[RANT] Stop losing on Difficult Champions while hating Simpler Champions

Have you ever heard this before:

LeeSin (2/5/1): Jax is such a braindead champ. LUL Jax (5/1/3): At least I'm doing well. You failed two flash kicks. Why are you playing Lee? LeeSin (2/5/1): "At least I'm doing well" YOU ARE PLAYING JAX HAHA. I'm not going to play easy champions Jax (5/1/3): Why not? You mess up on Lee Sin while Jax is harder to mess up on LeeSin (2/5/1): I'm Dia 3 on my main, I can play Lee Sin. My team is just so bad. No wonder you are hard stuck, LUL

And then the Jax wins the game with superior scaling and less room to make mistakes.

Or how about the:

Riven (0/3/0): Oh, you gotta 2v1 me to kill me huh?

I don't think I have to say any more about that situation.

League of Legends is not a game about playing the hardest champions ever and ONLY fighting 5v5 in an ultimate standoff to protect one's own honor. No.

If you are not high elo/not mechanically skilled AND have high ping (50+, relative to lee sin for example) then don't play mechanically difficult champions and hate simpler champions

You either:

  1. Play a champion because you like them (not good for ranked mode)

  2. Play a simple champion because you want to make less mistakes on them (good for ranked mode)

  3. Play a difficult champion because you are high skill and low ping

Platinum elo is not high enough to use Lee Sin to his full. There are better picks. Insulting simple champions like Jax, Soraka, and Amumu is pointless. I mean, obviously you shouldn't be toxic, but to even have anger towards them is unreasonable. There are ways to be skilled with mechanically unintensive champions. Maybe you shouldn't use your CC on the Ashe, but rather peel your own Caitlyn by using your CC on their Zed when they dive you? Not all mechanical skill has to be timing based, but rather a combination of timing and decision making.

Did you know? Jax can trigger two of his Sheen procs by activating and deactivating his counterstrike at a precise time.

If you want to climb low elo, then play reasonably simple champions

If you want to climb low elo? If you want to climb any elo. That a champion is easy to play does not necessarily mean it is easy to master. Mute anyone who criticizes you, especially if its born out of salt. I've seen tryndamere, trundle and yi players complain when i play Aatrox and Xin Zhao. Sure it is a stat check, but its not like there is NO mechanical play even if your champion is super simple.

If it helps you win and they didnt ban it, they only have themselves to blame. Mute and play. I'm currently in the mid elos (Diamond 3) and i see this kind of behaviour regularly. They're looking for an excuse to rescue their ego from the fact they lost to an "easy" champion.

I've lost to plenty Garens, for example. While it sure is frustrating that he's so powerful compared to how easy he is to play, he still fulfills a specific role for his team he has a distinct, unique playstyle no other champion offers. I have no right to complain just because i dislike the champion, unless he is actually overpowered - which he is not. He is strong, but he has counterplay and bad matchups.

Unlike some champions... Camille Leblanc Karma Morgana But that's a fight for another day. I dont want to call the wrath of the numerically superior mid laners on my head.

I actually don't buy into the easy/hard Champion thing. All of the "ultra-high-skillcap" (usually Assassin class) Champions are piss easy to play at a median level and walk circles around the "easier" Champions with ease. Yes, they have incredible depth where it relates to min-maxing and various intricacies that Garen and Annie don't have (usually because the "high-skillcap" Champions have mechanics that flatly don't belong in the game), but the median public skill level with high-skill Champions like Zed, Yasuo, Riven, Lee Sin, etc., is still through the roof. If a low-elo player plays a bot game as first time Zed and then queues for a PvP, he's going to perform way better than he should against his peers (even if he still loses) simply because he has access to more mechanics that the other Champions simply can't deal with.

Also, think about it. Garen and Annie don't have three Flashes in their kit, they don't have walljumps, and their kits obey a rigid game philosophy from long ago that newer Champions aren't shackled by. So who - at the end of the day - is harder to play in the live environment? I could argue that it's the "easy" Champions.

I agree with Original Poster.

I have seen so many times Lee Sins, Yasuo's, LeBlancs and Camille's played in silver that suck more than ones that are decent because they only know how to play the champ to about 20% of its potential. Silver/Gold Yasuo's never windwall, they ult at the WRONG times everytime and so on. But I HAVE seen decent ones. It's kind of a crap shoot. I get them on my team about as much as I see them on the other team.

Last night I played jung jax and there was an enemy Yas talking crap. He kept trying to windwall my leap. Much to his dismay, He would die after 2 W's while stunned.

So, TLDR.....I have a love/hate relationship. I hate them on my team, love them on the opponent side.

I had an enemy Nidalee jungle and Teemo top complain that my friend was playing Kayle top because of her ult and auto attacks. "I wish I could play point and click champions." , said the Nidalee, to which my friend replied, "Then do it duh." People have the choice to pick whatever they want and always find an excuse as to why they're losing lane instead of trying to learn to do better in the matchup for the next time.

Doesn't matter. People are going to play what they want no matter how much common logic gets preached to them and then whine and bitch they don't climb anyway. Never mind the reason is staring them back in the mirror.

The worst thing is when people criticize the quality of your climbing based on the champions you play.

"Oh look, you hit Diamond by abusing ASol, while I'm getting to Plat with one-tricking Lee Sin, who's hard to play."

You can play Azir, GP, Lee all you want and try to make flashy outplays and mechanics and all that shit. At the end of the day, you division will still be lower than mine, where I play Janna, Sivir and Maokai. Like it or not, I managed to get higher by playing these champions.

I hate this shit when ever the enemy picks thresh before me I usually go tahm kench. The entire game the enemy will be on my ass about how easy tahm is against thresh. No shit Sherlock I main thresh I pick tahm for a reason.

I totally agree with you. But suddenly, all of a sudden. You come across unreasonable lose streaks.

And your inner Teemo starts to think, "It's a waste of time to try to climb low elo.".

My friends don't want to learn simple champs like Garen, Lux, or Leona because "winning with easy champions is boring"

But then they spam the same champion for weeks and complain about how boring the game is. Like... Don't just play Zyra support for weeks on end??

Any champion lets you climb out of low elo...

It's not mechanics that get you out - it's game knowledge.

Wait, so if I do a full combo on malphite as riven, and he turns around, e's and auto's me, does more damage I should just sit there and go:

"Wow, dude. You're so skilled". Nah, I'mma be pissed that shit exists. He's out of position if all I have to do is Auto, Q, Auto, W, Auto and then E out. But he turns around and just E, autos and pulls off more damage than me, that shit's just outright cancer. I have no with low skill cap champs having work arounds. But most of them truly don't.

T4underbolt5/16/2018, 5:22:09 PM2 votes

In no freaking game a champion with simple kit and basically overloaded with training wheels should be more effective than a champion that has more complicated kit and a lot of flaws that have to be play around by a user of such champion. It is completely dumb that champions like malphite can be picked basically anywhere and do nothing to achieve great results. But considering all your champion pool is full of champs that require to just pick them in champ select to be usefull for a team I guess there is no surprize you want to defend them.

The question is why though? Riot is too stubborn and casual/noob friendly to actually balance tanks. They will let them be free laning phase and scaling champions forever cause in their world having champion with figher/assassin lvl of burst dmg being so tanky you need 5 people to stop him is completely fine and doesnt break any logic. So dont worry you can keep going freelo on malphite, sejuani (surprize our stun bot with 40% max hp dmg nuke is going to be buffed for no reason soon - good for your elo I guess) and all the other dumb tanks that can be played by people with negative IQ. There is no decision making in playing those champs. Its your call when to engage because any engage you choose to do is good and rewarding no matter how clunky and bad it is.

Hard to vote on this one, Soraka is easy ? REALLY ? Lets see you keep your ego in check, allowing every lane jumper to kill steal the enemy that you've reversed kited and knocked down enough to give you a fighting chance at getting maybe a kill or two during the game. Soraka has basically 2 lines of defense, either you develop her Star call (for snare) and reverse kite OR you develop her equinox for freezing in place, all the while working up and being prepared to heal team mates whom seem overly concerned with getting piles of kills, as if they have no real "team" in mind, its really all about them and getting a high kill score. Even in bot matches I've had losers whining about me messing up their creep score, which to my knowledge doesn't account for anything in a BOT match. Hey, do the math, 3 lanes, 5 champions, and you need kills to develop skills and get gold for purchases. If your a selfish loser that just is interested in personal fame and glory only, perhaps a team game isn't for you. I see it all the time as Soraka, L.O.L. is the ONE game I play where I don't play the hero and demand all the glory, I allow others to do that, but its hard when you have the childish stomp on in, feel like they are entitled to all the minion kills, steal champion kills, not to mention the many times they leave you in a hard position to fend for yourself just so they can run off to get a kill. It takes patience and a temperament to play Soraka well, and even if your a cleric god and save people time and time again, there is little thanks and staying alive isn't easy when RIOT has seen fit not to give her adequate ways to defend herself from champions designed to do damage. I can't count the number of champions that have a movement advantage, let alone to mention the many I can't outrun even while the champion is snared with Star call. Its not like there is a heap of glory or gold waiting over the horizon for assist kills either. To play Soraka well, imho, you need to grab minion kills measuredly to develop, but not too much from a decent champion you may be sharing the lane with. You need to decide if your just the 5th member of the team or if the team is going to use you for healing (which determines if you need to waste time developing heals since at the beginning you can't develop all skills), you run with the pack, keep the strongest champions healed, forewarn them when your out of mana and take your lack of deaths and the number of assist kills as your personal trophy. Now if you call that easy, well................................

Automated Riven5/16/2018, 4:13:24 PM1 votes

See, in my games people always complain that me on riven is playing a braindead champ.
