Make supports be paired with a higher level teammates than them.
Supports depend on their teammates to carry a game. Supports cannot support if there is no good foundation.

Supports are the unsung heroes and can easily carry a game. Most people don't realize how much vision is worth or the setup/disengage/initiation that a good support can provide. Just because they don't have a high KDA doesn't mean they can't carry.

Maybe then Support would become a more popular role, lol.
I've played in sup from silver to high gold with people who are totally incompetent. You just need to be aware how much you actually do for the team, communication is huge. Being able to roam and place deep wards early is huge as well you can carry from any position even support. I am not saying you have to build AP shotgun Sona to carry but you need to pick supports who can aid the team in a variety of ways. Thresh is good, Zyra is good, Brand is good, Karma is good. Putting a bronze support in a silver game wouldn't help anyone, in fact it would bring everything down.
I tried queuing as support a month or two ago to practice it.
I've not been matched with that many Silver, Gold or pre-30 players in years. Considering I usually play with Platinum and Diamond players, I just dodged the lobbies to save myself the frustration.
Funnily enough, I would receive teammates of the appropriate rankings whenever I was autofilled into support rather than queuing for it.
