Someone who only plays support

My friends and I often queue as a party of 3, 4, or 5 In draft pick norms. One of my friends ONLY plays support. Every. Single. Game they have to play support no matter what. A couple days ago we forced him to go into the mid lane and he even built the support item and Chalice of Harmony then complained about us making him play a different role. In the support role he also only plays AP Casters and typically he will play the same champions over, and over, and over. No differing builds or playstyles. He always backs the second he gets enough gold to upgrade the support item and never upgrades it fully. Normally he will sell this item near the end of the game and have a full ap build along with always taking the Dark Harvest runes. He never plays tanks and when ever we try to get him to play a different role or champion he complains and makes up excuses like "They are not in the meta" or "I haven't found any other champions I like" It's just so frustrating because when he wants to play other champions he will ONLY play them in Co op vs AI or ARAM and he NEVER plays ranked. It's just so frustrating because no one ever gets to play support and ADC gets boring when you have a constant Morgana stealing your kills with dark harvest then bragging about how high their KDA is or how much gold they got from the support item. Especially because he gets S's so often. Yesterday he reached 30 full keys but he has 0 chests because he won't play anyone else. When you play an AP Caster with a mid lane build as support, You don't need to CS because you're job is to poke and setup kills against the enemy champions. So of course your damage to champions stat is going to be high because that's all you do. It's just so frustrating for our team and I would like to see other people's opinions on if this is fair for us, or if he should be allowed to play what he wants. Or even how we could get him to try something else.

The main point here is to have fun. If you aren't having fun playing games with him, don't play games with him. Aside from that, I'm not too sure the point of this post. This is something you guys need to discuss between the both of you (or who ever else is in your party) Our opinions on the matter really shouldn't do anything because at the end of the day you guys are playing together, not me or anyone else who replies to this post.

As a support player though you do seem to come off as showing a bunch of hatred towards that role. As if its bad to be a Support-only main. Your friend should have every right to play who they want, in what ever role they want. You don't get to determine what is fun for someone else. But at the same time, their fun, shouldn't counteract your fun. I mean if your friend is comfortable playing a certain champion/role, let them. You shouldn't care if he only wants to try out new champions in Vs Ai, or ARAM since that doesn't matter. If anything that's a good thing because he isn't those types of people who go in blind in a normal, or god forbid Rank match where you will be at a handicap.

All in all you need to change your perspective on the Role. It seems to me like you think Supports are only there to set up kills, when they can be much more than that. Obviously that is the case as we see a bunch of off meta Support champions. That's how it work. Supports can be just as good as any other role. They can get kills, as well as set them up. As long as you are using it to your advantage. Obviously there are some things your friend needs to change since like you say there are things he is obviously doing wrong, but that's probably because he is too comfortable. Like he should be taking advantage of the Sightstone Starter Support item, not selling it, unless he is using he Trinket right.

Okay? So don't play with him when you wanna play support. If he's not willing to bend once in a while, you don't owe it to him to invite him to play every time too. Problem solved.

Why is this even in Gameplay?

my friend group has 2 jg mains (me included) so we always have to compromise, just tell them that if no one can play support you guys will just find another person who plays other roles, be blunt if your not having fun with them because theres no point in playing with them if so

I was the EXACT same. Only support, Nami one-trick and refused to play anything else outside of ARAM/AI. I did this because Nami/Support in general became my comfort zone and after a while I just became too afraid to try something new. I believe your friend has the same problem.

What helped me out of this misery was one night where my friends and I made a premade group of 5 and all picked fill. I got to play every single role that night aside from support and I failed horribly. What helped me there was that I had another support main on my team who did not know how to play other lanes, just like me. We both failed together and it was okay. It can become really frustrating to play with people who know how to play everything when you know you’ll fail (at first). It’s important to keep telling your friend that that’s okay. I also noticed that I got less frustrated when my other support main friend was playing with us because I was not alone. We were practicing together after all.

Another important part in this story is my love for Katarina. When I first started playing League I immediately fell in love with her so that was another push for me. I just wanted to play her. So if your friend has a non support champion they like then motivate them to try him/her.

If your friend actually wants to play support though then be honest and tell them about your thoughts. I personally hated to be that guy who always took a certain role away. If they want to play other roles/champs encourage them and tell them it’s okay to be scared. If you’re all experienced try looking for somebody they can practice with.

In the end you can’t force your friend to play anything else. The only real things you can do are either play without them or keep trying to encourage them. Do not make them play other roles, make them want to play something else! :)

with item 3301 item 3303 this is what you are supposed to do. Go back early to finish your quest as soon as possible and you don´t finish your support item as it´s just a waste of gold which is better spent on other stats/items.

item 3302 is a different story
