The botting accounts situation at low levels is appalling, especially for new players.

(I believe this belongs in gameplay)

I've been trying to get a few friends into the game, and in both Intermediate bots (where they test out champs) and in Howling Abyss (Rift less so), we're almost Garen_ teed_ to have bot accounts in our match. I made a new account just so I could play along side one group of friends without ruining the mmr of everyone's accounts (I'm pretty bad at the game anyway so there haven't really been stomps against other players), and to see how levelling up goes these days (in terms of runes and champ unlocks etc). Now, it's one thing to have to learn a new champ, but it's another to have to fight 3v5 when you're still learning mechanics.

This is seriously impacting the new-player experience in a very negative way.

But how to distinguish a bot from just a new player who's having a hard time? Other than the fact that a bot will never respond in chat to you (which really proves nothing to be fair), here's what we've found.

The bots are characterized by:

  • Their naming convention(A normal first name with a series of characters either side) E.g. JohnQwErtY (not a real summoner name dw, made up example).
  • Their build will typically consist of them buying boots first, then finishing them (like merc's item 3111 or sorc item 3020 boots) before buying recommended items.
  • They will typically send two accounts midlane on rift and feed the entire game.
  • Eventually, if the game goes on for long enough, they will start a surrender vote at approximately 25 mins.

This problem is seriously hurting our urge to play. It's just boring not being able to play against players when that's what you queue up for. ARAM is especially bad, most of our games have had the majority of players be bot accounts. It's pretty hard to learn how to fight real people against bots :/

I'm sure riot is doing what they can, but I never realised the extent of the issue until trying to get new people into the game.

I just hope there's a solution coming soon. item 3070 summoner 3 [zombie-nunu-bummed]

p.s. Just to clarify, I play on OCE, so I don't know if this is as big of an issue in other regions (wouldn't surprise me if this is a bigger deal in OCE though).

This is a real problem, indeed. I have a low account to play with my beginners friends and my kids. Our experience is almost always ruined by people botting and this is boring for players who want to discover the game or learn game mechanics for real... The thing is that I already experienced a coop vs Ia with: 1 beginner with me to lean, 1 botting and 2 hard smurfs who hard flamed (on a COOP) cause the beginner was doing some mistakes. I understand why some beginners uninstall directly. This is disgusting

Bots are a problem that could be dealt with WAAAY better than riot does currently. Riot just doesnt care about things that ruin the game, only people that swear. It also hurts other lanes,eg. when i was a jungler the MF bot randomly shot at my buff camp and stole it when i needed it then she ulted a tower later on. Pls rito feeders, afk'ers, leavers, bots and smurfs can all ruin normal play and we need better systems.

the problem is when there will be "auto buy" for newbie as they annouced... Bot will be lesser recognizable...

If reported... botting can lead to some perma ban (i saw a bunch of reported bot from me banned definitly... leaving a comment "botting" and puting the dot third party program. riot do care... but they really lacks control on that... botting is a problem in every game online.

Another things... as bots are bad, even worst than a true newbie that didnt played tutorial... they dont win... so from game to game... they just plays "together" bot vs bot... once they reach this state... no one will report them...

And after that... accounts are sold... to some crappy player most of the time that will go to ranked... and suddenly stats on account changes... Characters used too... I bet there some algorythm that can solve this...

I went in one to try out Kassadin for the first time about a month ago. Had 4 bots in it that fed like nothing you've ever seen. If I wanted to 1v5 against intermediate bots I'd just make a custom.

One aram game I played ages ago There was 5 bots on the enemy team and 4 on my team. I was the only real person

Queue with a team of 5 that way you’re guaranteed to not have any

Raise your mmr and you’ll never see them again
