LP Penalty/Reward System Suggestion*
My suggestion revolves around the way individual players gain and lose LP during ranked games. Can a system be implemented where players are penalized less if they have great performances during a loss?
Sounds dumb, but hear me out; I'm sure EVERY SINGLE player ever has been in a game where they genuinely try to help their team achieve victory in any way they can, but are unable to. Whether it be by trying to carry, or supporting someone else, pinging map objectives, and communicating well but a teammate or two prevent you from winning. They insist on ramming their champion against an enemy champion, they were ganked one too many times and went afk, or they simply decided to feed because they were autfilled or are having a bad day irl.
Why should an honest player who performs to the best of his ability lose a substantial amount of LP? Why should an honest player who managed to have a great game lose the same amount of LP as other players that gave up or were toxic?
I suggest that Riot place an LP buffer on players with great performances so that they lose much less LP than they normally would. Riot can do this by using KDA coefficient and their current letter grade performance rating system and if a player on a losing team meets the minimum criteria of a great performance then maybe they can lose half the LP? Instead of losing 20LP or 18LP, they can lose 10LP or 9LP, given if that player had performed that well on a team with less toxic players it would've resulted in a victory. Note, that this is simply to encourage players who are trying to CLIMB to try their best under any circumstances and while riot already has some measures in place they are not always effective. I'm sure no measure that would be implemented would ever eliminate all the people with negative attitudes but I feel like any tweak that can be made to minimize their impact on a competitive game is a change that should be considered.
By KDA coefficient I simply mean that, since certain roles lend themselves towards either better or worse KDA based on the niche they fulfill on their team, RIOT can come up with some sort of KDA coefficient, much like they probably use for their letter grade rating system.
I'd love to hear what everyone else thinks, or maybe someone has a tweak to make the suggestion better. I'm not sure if this idea has been thrown around before, but in terms of me communicating it, it is still very raw in my mind and I'm quickly typing it out in between some games/hw so I'm sure the idea itself still has room for improvement.
