Flex Rank Confusion

Hello!

Prior to doing flex rank myself, I did a little bit of research to see what I was getting into. I read on a few discussions and blogs that it was nearly impossible to get a higher rank position in flex than in solo queue. A lot of players in higher elo's were being placed in significantly lower elo's or unfair match-ups such as bronze and silver players against diamond and plat players. In fact, I've only read that you cannot obtain a higher rank in flex than your rank in the previous season. Then to top it off, Plat I was the highest anyone could obtain after placements. (Most info from http://na.leagueoflegends.com/en/news/game-updates/competitive/how-rank-2017-season)

My confusion is how I was able to obtain a higher rank in flex than solo queue.

The rank I ended in Season 6 was Gold V. I basically powered through the silver division to gold for the rewards. Stopped there because I reached my goal. After the season ended, I did a few solo queue and obtained Gold IV. No big deal. Then I did solo flex, got a 6 W / 4 L and ended in Plat V.

I haven't changed my playstyle and I just changed my runes/mastery pages yesterday. I know a lot of people would NOT complain and trust me, I'm not but I'm also confused with how it calculated my MMR, placement, and so on because Gold IV and Plat V is a huge difference in MMR.

Thanks in advance, AzulTwilight

When did you do your flex games?

Flex MMR's (and for related reasons the criteria for placing into various divisions) were super messed up for the first week or two of flex, so I wouldn't put too much stock into placements/matchmaking/inferred MMRs from that period.

When the resets happen at the start of season 7, I expect pretty much everyone will end up in more 'expected' tiers/divisions. There might be a few outliers where for whatever reason their rank and MMR had a serious mismatch, but for the most part people will end up lower at the start of season 7 than they ended season 6 at.

The flex MMR system for placing players is/was heavily buggy. I stopped playing flex rank after being put into Silver II with having 8 wins out of 10. When they added the additional match for placing, I won that and it DROPPED me to Bronze II. Needless to say I am heavily salty,
