New Taric's stun hitbox is retarded

kangaroooo··26 votes·8,466 views

Am I the only person that's noticed just how off taric's new stun hitbox is? It goes so much further than it says it will, and feels a lot wider too. Anybody else have this?

EDIT: Not so much about how wide the hitbox is main problem seems to be length. Wideness is more based on character models IMO.

I think the main issue is the indicator does not have an "End of Range Line". Basically, his E's range is outlined by two lines to show it's width, but it never accurately shows where it ends. Plus, while you can kind of see where the two width lines end on a still image, in-game it is harder to see since the lines somewhat fade a little near the end and it's much harder to see such smallish details in combat. People like being able to see a distinct "THIS IS THE AOE" indicator.

This. I couldn't agree more with this. The main problem that I've come across is basically you think you're out of range but the end of it goes a lot further than is intuitive. Make it a more obvious particle effect like Jinx's Zap. The wideness aspect of it that I've noticed is probably just character models and not a problem with the skillshot itself.

Jinxs zap does the same thing. All skillshots never quite line up correctly.

lines fading near the end you say? looks at enemy jhin ult thats not a problem anywhere else in the game is it?

just something people have to get used too his stun hitbox is fine imho i got 0 problems dodging it

When you first see the cast range of the stun, (as Taric) you'll see that there is a very small triangle at the end that still stuns. The problem is that the triangle is not shown to anyone but Taric when he hovers over his E.

I think it is just right. Since it is a skillshot, being wide isn't necessarily a bad thing, especially with how short it is. You have to be straight up in their face to use it. Maybe you could give it the Xerath treatment where he slows down while casting it. If you did that, though, I would suggest making it slightly longer.

Edit: Don't get too worked up and change a bunch. People who complain are just those who aren't used to the new kit yet.

kangaroooo1 votes

It's not the wideness that is the main issue, more just the length of it is very misleading. It goes further than you'd think based on the particle effect.

BADxW0LF1 votes

A lot of abilities do. Xerath's Q, Blitzcrank and Thresh pulls. It's not just him.

Not if you're playing as Taric rather than against him; then it goes less far than you'd think based on the particle effect.

Solidair32 votes

I don't know about wideness, but it's length is certainly misleading. It's kinda the same thing that xerath's Q suffers from. it seems to extend beyond it's indicated max range.

I think either shortening it to fit its visual hitbox or just fixing the indicator would be good fixes.

I personally have not had any issues. I have a hard time hitting people with the very tip of its range indicator. Seems fine to me.

Thanks for actually looking into this issue by the way. Don't usually get Riot responses to these <3

The indicator seems okay. IMO the particle of the stun is very very indistinct and doesn't fill the affected area. AKA it looks like no particle hit you, but you are stunned. That feels bad.

Goosetard2 votes

Someone else pointed out jhin's fantastically bad end-of-range indicator, but something else that always makes me go "wait wut" is Lux's ult hitbox. The way the spell is animated to be "above the ground" makes it really hard to see if it's going to hit you based on the parallax of your camera position relative to the ult. Something like lines-on-ground would do wonders along with the current animation.

While not about Taric specifically, are you guys ever going to clean up indicators and particles to make them match the hitboxes? Obviously, width is hard/impossible to do because things would be wide to the point of looking silly. However, there is no reason that the hitbox of an ability should extend beyond the particle of the ability (or vice versa), and there is no reason that the particle of the ability should extend beyond the cast indicator.

Dreampod1 votes

The problem with 'cleaning up' particles that way is it often results in the opposite problem where you end up with abilities that look like they hit but actually didn't. There is a real challenge between making particles that convey game effect properly and particles that look good because an particles with an abrupt end looks terrible but tapering particles don't look like they cover the full hitbox.

I do feel like I get hit with the tip of the stun quite a bit when I thought I had gotten out of the way.

Seems off to me. Sometimes I'm hit when it's clearly not in the targeted range.

The visual hitbox is about perfect IMO, it just often hits things it clearly should have missed.

I only have a problem with it when paired with someone like a Lucian or Ezreal, where they use their mobility spells to guarantee the stun to always hit. A good way to balance this might be to do what you did with Darius so he can no longer flash q cause the channel time resets. The stun hit boxes when he links with an ally are also annoying to play against because most of the time, it feels almost impossible to dodge a stun shaped like a narrow V. Also, i feel like his ult is too strong for what you were intending because instead of it being extremely situational like Bard's ult, it's always useful.

He can be really hard to get onto people with. I hope if you reduce his stun range, you give him some power elsewhere to compensate.

His heal seems very weak and could use beefing up.

My opinion:

http://champion.gg/champion/Taric/Support

22% playrate with 51% winrate. I haven't logged in at all this patch (I hate invulnerability - and that's not even the worst part of his kit).

2018 here, Lucian still can't dash (E) Taric's stun properly.

I've gotten stunned while Being behind a taric before

Teralisan1 votes

...he CAN aim behind him and if his ADC was behind him he could have aimed in front and the duplication would get you

Spicy Rice1 votes

As in i was right behind him, in the opposite direction he aimed, and he was a solo laner

Shadow Gilgamesh3 votes

I haven't had much trouble with is being longer than it's supposed to be. But it definitely has width issues and for some reason extends a short ways behind Taric, which it's super not supposed to

Best Ekko NA2 votes

Yea his animation doesn't match the radius of his actual hit box for some reason. It can be very misleading when you are playing against him. Sometimes you think you are out of range and it hits you, sometimes when you are standing right next to him you think it will hit you and then it doesn't. It gets pretty annoying lol

Darkslayer852 votes

Hey.... It used to be point and click.

KyroRayne2 votes

Haven't you noticed that this is for EVERY ability that is ranged. The visual is always slightly smaller than the actual hitbox. Look at blitz hooks, Thresh hooks, Naut hooks, Xerath everything, Annie W and R, Viktor E and R, Kha'zix W, Amumu W and E, Sunfire Cape, etc.

This is normal. Also, Taric's visual shifts colors which makes you think that you escaped being stunned, but your hitbox was still in his.

Grindy4082 votes

I don't see a problem with it, though perhaps at the end part there may be some lack of clarity, but I haven't been paying too much attention to have a sure opinion. Illoai's tentacles on the other hand....

BADxW0LF2 votes

I think because his kit is still new, calling stuff like this out is unnecessary because people are still not used to his kit. Whenever any new champ comes out, everybody complains because they don't know how to play against it or it's specific ranges. Just be glad it isn't point and click still.

Fear Popo2 votes

I haven't noticed it being any different from other skill shots in terms of it's forgiveness. I find it pretty damn hard to hit in a 1v1 lane, but that's just me learning him. Great rework by the way, I love it. :)

I think it's fine, personally. It's pretty well telegraphed and as far as I can tell, the visuals are accurate.

Taric's basically an anti-ad god, of course he'd destroy you.

honestly yes, I thought they made it so he couldn't top lane

Never assume a lane is easy until you actually see what your opponent is capable of. This just a blatant case of you not respecting the enemy laner. There's a jungle Teemo one-trick in Challenger.

No, they made it so hes a tank/support. Thats mostly what top is now. He got remade so he could get out of just being a bot stunmachine.

Bârd5 votes

That is not unique to new Taric.

Old Taric had a ball 1v1ing Rivens, Lucians, Ezreals, etc.

Anyone who wasn't known specifically for shredding tanks, Taric could fight.

New Taric, if anything, does it WORSE because his heal got gutted and his passive CDR got hit.

Duke Anax1 votes

He does have more bonus armor though, as well as the shield, which is better than his old heal in some combat situation.

His passive didn't get hit that much, especially in lane he still got the same 2 second cooldown per ability used and I think his base cooldown have been shortened slightly as well.

forresto1 votes

to be more specific: he has a shield and a heal at the same time, meaning he can block twice as much damage overall. he also thrives in battle since he gets the 5 second cdr on his heal recharge for every passive hit. that means that every spell rotation of e-w-q gives him 2 full charges.
