I've been playing League for 5 years and I'm still horrible

Hey.. this is my first time posting to the League forums, however this post is a bit long overdue.

I've been playing League since the start of Season 3, and throughout this span, I've mainly played Mid and Top. I used to play a plethora of champions in normals, but whenever I play ranked the top champs I found myself playing for Mid and Top combined were Zed, Twisted Fate, Ahri, Shen, and Riven, and towards the end of Season 7 and before the upcoming Season 8, I've mainly focused on these champs and dropped any other unnecessary champ for each role.

For some time, I've been losing faith in myself as a League player, as my normal game streaks have been extremely inconsistent (every win is followed by a loss in normals, and currently have 20 more losses than wins) and in ranked, despite my usual good games in normals, I always end up being a bit of a feeder on my team even despite my efforts to maintain control and stay safe.

It's seriously draining me mentally, as it's been a while since the first time I've sat down with a keyboard and mouse and played this game, however despite all the time I've spent on this game, I still find myself losing out to a majority of Silver I players. I also can't remember the last time I've actually been on a winning streak.

I just don't know what I'm doing wrong guys. So much time spent and I'm still getting destroyed by people within my elo. I'm incapable of carrying my teams and I'm often a feeder myself.

I just don't know, it's like no matter what, I'm set to stay in Silver and only decay more and more. I've watched many guides, seen many stories of people struggling to carry their "bad teammates", however my own struggles consist of not being a "bad teammate", but... Idk it's just so pointless now.

Another thing to probably note is that back then (season 4ish) I would inconsistently play ranked; finish placements, just play normals for weeks after, and play only when I'm at risk of inactivity. Now I've been pushing myself to consistently play, however my recent horrible performances are making me question even playing ranked, and I really wanna enjoy League competitively, however I just seem incapable of advancing my current standpoint.

It isn't just you. You can improve your chances of winning SLIGHTLY by playing the champions you're best with, dodging queues with obvious trolls, and muting anyone the instant they start insulting an ally, you included.

You can ward areas near you while farming and commit to fights that you are confident you can finish without the help of allies. You can abandon towers and dragons you know you cannot secure or protect.

But, in the end, you are subject to the whims of RNGesus when it comes to matchmaking. You will have days when you have win streaks, days when you have loss streaks, games in which you carry, and games in which you are carried.

Individual effort just isn't enough. The system works against us all. It might feel like it's you, but it isn't. It affects us all. Those who are gold and higher are the lucky few who managed a lucky streak unlike any you've ever before seen. I've heard gold players, on average, are as bad if not worse than your average silver player.

It's only plat and higher players who actually have any slight noticeable skill at the game. And if you think Challengers are good then you are sadly mistaken. Challengers are shit when compared to the players on the Pro circuit.

At the end of the day, we all suck at the game and having a duo partner isn't going to improve your chances either.

I've seen how duos play. They are generally just as toxic, if not more toxic, than the average player. Their attitudes toward anyone outside their partnership stinks and I've reported my fair share of duos who fed intentionally, insulted my allies, and went afk, thinking that their friendship somehow guards them against any possible punishments for their behavior.

All you can do is try and hope for the best. Rest in between games if you lost one too many or won so many that you feel yourself growing cocky, lazy, and sloppy. But you will win some and you will lose some. YOur win rate will rise above 50% and, if your MMR holds steady, you MIGHT climb the ladder.

League is a game. Riot wants us all to have an equal shot of winning and wants us all to have fun. But losing isn't fun. Only winning is fun. And so, many of us become addicted to that sensation of winning, however brief it is, and want more. And each time we lose, we think to ourselves "next time for sure I'll win". Or, if on a win streak, we think to ourselves, "let's keep a good thing going".

But, again, the system works against us to ensure that our opponents have just as good a chance of enjoying a moment of success that we do.

And that's what league is.

5 winners and 5 losers. And you're 1 of 10. Tte odds are not in your favor and never will be because it's not fair to others if the system suddenly started granting preferential treatment to a select number of players.
