addresses it. People who play support secondary are starting to pick other roles as secondary so they aren't stuck with support 90% of the time, which just exacerbates the problem.

Support is the one everyone gets with fill secondary because it is the least popular reward. Riot doesn't treat supports properly, mages take their items and abuse them then leave them with trash.

And the most important thing is, the main reason no one plays supports despite them being actually mechanically challenging and fun a lot of the time, is the community. This community very specifically treats supports like trash and there's NOTHING we can do to demand that respect. I'm a healer when I play MMOs, I'm used to disrespect. However, I'm also used to being able to, without breaking rules or risking the game, leave my carry to die to demand respect. In MMOs, I'd often stop healing carries the minute they stopped respecting me, then proceed to leave them on the floor for the rest of the dungeon, or at least the rest of the boss. If you don't respect me, you don't get to have fun. I miss being able to have that power, and that power is what made me one of the most respected and looked up to (and feared) healers in the MMOs I play.

Fix the community, support suddenly will rise in popularity. They are the entire reason bot lane progresses past early game most of the time, and they can carry, HARD.

Im jungle main, supp 2nd and i gave up picking supp so i chose mid even tho i suck at it just to be able to jungle. I had 90%+ play rate in jungle in s4 and s5 and i wouldnt even hit 50% if i keep going with supp (still not satisfied of ammount of mids i get).

But keep in mind that its not just about supp, its about 2nd role in general, right now matchmaker fills spots depending of demand or tries to 50/50 both of your roles, and its still a fail design.

Primiary role is primiary, most of the player base main only one role and forcing people to play 2 its not healthy way to make game any funnier.

It is clear that people do not want to play support as much as the other roles. I have played 116 games in ranked this season. Of those 116 I have only gotten jungle 10 times. That is .09% of the time. And to be honest (I can't remember exactly) I think for a few of those jungle games I actually chose jungle as my primary. http://www.lolking.net/summoner/na/41337515#ranked-stats It was frustrating because there is no continuity in silver right now. You could have season 5 bronzes, silvers, plats, and even a few diamonds on your team or the opposing team. And don't tell me about logic because with random generators it does not balance out that I would necessarily have as many good players as bad players. Support is as difficult a role as any other role but one cannot necessarily carry as well as a heavy damage output champion. I have since switched over to normals to cool off for a while and practice mid and jungle. These games, however, take noticeably longer to queue for as more people want these roles. With supp as my primary and jungle as my secondary it usually took around 30 seconds or less to find a match. With the combination of mid and jungle as my primary and secondary roles it takes around 2-5 minutes to find a match. I doubt anything will be done, but maybe the support role could carry a larger IP bonus or just be reworked into something that is more enjoyable than sometimes standing and watching your adc farm. Don't get me wrong, supports can make huge plays and they come in handy as much as any other role, but the role itself (at least for me) is lacking in the excitement level that the other roles bring.

Im a jg/sup main. I put jg first and sup second. In my placements I was support eight times and jungle twice.................................

Nogrim2/5/2016, 4:08:25 AM2 votes

the only way to fix this is to fix all the supports being a boring shitty experience.

Dadosa2/5/2016, 4:04:49 AM2 votes

Please for the love of god fix this. I've gotten to play my main role 4 times in my last 25+ games. (I've counted 26 games so far but I only started counting after I noticing how ridiculous this was). I'll take a 5 minutes queue over an instantaneous support slot.

Please give me the option to pick only one role, or better yet just completely roll back dynamic queue...

Vulpes72/24/2016, 3:18:18 PM1 votes

1ry Bot, 2ry Supp x10 times = 10 supp and 0 Bot. I have to select 1ry bot and 2ry mid for playing my role.

hubbzy3/11/2016, 11:57:38 AM1 votes

You are never going to fix this issue if the community does not want to play support. If you go mid first (which 80% of the people want to play) and support second (which 1% of the people want to play) then ofcourse you will get 100% or 90% your second pick. Its goddamn logical.

The only reason they can fix this is when you can only pick one role but then you will be waiting on a sup for ages and will have one hour queue times.

As a support main ( I enjoy the way the role plays the most, I enjoy being the play maker and the "shot caller" ) I say this is an issue with people not wanting to play sup instead of a Riot issue.

It is the same as the queue's in World of Warcraft. Healers / tanks get instant queue's and dps waits for 10/20/30 min.

Its a community problem, not a Riot one.

Elderwar3/14/2016, 7:38:44 PM1 votes

I am still having the same problem.

My first scenario is I main support, secondary bot (ADC). I was getting support 100% of the time.

My second was i wan't to increase my games as bot(ADC), primary set to ADC, secondary support. Still get support 100% of the time.

If you select fill you get support about 80% of the time but get put into roles you didn't want to play at the time, doesn't fix my problem.

We don't need more support players. we need to make things fair for the people who do play support.

"Why should I even play "solo queue" anymore? Okay the sheer terror inflicted by the queue system on high ELO for the mere hours it was up needs to be addressed. Pro players are mocking dynamic queue system on twitter [New Champ Select] The enemy team should not be able to see my declared champion when it becomes my turn to pick. The new champ select is great, it's just missing the "Fill except X role" SUGGESTION: New Champ Select is live, rito knows who's playing what role. Pls automatically set the scoreboard in game to correspond with it. Dynamic Queue is taking achievement feeling from Ranked Games and does not measure skill of a player correctly."

MAYBE adjust ip rates for those playing support. Or make a system that looks and adjusts ip rates based off of the number of people playing the given roles. example

percent of players going through dynamic top - 40% mid - 20% jungle 20% bot - 10% support - 10%

2.312 = IP a minute per win

*** NEW EQUATION*** 2.312 * 1.2 - (% of people que in role)

adjusted ip based off volume of players in the role top - 80% mid - 100% jungle - 100% bot - 110% sup- 110%

*** SAME AMOUNT OF TOTAL IP IS STILL BEING DISTRIBUTED***

Or a more dramatic equation

top - 60% mid - 100% jungle - 100% bot - 120% sup- 120%

NOTE these are all merely examples and not actual statistics

I have only once, since the update was released, ever got my primary over my secondary when I choose Support/Fill as my secondary. I main support but I love other roles too. I have lately decided to not play support at all until this problem is fixed. Not as secondary nor as fill. Would be nice if I didn't have to resort to this but, there you are.

Berten3/22/2016, 5:54:03 PM1 votes

I agree. I queued up with 4 friends 20 times this season(something near that). Not a single time i experienced that me or my friends is getting put together with someone there want to play support. why cant u queue up without support as 4? doesnt really make seen cuz as the system is right now if u put fill/support (even as secondary). You are gonna get support.Amumu I even enjoy playing support but im silver 2 so i cant queue up as support and be sure that i get to play with a good adc. My overall feeling is that Dynamic queue is has many good thing and bad thing. Good: Looks way cooler its better that u get a role u want insteed of pick order. and be apply to play full team is nice. Bad: The secondary role instant support when u pick fill/support is annoying. I Hope Riot will read not only my input but everyonce and make some changes to dynamic queue. Thanks

This is a bit annoying, i main mid, but i never get it since i pick fill as secondary role... Like NEVER

sugarfreemints4/14/2016, 11:25:41 PM1 votes

I agree too, so far, it is 100% for me,

TheCrudeDude5/26/2016, 9:45:38 PM1 votes

Protest. Don't play support anymore till Riot fixes the problem. Thats what Im doing. No more support! No more Support! No more Support!

Athenes Lulu5/26/2016, 9:47:09 PM1 votes

Or, take it this way. Can Riot please address the new draft pick issue of primary/secondary roles having no real priorities, or at least not call them "primary" or "secondary" to mislead people?

Restless Slumber2/4/2016, 6:40:28 PM1 votes

My friend who mains mid and puts support secondary has never gotten support out of the 10 games he has done it. Don't know what everyone is crying about. I put jungle as primary and top as secondary and get top more than jungle even though top is more popular.

rtbf2287340553/18/2017, 1:26:40 PM1 votes

I have even worse issue i get support in 9/10 games even when i dont put support in any role.

RamboDash152/4/2016, 11:34:47 PM1 votes

The issue was similar in teambuilder where you'd wait until a support was matched and then decided to stay if you didn't have a full team. I've had nights where I'll play 6 games with two other friends, (both top/jungle), while I go mid/support and get a 3/3 spilt. It may just be completely random but I'm biased with this issue as I enjoy support. I think that this is a better solution than last pick being forced into the support role most of the time.

DannyD2/5/2016, 1:30:44 AM1 votes

Jungle/support main I wish they would fix it but lets be honest here it is Riot we are talking about.

Koechophe2/5/2016, 6:35:38 AM1 votes

I'm a bard main, and I just played my placements. I can say, quite literally, that 9/10 if you pick support as primary, you get it. I think a lot of it has to do with the stigma that supports cant carry games, or that you can't climb as a support. This is very untrue. A well-played support is extremely important, effective, and will likely win you more games than any other role.

dark100dark1002/5/2016, 6:39:55 AM1 votes

I actually like this feature.

Iittala2/5/2016, 6:47:21 AM1 votes

Umm as a support primary and secondary fill.. I think in my last 20 games. Ive gotten not support 4 times. 20% of the time im getting not support as a support main.

My biggest thing Id love to see in ques is a "communication ranking" Hell Id love this over a "how good a player" rating. some teams as a support i can call a drag (usually a 90% success call rate i think). other times everyone looks at me like i`m crazy.

With these new shards and chests things coming out.. Id love to see it integrate into the honor system rather than the how many friend do you que with system. (im not patient enough for friends.) like earn a honor crest get a key (and like up honors to like top 20% of those honored instead of like top 5 %.) I`d love to be able to have more than 1 crest too. Then give more demanded roles such as support weighted honor giving and honor receiving. so a support gets a crest quicker. and can help give others crests quicker too.

Itd be a small riot investment.. Itd reduce wait times, itd help player behavior.. Only thing it wouldnt do for riot would be balance.

YossarianSensei2/5/2016, 7:53:32 AM1 votes

I've also removed fill as my secondary

A while ago I suggested instead of having to put your first and secondary choices every dam time you queue you just fill out a preferences card like Masteries and it'll statistically match you into the roles you assign yourself: e.g. 40% top, 30% bot, etc.

TotalJerk2/5/2016, 1:22:44 PM1 votes

My last two games have been support primary mid secondary and I got mid.

WarlockLaw2/5/2016, 1:30:54 PM1 votes

I just wish the if I put secondary fill I'd get the primary position more frequently than if I just put primary fill
